Perhaps Carlton can get BCrouch from St Kilda and Shiel from Essendon to go with Dow. What a spud, was talking with a long time Carlton supporter this week and he still thinks Dow is an up and comer. Poor bastard...
There's a player in there with Dow but Carlton are rapidly squeezing that life out of him. He's a putrid HF and playing him there is ending his career one game at a time. Just throw him on the ball for a month and you can find out once and for all whether it's worth persisting with at all. Teams not going anywhere right now anyway so find out if you've got a midfielder or not.

The worst bit is knowing that at some point Carlton will give up and trade him for peanuts, and that other team will actually figure out how to get the best out of him!

Recruiting shock: Pies sign Senegalese ruck prospect who has never played footy
Collingwood signs Bassirou Faye on an International Rookie Scholarship

COLLINGWOOD has landed one of the biggest recruiting shocks in recent memory, signing a Senegalese basketballer who has never played a game of football and is currently in his home country.

Bassirou Faye, 18, has committed to the Pies on an International Rookie Scholarship and will endeavour to return to Australia in coming weeks.

The athletic 202cm ruck prospect impressed in summer trials with NAB League club Oakleigh Chargers before being forced to return to Senegal due to visa constraints.

Faye originally arrived in Australia in the hope of chasing a basketball career before switching his focus to football late last year with the help of former Richmond and Hawthorn forward Tyrone Vickery.

Through a close link with Chargers regional manager Jy Bond, Vickery put Faye through a two-month training program across January-February before joining the club for several sessions.

Training alongside Collingwood father-son-in-waiting and potential 2021 No.1 pick Nick Daicos, Faye impressed Pies recruiters who acted swiftly to secure his signature.

Faye is expected to be back in the country inside a month where he will be required to complete a two-week quarantine block.

He is also expected to be granted AFL approval to play the 2021 NAB League season for the Chargers and replicate Geelong Category B rookie Paul Tsapatolis who is starting the year with the Western Jets.

The International Rookie Scholarship player sits outside the club's maximum list of 44 players and acts in a similar manner to an Academy program.

For Faye to be eligible for AFL selection he would need to be upgraded to the AFL list at the end of the year or future years in the official player movement window.

The Pies also signed Mason Cox through the International Rookie system in May 2014 before he debuted for the club on Anzac Day 2016.

The most recent example at a club was Papua New Guinean Hewago Paul Oea who was upgraded to the Suns' category B rookie list last November as an international scholarship holder.

Wearing goggles – reminiscent of NBA champion Horace Grant – Faye tested at the NAB League testing day in early March alongside 2021 draft prospects.

He ran a sub-three-second 20m sprint and recorded an 84cm running vertical jump after testers were forced to increase the height limit to accommodate his jump.

The Pies hold a strong link to the Chargers with eight current players previously calling Oakleigh home – Josh Daicos, Jordan De Goey, Isaac Quaynor, Trent Bianco, Will Kelly, Reef McInnes, Darcy Moore and Finlay Macrae who will debut against West Coast on Friday night.

To be fair it's just a continuation of their o***eason trading pattern of "getting rid of guys who can play footy" so it kind of makes sense.

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/04...l-tipped-to-go-pick-no-1-in-mid-season-draft/
Young Victorian Jacob Edwards has been tipped to go pick No.1 in this year’s mid-season draft.

Sportsday host Sam McClure says Edwards, 18, has been “turning heads” playing for Sandringham Dragons in the NAB League with his performances exciting AFL clubs.

“If you haven’t heard the name Jacob Edwards, just write it down,” McClure told Sportsday.

“I think he’s going to be an interesting prospect and I reckon he’ll be read out by whoever has the first pick in the upcoming mid-season draft.

“He actually nominated for last year’s draft but like a lot of his Victorian teammates, didn’t play. So he wasn’t seen, therefore they (clubs) didn’t take the risk on a 202cm ruck/forward.

“He’s been turning heads playing for Sandringham in the NAB League … he’s only 78kg so he’s got a bit of weight to put on.

“He’s been dominating and there’s some clubs very excited about him.”

Marlion Pickett (Richmond), Ryan Gardner (Western Bulldogs), Will Snelling (Essendon) and John Noble (Collingwood) – all selections from the 2019 mid-season draft – have all played regular football at their respective clubs.

But Edwards looms as a draft bargain given his age and untapped potential.

“This kid’s 18, he’s 19 in November, so whoever gets him in the mid-season draft is basically getting him ahead of time ahead of this year’s National Draft,” McClure said.

“Let’s say North Melbourne get him, they get him without having to use a pick on him. I don’t think he’s going to play AFL footy this year, but he’s a long-term project.

“It’s not what the mid-season draft was brought in for, having said that, it’s the perfect storm with COVID and the AFL wants to promote anyone, any age, to be able to get an opportunity.”

North Melbourne currently has the first pick in this year’s mid-season draft that’s slated for Wednesday June 2.

CARLTON has announced that president Mark LoGiudice will officially step down from the role at the end of 2021, ending an eight-year term at the helm of the Blues.

The club determined at Monday night's board meeting that LoGiudice, who has been serving on the board at Ikon Park for the last 12 years and has been president for the last eight, would be replaced by president-elect Luke Sayers.

"My duties as president will continue for the remainder of the year, in which during this period I will commence an official handover to Luke," LoGiudice said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Our members have entrusted me as president of their football club over the last eight years, that is a responsibility I have never taken for granted and I thank each and every one of them for their support.

"I always will be and am forever grateful for the privilege to serve the club over the last 12 years."
LoGiudice oversaw significant off-field improvements throughout his time as president, with the club now debt-free for the first time since 1996, having a record membership base and in the initial stages of Ikon Park's redevelopment.

However, the club has made finals just once throughout his tenure and is currently struggling with a 2-4 record on the season after an indifferent start to the current campaign.

Sayers, who will begin his term in 2022, has been a director at the club since 2012. He is the executive chairman of investment and advisory company Sayers and has previously held the role as CEO of PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

(how soon is too soon to be building pressure on a potential future player?)
KOUTA JUNIOR GOES BANG

Could we have another Koutoufides in the navy blue jumper in a few years? Judging by a recent performance, maybe.

According to 3AW reporter, Channel 7 producer and general media all-round guru Jacqui Reed, Lukas Koutoufides bagged 11 goals in a junior match on April 18.

Having booted four majors in the first half, he slotted seven in the second as his side romped to a big win.

He was playing for Ivanhoe in an Under 12s fixture, much to his dad’s delight.

Mini Kouta is eligible as a father-son selection in the 2028 National Draft.
