Role is great but he just has zero interest in getting the ball, that problem so many young players have where they're too afraid to do what they were put back there for. Bergman doing the same thing for Port.

Have I mentioned I love picking rookies... Gulden and Dow off so I could field Cahill and Rowe over Bergman

God Essendon look putrid though, so soft. That 20 second passage where Draper ran past the ball with no interest in it, Snelling missed two easy tackles, Parish ran away from the contest and then they let Port stroll out of a group of 6 odd Bombers all running away from the ball summed them up perfectly.

Damn, should've gone down the Butters route, was locked in all pre-season, but thought Phillips was a better option and cheaper, we'll see I guess.

Well done to those who started Butters, definitely suited to games Port will dominate, but still think he's going to go 95+ in average.

Merrett had one clanger in the first, must have led to the first goal because he hasn't been able to score since.

Either that or he's slept with the mother, wife and daughter of the CD scorer this week.

Truthfully though, wasn't given a couple of clearances where they must have added a kick because it bounced off someones foot first (not actual kicks) and a couple of touches that could have been contested graded uncontested and that will kill it. Did manage to lose 2 points for an effective handball in a scoring chain as well. Basically he's getting dicked and nothing he can do from here will change it because the game is over unfortunately.

Boak deserves his score fwiw, been quality. Merrett should be at 1:1 though, saying he's been the worst player on the field for the Bombers based on his negative contributions is ridiculous.

We both had him in our sides during preseason, I just had a hard time picking a flanker as 100+ averages from them are very rare. If he had of got more mid time in the AAMI game I would have picked him. Time will tell, not going to play Essendon every week and could even cop a tag soon like Cyril used to if he keeps this up.

He's had 3 to 4 possessions in this quarter, for 4 points.
