Thoughts on Pavlich and Gunston becoming top ten forwards on average. Gunston averaged 82.5 during the regular season with sub affected scores of 18 and 73. With a finals average of 123 and getting rid of those games he averaged 92. Pavlich should bounce back to a comfortable 90-100 average. Yes or no? Thoughts on these two appreciated

Pavlich yes, should easily average 90 and most likely around 95-100. Gunston is a no for me as with Buddy gone he'll be copping much better defenders next year, and I don't see him performing anywhere near as well as last year because of it. I think he'll go at around the same this year as last.

I'd say yes to Gunston too. Assuming the hawks still dominate, can't see him averaging less than 90-95. 100 would be his absolute ceiling though.

It makes me wonder how Roughie will go this year as well.

Here's to hoping.

Rohan back in the running, says Bolton

SYDNEY Swans great Jude Bolton believes Gary Rohan will emerge and stamp himself as one of the most exciting players in the AFL in 2014.

Rohan returned to play five games in 2013 following the horrific broken leg he sustained in round four of the 2012 season.

He displayed his trademark speed in patches, but lacked the conditioning to impose himself on games.

It's a different story entering this year.

"Gary's a phenomenal talent. It was great to see him exposed to footy again last year. He's been around for a while, but he's really matured as a player," Bolton told AFL.com.au.

"Hopefully he can lock down a spot, because he's electrifying to watch."

With Rohan back in business, the Swans have a forward line the envy of every other club in the competition.

I have already got asked this somewhere in a link but if michael hurley plays as a defender, is he worth picking?

I'd ask any Essendon supporter, and I reckon they'd say, has HUGE potential, but he continues to fail to deliver.

Love Hurley's attack on the ball and definitely looks more suited down back. But not managing to play a full season in 4 years and only 16 games for each of the last 2 seasons, he's just too injury prone for serious consideration for me.

Agree, not worth the risk but as a defender it should protect his dodgy wrists so we might see a bit more consistency from him.

Anyone thought about going JRoo as a POD? Apparently training the house down (lol) and has lost weight in hope of playing CHF which could mean more consistency and less dependency on goals. Richmond also have that great draw as well.

Also from that article, this little interesting snippet -

Martin has flourished during the pre-season and a change of role could materialise. Martin has been a midfielder-forward but has spent time training with defenders.

Could he be 2014's Travis Cloke trade bait? Have a look at him in the upcoming games. As for me I am trying to find a forward that will play more in the midfield this year.

Thanks IDIG. Think this was the post to which you referred.

Wondered why the forward options seemed slim this year so went back through last year's top 40 forwards (ranking in brackets) by highest average. Don't have SC Gold so got question marks on some position changes so there may be a few amendments.

We lost the following players due to position changes:
Stevie J (1), Rockliff (2), Cox (3), Bartel (4=), A Walker (4=), Stokes (12), J Lewis (13), Nic Nat (14), Christensen (17), Ryder (20=), R Henderson (29), Dunn (38).

We've lost the top 5 players in forward line. Plus we've lost 8 from the top 15 of last year's forwards. So now we know why there are slim pickings!

Have listed below the available top 40 forwards (including their 2013 score) by their team in 2014 and according to bye round (to help with planning):

Round 8
Suns - none in top 40 but Dixon (13x90) available in 2014
Pies - Cloke (16), 21x95
Cats - Motlop (40), 21x82
Tigers - Dusty (9), 22x101
- Edwards (24), 8x89
- J Roo (30), 21x85
Crows - none but expect Dangerfield locked in 2014
North - Harvey (7), 16x104
- Petrie (8), 22x102

Round 9
Hawks - Roughead (11), 22x98
- Rioli (26), 13x88
- Hale (34), 21x83
- Gunston (35), 20x83
- Breust (37), 22x82
Blues - L Henderson (33), 22x83
Eagles - JJK (22), 21x90
- LeCras (32), 15x83
Dogs - none in top 40
Port - Westhoff (10), 21x98
- Monfries (20), 22x90
- Schulz (28), 22x85
- Gray (39), 18x82
GWS - none in top 40

Round 10
Bombers - Chappy (15), 6x95
Swans - Buddy (19), 19x90
- Tippett (23), 10x89
- Goodes? (31), 12x84
Saints - N Roo (6), 21x105
Dockers - Mayne (18), 21x92
- Walters? (24), 18x89
- Sylvia (27), 19x86
Lions - Zorko (36), 22x83
Dees - Dunn (38) no longer available

With Danger and Dusty being popular picks with round 8 bye and Buddy and Pav being popular picks with round 10 bye, seems to me that Hawks and Port have best options for players with round 9 bye. That is, if you're looking to balance your team across the bye rounds.

I currently have M Clark as my F3 but not very comfortable with him and would like to upgrade. Unfortunately can only afford a further $150k within my existing structure and don't really like the look of any players in the range up to $400k. Does anyone have some suggestions I could look at in that price range?

S.higgins 254k, L Hunter 284 k, j caddy 325k, t Hawkins 359k, d smith 377k, J Howe 391k. All mid price options. Best option maybe look down to a rookie when r1 teams named.

Thanks for the suggestion Epidemick. I'm not sure if any of these players fill me with confidence, but I'll research them a bit further and decide if they are viable options. Perhaps downgrading may be the best option(?)

Haha yeah I wouldn't feel too confident with him at F3 either :p

Can you find an extra 30-40k and get Pav? Clark for me would ideally be at F5 but possibly F4 depending on how the forward rookies look.

Of the list epidemick gave I don't hate Tomahawk tbh but I would probably go with Hunter if everything looks good for him in the preseason.

Mitch Clark is still very much touch and got for round 1 (refer to todays HS). Like IDIG said, I would be looking elsewhere than him for an F3.

The other day there was an article about jack riewoldt slimming down and being used in a new role. With the addition of Sean Hampson and that other richmond ruck/forward guy, jack might not get as much attention as he used to. If Jack is playing around the half forward line, there are very few defenders that can match him in the air and ground level after the other team has dealt with the other two taller richmond forwards. Will look nab cup for his "new role".

I like your thinking re Pav. I was hoping to get some quality at a cheaper price, but I'm not sure it exists. May need to just splash the cash and get the old champ in.
