Neale - had debated whether he may get extra attention this year post a Brownlow. Hard O'Connor tag, Brisbane not prepared for it, with the other players giving frees away trying to support him and no umpire free kicks as it was at the Cattery.

Has that Bont feeling to him last year, where we thought Bont had lost his mojo, just turned out he played close to 7 of the hard tag sides at the start of the season, then had it easier after that. Bont didn't fall that much as in that mix, Swans decided to tag Macrae and Bont scored 166, keeping his price solid.

Has Pies (113), Bulldogs (167), Essendon (157) and Carlton (142) where he did ok on last year, none appear to be tagging. Except the Pies game 1, Bont also did ok against those teams last year.

Last quarter showed fitness doesn't look to be too bad. Some comments about ineffective possession look wrong, some of the hardest ground ball gets in the game by Neale were during that period.

He is going to lose money, just a question of if he gave you 120 for next 4 games yet falls $150k, would you trade him.

With Rowell, Danger, soft output from Clark, Daniher and Dow (all well owned), Cripps, soft rookies, do you trade Neale Gawn Grundy types (all talked about this week) when they could be just a quarter away from turning it around?

I've got some thinking to do! Like others here I had fyfe on field to take grundys score but I got sucked into the Friday footy vibes and made sharp my emergency and will cop his 20. I can swap highmore with fyfe and roll with a new captain or hope McNeil gets dropped and loop him, but cuts it very fine with cut off and possible emergency sub

I'd like to congratulate the throwlong Cats on their successful code switch. They'd be an appropriate counterpart to the Storm. Disgraceful match. An old, mind numbingly boring side going down with no dignity whatsoever. Selwood doing what he does, goals from offloads, no double 50 on Hawkins, no holding the ball in the last minute. Contrast that with Bews getting one his way for what I thought looked a lot like a sling tackle- which, incidentally, is the inevitable result of allowing players to hold it in for ages or throw it away. Of course the Lions did kick themselves out of it too, but allow me my rage.

Anyway, I'm a less than stellar 6/499 from Cripps, Walsh, Neale, Clark, Bailey and Daniher.
Neale- clearly underdone. Congrats to those who avoided him.
Bailey- star, I'd like him to up his possession count more often but there aren't many non KPPs who can score 97 from 16 touches and no goals. Would've been 115ish if the game was umpired to the standard of any local footy match.
Daniher- almost game, a 73 against Geelong isn't the end of the world though.
Sharp- definitely overawed in a big game away from home. Probably gets a rest now, at least I had him on the bench.
Clark- too much pressure for him in this one even in Geelong's snoozefest of a gameplan. He's got some skills, pretty weak when it counts though. Might be on the outer if he plays like that again, that is if Scott doesn't drop him straight away.
Speaking of weak, Gary Rohan and Gryan Miers :censored:
Perfectly summed up!

Overall there was a lot of poor umpiring going both ways ( few very soft ones Brisbane’s way in first half right in their 50 and a couple missed ones in the second half).

That’s just how it rolled. As a cats supporter we were lucky and I’ll take it.

Fantasy wise 6/602. Today’s choice is either merrett or Steele as captain

As a neutral i did enjoy the game as there was some niggle in it from both sides. Lions had their chances to out score geelong which would make it so frustrating for the lions to lose like that in the end. Umpiring was a bit questionable on both sides at times but i'd say geelong definitely got the 'rub of the green' when it counted in the last quarter.

Really gutless by the umpire to not reward holding the ball against blicavs, you see in the footage of cats fans in the background with hands on their heads when it happens as i think they all thought holding the ball was coming. That was such an obvious holding the ball really average to not call that.

Geelong probably would've blown Brisbane away with the talent they have, if you had an attacking game plan. I don't rate Scott as a coach, defensive crap, bullying/tagging tactics, not taking advantage of the new stand rule.

Scott is a shocking coach. We have the talent for a very straight forward game plan but he loves playing sneaky moves or players out of position which doesn’t just work.

As you say, I expect Neale to bounce back. As a Neale owner, who won't be trading him out, it's irrelevant how much money he loses. Good for the non-Neale Coaches who plan to trade him in though.

As someone who was punished almost all season by Neale in 2020 I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t having a smile here and there at his performance over the last 2 weeks. Collingwood in round 3 and we know bucks doesn’t mind a tag either.

He’s priority one to get in my side when he bottoms out, even if it’s at the cost of a sideways trade.

Do we need to introduce a coaches challenge or the ability to review an umpiring decision in the last minute of the game?

I hate seeing games decided like that, I think it's absolutely crucial the right call gets made there even if we have to slow down the game for it to happen.

Played: S Docherty and P Cripps

Ended up going through with my planned trades of B Grundy and P Dow for S Martin and D Martin which should make for an eventful month ahead.

L Neale (VC), J Daniher, J Clark and T Stewart in action tomorrow night.

Poor start with no players registering a score higher than 85 but Sloane and Laird should have something to say about that in the early game today. Gulden, Campbell and Warner will all be fielded and there are no other players from the remainder of the Saturday matches that will be fielded for my side thus leading to a massive Sunday.
