Exactly
And like Oliver at Melbourne who feeds the trac
Taranto should be feeding jelly from the inside. Would help his efficiency ten fold and he’ll be a much better player and super coach scorer. Atm he gets it and tries to kick it under pressure and the clangers mount too quickly
Spot on, win/win for Kelly, TT and GWS.

Anyone have any concerns with Merrett?

Essendon had a pretty soul destroying loss, going to be another rough year for them. Fully expect them to get pumped plenty. No Draper probably means he suffers a bit at clearance.

Yep, he’s a worry, but I’ve got other problems to address. He’ll want push himself in a contract year, but he hasn’t got much help around him... I really want him to find that extra level... with Hepp out he’s been given the Captaincy... will see what he’s got in the next few weeks.

At the start of the season their were 13 players able to be picked in the mids that cost $ 600k +

After 26 games (small sample size admittedly)

Neale 80.3
Steele 115.3
Oliver 107.3
Macrae 121
Petracca 91
Bontempelli 106.3
Merrett 103.7
Hunter 74
Kelly 96
Dangerfield 92 (1 game)
Mitchell 122 (not including today)
Fyfe 100.5 (2 games)
Lyons 114

remarkably only 4 have exceeded 110+ including one who is rarely mentioned as a premium mid.

Looks like we have a new tagger to consider in VC/C choices. Mark O'Connor has now done a job on Neale and Mitchell (although he got plenty of it himself in the process yesterday). Will likely go to Oliver this week.

Putting aside the tagging role, as a stand-alone performance, his game was elite yesterday. 26 disp (11 contested), 8 clearances, 8 tackles (I'm tipping most of them on Titch) and 86% TOG - 121SC. I'd be very hesitant picking him at $406k given his role but it was a noteworthy performance.

His role also clearly benefits Guthrie, who was just everywhere yesterday. I'm still wary of picking him as well. I'd need to check the scoring history but it feels like every season he has a run of good scores and then reverts to sub-100 levels. Nevertheless, it's difficult to ignore 104, 124 and 163.

I find it amazing how much impact taggers - even pretty inexperienced ones - can have.

Kept Mitchell to 24 touches and 89 SC, and beat both those figures himself. Hadn’t tagged before the Neale game, but still managed career bests in SC and DT, while neutralizing one of the competition’s best.

As annoying as taggers can be for the spectacle and for fantasy scoring, when I see outcomes like this it really makes me think they’re underutilized.

Agree. I have no issue with that type of tagging role because it wasn't purely negative. MOC was winning his own ball and was one of Geelong's best midfielders on the day.

I've always had an issue with taggers that are purely there to stop a player and have virtually no interest in getting the ball themselves. I'm not suggesting it's outside the rules (although I'd love to see umps pay a few more holding the man frees to stamp it out) but for me it goes against the spirit of the game.

It isn't hard, for one to track the extremely rare and elusive creature known by it's scientific name ''The fallen premium midfielder'',
usually found inhabiting vast swathes of pristine grassland. One only has to look for the tell tale signs of a much more maligned creature, one who makes it's very living from sucking at the essence of the premium midfielder itself, and if I am not mistaken, ''ah, yes'' here is it's scat.

I am of course, talking about ''the Tagger'', and if I know my Tagger scat, there must be a premium midfielder hiding nearby, trying to avoid the Taggers detection!

I know this didn’t happen on Saturday but surely with Cogs, Daniel and De Boer out, Kelly gets played through the mids more? Even if he isn’t getting that many CBA’s, they could use his class through the middle right now.
