Can the sub rule also mess up future cashcows?

E.g. Lachie Jones comes on twice for 2x 30, inflating his score up even higher?
I'd say so.

But looking at it another way, you get to see a player in action in the real thing for more than a couple of games without a significant price impact.

EDIT: It would of course depend on when they were subbed on.

At least we aren't facing the prospect of picking a rookie on the ground and having him subbed off, which was always the issue with the old sub system.

Dow was ok in his first year and a half under Bolton (averaged 60 in is first year) as he was played as a mid. Teague took over and put the senior guys back in the middle. Dow was pushed to half forward and struggled.

He was picked in round 1 and 2 (effectively another round 1) last year so is obviously rated. A niggling knee injury meant he was never fit and he missed a chunk of games. Came back late in the year and was terrible because the 12-a-side practice matches for the 2's were a joke. Even Carlton supporters have feared we may have a bust on our hands at times. Greg Williams rates him from personal coaching but reckons he needs to play like a man, not a boy.

His strength is his burst away from stoppages which Carlton lack. If you think there will be less stoppages, then that may factor into any thinking. He looked very good against Essendon and ok against St. Kilda with a good role as you say. Even that 54 goes up a bit when you allow for the fact that the sides used extra players. The TOG management (on ground and even with regard to roles) is all over the place in the pre-season games, as evidenced by Cripps standing in the goal square picking his nose for half a game.

As a 4th year player, he should be a better pick than expensive first year rookies like Campbell, Bruyn, Powell etc. if for no other reason than his body will stand up to the rigours of full games week after week better.

Is he a better pick than the Impey, Daniher, Clark types? I honestly don't know. If there are enough 117K and 124K rookies that you are happy with, then the likes of Dow are where you can save some dollars.
RE: ..........Greg Williams rates him from personal coaching but reckons he needs to play like a man, not a boy.........
The reason Dow is not in my team is because I read, somewhere, that Dow is "looks afraid at hard ball gets". Greg William's comment that Dow needs to play like a man, not a boy, sort of confims that the inside mid role doesn't suit him. I don't know if he can/will improve in this area. If not, then he will be back playing fwd or out of the team, so too risky for me to select him..

If he doesn't make it as inside mid he won't make it. He is not a silky outside user and he is not a fulltime forward at AFL level.

He is not soft, it's almost like he thinks he has had to defer to the senior guys like Cripps and Curnow, rather than go himself. He has also lacked the fitness (and drive?) to get to enough contests. He really hasn't been fit since 2019 but has had an impressive preseason apparently.

They all progress at different rates. More observation is needed to reach a verdict on him - which we don't have unfortunately.

No because Lobb is out for 10 weeks and Darcy likely to play forward.
I've seen this mentioned about Darcy a couple of times now. Has JL or any of the other Freo coaching staff stated this is the case for Darcy this season?

I've always thought he was a ruck who might rest forward every now and then.

Diesel goes whack .It's not Dow's fault he was drafted so high, it was Carlton's error.

Yes they have, there's a reference to it in one of these threads.

Two rucks? Pearce? Freo assessing forward options
Fremantle could go into round one against Melbourne with two rucks.

In an interview on 6PR, executive general manager of football Peter Bell said Lobb’s knee injury would keep him out of action for approximately 10-12 weeks.

As well as potentially bringing in a debutant in Josh Treacy or swinging captain Nat Fyfe forward, Bell agreed with a suggestion that Alex Pearce could be used up front.

“It’s certainly something we’ve discussed and we’ve thrown up a few names, albeit it’s only 48 hours since Rory’s injury,” Bell told 6PR.

“The coaches would have been thinking about it and Alex is someone that we’ve spoken about.

“Clearly he’s a good defender, we’ll be looking at all the different options and talking to all the players.

“It’s pleasing that Griffin Logue’s not too far away and we know that Nathan (Fyfe) can play forward as well, but clearly he’s a very good midfielder too.

“We have a lot of options and haven’t settled on anything yet.”

If Sean Darcy (knee) is available for round one, Bell said that Fremantle could also go with two rucks rotating through the forward line.

“Sean will be really close to round one … that’s certainly one of the conversations (senior coach) Justin Longmuir and the coaches will be having about Sean’s capacity to play that tall forward role, which he’s done at times as a resting ruckman,” Bell said.

Thanks. Hadn't seen that.

The coaches having discussions around Darcy's capacity to play that tall forward role is hardly definitive though.

So many question marks on how that Freo forward line will function.

Yes nothing definitive, but with Lobb out I personally think they'll play Meek until Lobb comes back.
