What kind of avg could Liam Duggan avg for a season and is he a keeper type
88-94 and I think he will struggle to get close to a 100 avg.

Dependent on your classification and whether you would be content with the return.

I would rather pay the extra $100,000 for the likes of Short, Daniel, Stewart, Ridley, etc. Another factor to consider is whether you would prefer him in your final side over those aforementioned, along with Docherty, Ryan, Whitfield and Lloyd.

(Good) backman with good roles are gonna see an average spike I reckon. If you go hard and nail the right ones I think you can afford to go cheaper in the mids and fwd. Not much value down back worth chasing that I can see

Laird's in 49% of teams now, that's more than Neale, Lloyd, Danger, Gawn etc. Kinda makes me wonder whether I should reconsider him as an automatic selection.
That's where my heads at. If the defenders scores lift and Adelaide are terrible, Laird at say 105+ in the midfield might be on more of a level playing field this season with many other defenders.
Goes against past logic, as we usually crave def/fwds who will play midfield. Strange times.

Still a solid pick but I am weighing him up vs equal price point players in the midfield as he is my current M5.

I have to declare that Laird is one of my favourite players to watch so I might have rose coloured glasses on but I can't see why he's not a top mid let alone defender. Adelaide's results won't affect him because he can tackle as well as gather.

Absolutely torn between starting short or Daniel
I like balancing my premos from each team
With Daniel I’m dogs heavy with 3
With short I’m 2 dogs and 2 tigers

Who averages more?

Many with Grawndy will have 4 premium def, 2 cashcows and two rookies. just need to reduce a premium elsewhere. Should not be driving the ruck rook equation.
Yeah might need to change my structure to do something similar I think, I hope it doesn't mean I have to settle on Dow though.

Makes him more of a lock imo. Minimal risk to pick him and if he does continue on from his late 2020 midfield form, you'll be in the minority that are hurt by not having him.

I feel like these games are really easy to over complicate and try to get too cute and it's typically what hurts more often than not. The winners usually have a pretty stock standard team for the most part and just trade well/get lucky.

I feel like the backs/rucks are rather difficult to nail. 2 premium rucks means I'm going cheap in the backline which doesn't look great (i've only been looking at 3 premiums and the rest rookies). Giving up a ruck means I can bring in another defender however I see appeal in both Gawn and Grundy so it's difficult to select one over the other and then it's also difficult to select Meeks v Hunter too (Flynn the first lock for me).
This is one of the hardest thing for a DT player to accept with SC, that the backs are a full tier above and much more consistent because everything they do has value.

I'm the total opposite, I think the defender premiums are incredibly easy, to the point where even though I like a fair few value plays it's just hard to bother risking them.

Honestly just doesn't feel like you can go wrong with Laird, Daniel, Stewart and Ridley. I still think Short, Mills and Crisp are also strong plays.

Backs seem really safe to me as I've said above. I do think there is a lot of value though also in play. Clark, Doch, Williams, Duggan, Houston, Rich, Dawson and Bowes to me could all easily also push the high 90s to 100 mark this year and make it a genuine 20 person premium group. I think it's going to be a real case of throw a blanket over everyone this year and that the only guys who throw spanners in the work is anyone who can outpace the others. I think Lloyd, Laird and Ridley have the best case of doing that. Docherty is probably next on my list in that he's genuinely done it before but I think times have changed a bit there.

The real question is whether chasing the value and the extra risk is really worth it, can make a case for an extra 5 points for the group I mentioned above which definitely makes them good enough starting picks. Houston and Doch are the two I keep being drawn to, Houston didn't take to the midfield role and didn't deal well with being flipped among positions but I think this year he'll have a pure rebounding role and he really suits the new rules, burn marks are strong here for me though. Doch also suits the new rules really well and despite the preseason the major issue of his knee is now in the 2 year basket which tends to be a big point.

Just as well the premiums feel great this year because I can't remember a rookie group this bad.

Agreed, it's far easier to add a couple more premiums in the backline in SC than it is in DT as the options are barer (the obvious miss is Lloyd who I just don't want to pay for at this point).

Rather than not liking the defender options in SC, it's more that I'm pretty happy with the rest of my sections. Have cut out a midpricer or two to bring in Ridley at the moment to give me four premiums which does look quite a bit better.

Currently contemplating 5 keepers and leaving a spot for Lloyd. D rookies are trash this year.

Except he averaged around 120 in the second half of last season, once he played mostly midfield.

Is there a concern that Ridley plays key position with Essendon's backline tall injuries? Who plays tall for them with Hurley and Stewart out?
Doubt it personally. Francis and Laverde clearly played it after Stewart's injury and are both as big as Ridley anyway and neither are as good on the intercept or close to as good with the ball. Would think if they want to go taller it will be Reid or, more likely, BZT that they go with. Really only Geelong, Port and Richmond that have a genuine mauler at FF these days and they only face Port of those in the first 10 rounds.

Hooker would be the break in case of emergency option also if Dixon is getting away from them but imagine Francis/Laverde grounding for Ridley over the top is the game plan. They do seem pretty committed to Hooker up forward from what I've seen and heard.

Anyone have thoughts on Aliir Aliir? He is in a potentially lucrative new intercepting defender role instead of ruck duties he had over at Sydney.
Unfortunately he is awkwardly priced and although he played well in the preseason, it was against Adelaide :(

Could be great, has always been a very good intercept player and attacking rebounder (why Horse hated him), can turn it over though so will be interesting to see how they balance him and how much intercept work they give him. The way Port plays is probably a slight issue, only teams like Sydney and Collingwood can support multiple 95+ guys with their stagnant and defensive styles and with Houston, DBJ, Burton, Hartlett and Jonas all taking a chunk it's a pretty popular pie to be chasing the big slice from!
