Do you think Stephenson will be impacted by the returning Nth Mids ?
It's hard to tell to be honest, can make a case on both sides.
Pros
1. They should be more competitive, more ball in general is better, especially for a mostly outside guy like Stephenson but also the SC stays in play for longer periods meaning you're less susceptible to a bad quarter getting you trapped on the wrong side of the equation.
2. Only Dumont of those guys missing is really an outside player, Anderson and Cunnington both very inside. McDonald increases overall cheap touches for the side.
3. More targets for opponent attention ahead of him.
4. Should mean that the weaker players pushed out results in better players being up forward. Cunnington and Simpkin in particular are crafty forwards, much better players than the Taylor and Turner types currently occupying those spots.
Cons
1. More midfielders sharing the ball.
2. He's the best forward of the lot and could get pushed forward where he'd play a similar role to the Pies which cripples his consistency.
3. Some of his best work today was actually around the stoppages, pushing in on boundary contests and sweeping into defensive 50, imagine Cunnington goes back to the main man when back, especially given how Boak just kept bullying everyone.
It's a tough one as you'd probably be buying before that happens so effectively guessing, in that role today he should be able to push a 90+ average which at his price and, imo at least, should be enough given the forwards this year to be a great pick. Of course there's a reason he's the price he is and that's basically his level outside this role, though to be fair he does look fitter and more focused as well.
I think he's the kind of gamble you might look at if your hand was forced, if you say had Rowell and Danger, he's the type of value that could allow a big move on Rowell and perhaps a structuring towards a ruck move as well, not sure he's worth chasing from a strong position, if that makes sense?
Really liked his game though and have always rated the talent level he has.
