Personally I’m in a similar boat (I don’t have Grundy but have Gawn) and I would say let Flynn’s availability help you

If he’s not playing go with Option 1. But perhaps worth considering DPP Laird & getting Fredrick a week early? I, like you don’t really like any of the <123k rookies (aside from Fred). Also worth noting that if you have a shot to pick up Gawn / a 730k player, do it. He looks dominant and Melb only look like they’re going to get better

2. Option 2 is just as viable but the no Gawn situation might be problematic - imho having Gawn > Petracca & Walsh/Duncan/Guthrie so would personally take Option 1
You dont have a Dunkley to trade everyweek

The opportunity to grab a Gawn type doesn't come along often, not sure I'd be flirting with grabbing him later tbh.
Yeah, for those with a Dunkley/Neale and missing one of Gawn or Grundy I think the simple move is to lock them in.

People are getting some stability in the forward line with 95-100 guys like Zorko and Sidebottom, but you're not losing a whole lot still fielding 70s rookies like Warner long term, or even 60s rookies like Scott.

Whereas missing a possible 180 this week from both rucks will only see you drop rankings...

Have just done Dunkley > Macrae, Neale > Greene

I don't live the Greene trade but I need to get a forward otherwise I'll probably be copping a donut this week (still might) and he seems like the best option I don't have

Dunkley to Petracca and Gulden to Atu.

My defence is weak, my forwards are a mess (like most people) but still scoring OK, and I'm happy with my mids and rucks. $400K to fix some of these issues next round, and I think I know who I will be ideally targeting but expecting injuries to ruin things as usual.

Sorry Connoisseur! This is not the first time you have asked for my full team so that the community can best advise me. You'd think I'd smarten up :ROFLMAO:

My full team is below, $500 left in the bank

In a fantastic position with minimal iffy premiums or injuries. The biggest holes that need plugging would have to be F6 and M8. Given your interest in Heeney, you can hold off for another round and downgrade Flynn to R/F and upgrade Rowe to Heeney pushing McCreery to the bench when ready.

For this round, you could do Dunkley and Brockman to Zorko and F Macrae to free up close to $200,000. This also allows you to loop Scott and Macrae for RD7-RD9. An alternative could involve grabbing D Robertson instead meaning you could field him over Scott for the coming rounds but you will only have close to $100,000 left.

Cox can stay at D6 for this round and can be possibly downgraded to Frederick next round or upgraded to May, Short or Lloyd in the upcoming rounds as all have high breakevens.

Still unsure whether to go Gulden to Oliver or to Brayshaw and save some cash for further upgrades. Oliver is set and forget top 4 midfielder and could go on a great run against weaker teams, Brayshaw is more of an m8 type, great value but susceptible to hard tags and I'm already carrying Taranto who isn't a top 10 mid but might need to do as an m8 or luxury upgrade later on potentially if trades allow for it. The safe play is Oliver but the extra cash could be very handy for earlier upgrades. Any suggestions?

Second trade will probably just be going to Zorko, gets rid of a weak forward rookie especially in a week without Martin. Not a fan of Zorko, not a great age but with Neale out could be seeing some more mid time, can go on runs of 110 ppg given more mid time. Was contemplating both Oliver and Brayshaw and going weaker with forward rookies but with Rowe and Waterman not playing, there is hardly any bench coverage there having to play all of Warner, Bergman and Scott on field.

Would it be possible to post your side, trades left and remaining salary to further help with the suggestion?

Sure:

Ridley, Stewart, Laird, Docherty, Short, Chapman (Highmore, Mansell)
Macrae, Merrett, Walsh, Taranto, Gulden, Powell, Jordon, Scott (Campbell, Berry, McNeil)
Grundy, Gawn (Flynn)
Dunkley, Martin, Ziebell, Impey, Warner, Bergman (Rowe, Waterman)

$174,000 in the bank, 24 trades left

Need to strengthen my mids which has been my weakest line this season so far and remove a rookie on that line and feel Oliver is the natural choice there and Dunkley going down is a good opportunity to sure up that line, even Brayshaw improves that line however. Dusty out this week, was planning to put him on mid bench for Scott and play Berry on field (assuming he's selected) for the week.

First trade will be Dunkley to Zorko I think, leaving me with almost 500k. Second trade still undecided.

For the second trade, I'd love to grab an Oliver/Steele/Walsh type, however my forward rookies are killing me. I've currently got Warner, Scott, Rowe, Facrae all on field F3-F6 (+Waterman and Brockman).

The obvious move seems to be to make a forward upgrade, but I just don't love any of the options. Don't think I'm completely sold on Sidebottom after just one game. Any thoughts?
I’m in the same boat. Desperately need forwards as it’s rookie heavy but I don’t love anyone available. Mild interest in a Zorko/Heeney type but I’ve decided to invest more into the midfield with proven SPs, Oliver & Steele. Will look at Ben Brown closely as a value pick and possibly upgrade gulden to one of those forwards mentioned above.

Agree. It's the amount of time it takes to cobble together enough cash to buy a $650k+ player...realistically if you pass up on Dunkley to Gawn then the window to get Gawn is likely closed indefinitely unless something unexpected happens.

Hard choice, the decision goes beyond the relative scoring powers of the players but also the rookies currently playing onfield...the $120k saved may allow you to execute a double upgrade this round.

Notwithstanding, I'd punt on Oliver, given the weak schedule he faces in the next month - he's a chance to really run riot with heavy scores imo. Has a very high ceiling...scored 205 in a game last year. Brayshaw, if you still like him next week, will be around 500-510k...may still be within reach with your normal upgrade cadence.

Rucks and backs are fine and agree with your sentiment regarding the midfield. Oliver still very attainable and cheap considering his consistency and durability and I agree with @meataxe regarding Brayshaw. T Mitchell should be another solid choice between now and the next couple rounds as a cheap upgrade to move a rookie off the field.

I don't mind the decision to hold Gulden a while longer but unfortunately Campbell and McNeil cannot be traded to a Zorko/Sidebottom due to insufficient funds but Gulden can. Depending on their performance this round, you could trade Campbell and Flynn to Heeney and R/F moving Zorko/Sidebottom to the midfield and Scott, etc to the bench next week.

Dunkley/Gulden to Gawn/Deven leaves me looking like this.

Annoyingly $800 short of being able to trade Campbell instead of Gulden in the above scenario.

@wogitalia certainly has me giving some serious thought to Farrar as an alternative to Dev for a 40k saving...

I can bare it no longer, but this is a heck of a week to decide who out of Gawn or Grundy to trade in.
I am leaning strongly to a coin toss as that absolves me of any responsibility for the outcome.
So my question is, should Gawn or Grundy be heads?

I'd take Gawn ahead of Grundy for sure. He's looked unbelievable, as has his entire team. Grundy has had a couple of down games this season, Gawn has not.
