Quick Thoughts - Bombers vs Port
General - Was a stinker of a game mostly because only one team actually took the field, kind of boring to just watch one team chasing it's own tail while the other just waltzes around under no pressure. Hard to read much in it or what to take out of it! Bombers sure looked like the 2nd half of last week side which just sucks as they were good in the first half and looked like they'd be trying this year and 6 quarters later they just don't have any heart it seems.
Power - Not sure if they're scary good or they've just faced a pea-hearted opponent and a team with no talent over the first two weeks but they sure look really good. Moving the ball under no pressure but the way they're moving it is still excellent and they're just so dangerous when the ball hits the ground up forward.
Butters - Everywhere, just dominant playing a bit higher this week, Boak seemed to be pretty well managed through the game and Butters got the extra midfield minutes and made them count.
Wines - Solid.
Houston - Just destructive by foot today, not sure when his ineffective disposal was, sure didn't notice it, hit some ridiculous kicks. Looks great.
Lycett - Solid game, reckon he's one of the stronger rucks for the rule changes.
Motlop - Big again, working both ways which is rare.
Fantasia - Solid vulture effort again, he looks fit. Be interesting to see what happens when there is some resistance.
Aliir - Solid again.
DBJ - Not finding the ball this year.
Bergman - Salvaged a passable score and looked good doing it. Been solid through two weeks.
Bombers - Trash, just utter trash. No effort. One thing to be less fit but to get blown off the park in the first 5 minutes and not even muster a whisper in response is tragic. They've taken on the personality of their coach, just a complete nothingness to them as he sits there on the bench not showing an ounce of emotion or care about the game. Just hard to watch that kind of effort, feel sorry for their fans right now.
Ridley - Scored great, was solid but not great. They play like that and he can average 140 with the supply he will get, only problem being it's hard to intercept zero pressure I50 kicks.
Merrett - Got jobbed by the CD scorer but wasn't great and was pretty unlucky on a lot of his tackles that the throws would find Port players. Hard to play well though when your team hasn't got the ball, he was one of their best at actually getting it.
Hind - Another really solid outing. Like Ridley, going to get an awful lot of supply if they play that soft. Can't question his efforts.
McGrath - Bad McGrath today, just no effort.
Cox - Better game for him but needs to work harder. One of those super fit players who doesn't seem it.
Smith - Terrible game by him. Needs to be challenged after that, he's better than it.
Shiel - Medial by the looks of it, they might be better with someone who wants to work two ways instead of his entirely one way running...
Parish - Was horrific. It's been a couple of years since he's played that badly. He wouldn't find water if he fell out of a boat right now.
Caldwell - Hamstring, was actually playing well, one of the only guys actually chasing and pressuring so it sucks he's the guy who gets hurt.
Draper - Ankle injury for him, was playing terrible before that but further misery.
Cahill - Terrible. Role was fine but just refuses to take a chance and go for the ball, basically terrified of making a mistake to the point of ineffectiveness. Thrown forward late in the game which is basically Rutten telling him he's dropped a quarter in advance. Had all the opportunity and just too afraid to take it.
Jones - Good week for forward rookies... Never had a chance, the team were so putrid up the field that the 3rd tall is going to get no chances.
You might be able to tell that as a neutral fan I found the Bombers lack of heart and effort to be pretty pathetic
Lack of talent, maturity, fitness and luck, that's one thing but a total lack of effort is just hard to tolerate.
