I may be misunderstanding the rule, but I see it as quite negative for cash gen. A player who is fringe best 22 could punch out 70s, and then become the concussion sub to get a mini rest, in a horses for courses approach, or due to waning form. If he punches out a 15 because of low TOG, he’s basically shot for cash gen for 3 games, and that’s hard to recover from.
Personally I would like my rookies either playing a full game, or dropped altogether, unless they’re a very near term trade anyway with a highly negative BE (a fairly rare combo).

There's even some suggestion that given some rule where you have to serve the suspension in the competition that it was incurred, and the WAFL not starting til 2 April, that Treacy may not be available til round 5 of the AFL season

Josh Treacy’s potential Fremantle debut could be on hold until at least round five due to a technicality in the WAFL rules.
The rookie Dockers forward was offered a two-match striking suspension by the WAFL Match Review Panel for an incident which left Perth recruit Brady Grey concussed in Saturday’s pre-season clash in Mandurah.
But, according to rule 6.8.11, Treacy will have to serve the ban in the WAFL home-and-away season, which doesn’t still until a fortnight after the AFL.
Fremantle have until 3pm on Tuesday afternoon to appeal the suspension, but it will cost them another week if unsuccessful.
The club could also apply to the league for a special exemption for Treacy to serve the ban in Fremantle’s first two AFL matches, against Melbourne (at the MCG on Saturday) and GWS (at Optus Stadium on March 28), instead of waiting until the opening fortnight of Peel Thunder’s campaign.
Former West Coast swingman Beau Maister was another victim of this rule more than a decade ago, with a WAFL bye, Claremont bye and AFL split round setting his hopes of a top-flight return back several weeks after a two-game rough conduct ban.
“A person who is suspended or disqualified by the tribunal shall serve such suspension or disqualification in the grade in which the person participated immediately prior to such suspension or disqualification,” the rule states.
“If any person participates in another association whether affiliated or not, whilst still under suspension, that person’s original penalty will automatically be doubled.
“Unless otherwise specified by the WAFL tribunal in exceptional circumstances, where a person is suspended or disqualified by the tribunal, such suspension or disqualification shall apply to all Australian football competition matches.”
I think this really simplifies the situation at Freo for me. Meek will play and Darcy will support him if fit. That's it I reckon. Makes Meek almost a lock for mine.

Yep Meek's JS just went through the roof - he has pretty much a guaranteed 2-3 games to establish himself in the side and if he can be solid enough to get the Freo coaching panel feeling comfortable with using Darcy primarily forward then he (Meek) will probably stick for another 6-7 weeks at least I reckon.

TBH he's one of those guys I haven't seen much of so not qualified and shouldn't comment, but he is one of those guys that when I see play seems to shirk the hard contest and to me looks more worried about what's coming. It's all well and good to be quick and have a step but if you're always concious of being hit/hurt I imagine it makes it tough to take the next level in AFL football.

The ruck side of things at Fremantle has next nothing to do with Treacy. It’s whether they were going to play him as a target up forward with no Lobb. He’s an undersized ruck a it is. The ramifications of his suspension and its duration across the AFL season now more so relates to Meek and Darcy and whether both will play for an extended period of time, with the resting ruck being the forward target.
Agree this could happen. But the old sub rule was used tactically and almost guarenteed the 22nd player would play 1 quarter. We haven't got the details yet but it sounds like the 23rd player, and there is as much chance of a near full game or no game as there is 1 quarter. Could see cash being made when they might have otherwise missed out. Looping the 23rd player becomes russian roulette though.
Not really. I think it was Big Russ? Who said he saw the fear on Dows face when he was about to get crunched going for a hardball or something to that affect, in the game vs the Saints. That plus the comments I read on the bigfooty Carlton game thread about losing his man at the centre bounces. Greg Williams saying he is soft. Mate, these are the sort of things worth making a judgment call on as the eye test from multiple watchers/fans are usually a better indication then media build up imo. It's unusual for a guy to take 4 years to break into a team like Carlton (unless a ruck/Key fwd) if he is any good.

Anyone else planning to include Bruhn, especially if we are light on rookies?
There's a lot of dislike for him as a pick due to his role in the side, but he would seem to have far better job security than Brockman and Downie and being a highly rated midfielder as a junior I feel like he could gather more than the 11 disposals he did against Sydney. The goals are obviously going to regress but it's not out of the question for him to have a more complete games given the type of player he was as a junior. I also am a bit bamboozled as to how he only scored 63, that along with Daniher's practice game score have me very confused. He has barely played for two years, which is somewhat concerning, but also might indicate that he has untapped upside that was missed by recruiters. The coach came out with a pretty big wrap for what he'd shown in preseason and GWS historically don't allow their young players to debut with ease.
Some have said that the pressure forward role in the GWS side has always lead to poor scores. I think it's a bit simplistic to just say that because they've had a few other pressure forwards who have scored poorly that others will do the same, and I'm not sure he even has the same type of role in the side. When Butler moved to St Kilda he was not determined to score the same at St Kilda as Matt Parker because they were both pressure forwards in the same side and their scoring ended up being poles apart. Every player is different and will score differently, and I'm not convinced he's limited by the same skill set and role as a Matt Parker/Zac Langdon. Of course it's unrealistic to say he will score like Butler did, that's not my point, just that every player will score differently in that role or a similar role. He's not grown up as a goal scoring small forward either, so he should have an easier time finding the ball in the forward line than those recruited as small goal scoring forwards.
If he was 30k cheaper everyone would start him due to his job security, and whilst I don't like having to pay that extra money I feel like he has job security and more upside than people currently believe.
