I haven't been paying/devoting much time to SC this season, however, I did note that you were ranked 60th after R1 and I'm somewhat intrigued that you haven't made the most of that good start. So what has happened since for your team to be ranked 41K+ at the conclusion of R8...?
Sometimes, it's prudent to reflect on what has transpired in order to go forward with a sense of renew purpose otherwise we'll just remain in that cycle which will consume our team before we know it.
Below is an excerpt from your R1 Review...
A couple of key observations upon reflection
- You put the cart ahead of the horse by virtue of proclaiming yourself in the Heroes
- Despite your stubbornness, you were fully aware of the potential problems of an all Rookie rucks AND had a plan in place at the time
Let's have a look at what actually unfolded since R1...

- You had a relatively good 4-5-0-5 'Keepers' starting structure and only missing a couple of key Rookie which you corrected in R3.
- Instead of using Danger to 'fix' your Rookie ruck, you went with your preseason instinct of Heeney instead which ultimately cost another trade.
- Sliding door between Jelly or Cripps to trade out in R4, you went Jelly.
- Hickey in & straight out, another trade on the Ruck line.
- Dunkley in R7 presented another opportunity to 'fix' your Ruck, you went Mumford & ROB instead.
- Your Fantasia to Stringer trade last round pretty much sum up your trading philosophy (or lack of foresight) thus far and is the main contributing factor IMHO to your massive slide since R1.
- Going early on Kos & Scott along with trading out Rookie of little to no value (Meek, Hunter & Sharp) has further compounded your lack of cash generation potential.
It has already cost you 4 trades to go from a Flynn/Meek/Hunter to Mumford/ROB/Flynn setup. Imagined if you had followed through with your thoughts on the Rookie Ruck situation post R1 once it was evident that it wasn't going to hold up, Danger to Grundy would've got you half way to addressing the problem.
The other thing which is apparent when looking at your Outs & Ins is the imbalance towards sideway trades over new cash generating Rookie which you're starting to see the effect now.
I think there's a lot of lessons to be learnt from what I've just written and we've all cross that roads at least once in our SC experience. You now have 17 trades to get the most out of your R8 team, that should be your focus going forward...and have a bit of FUN while you're at it.
I trust that you will take my post in the right context as i) I'm here to assist and ii) I was genuinely interested to find out what has happened since R1. Hopefully this will also serve as a reminder to the many coaches which frequent our site.
Cheers Thanh
Appreciate the post.
Stubbornness is by biggest life fault (can be a strength).
Once I decided to start the all rookie ruck line I was all in (rightly or wrongly) and knew it had to be 6 rounds to see how it went (yes I got that wrong)
Certainly didn't expect Mumford to play as much as he had and be the # 1 ruck. (error judgement).
Was hoping Meek & Darcy could play together , uncertainty when Darcy was returning (another judgement error)
Opportunity was certainly their for Hunter given the situation with Ryder & Marshall , did not see the scenario where he would get dropped (another judgement error)
So yes I probably should have corrected before I did.
Still think Premium , Hickey / Flynn was the ideal starting line in the Rucks.
Once Dangerfield was injured I saw the opportunity to bring Heeney in , my views on him SC wise are well documented , certainly wasn't expecting him to get injured (so soon) and then trade him out.
Poor judgement , wasted injury trade.
Round 3 trading Scott out (think I admitted my mistake at the time and should have traded Hunter) again was poor , think Scott has nearly made $ 150k
Brought Jordon & Warner in , probably should have started them , probably went too heavy up forward.
Round 4
Cripps or Kelly
Kelly had 98 , 90 & 100 was lured into the thought of 115+.
Durability issues in the past , ok I need Impey & Ridley (crystal ball didn't tell me Ridley would be concussed and available for $ 500k)
Koschitze didn't look AFL standard , another poor judgement call (made $ 150k profit)
Round 5
To me Hickey looked to be the # 3 Ruck and offered massive value , injured that game and diagnosis was 6-8 weeks , so out he goes Round 6 (frustrating building at wasting trades)
Went early on L.Jones (injured)
Round 6
Hickey & Campbell - > Mansell & McCreery I think was mainly for bubble boys.
Eating donuts in the ruck.
Round 7
Dunkley
Decided ROB instead of Grundy as I actually thought ROB was a massive chance to get close to Grundy this season (another judgement error) , 3 x 100 games before I trade him in and 2 pathetic games since (also looked at McEvoy)
at this stage having massive concerns about generating enough cash to fund upgrades.
Was sick of ruck donuts so was keen on the Mumford/Flynn piggyback idea.
Round 8
Not alone in going May , was looking at Brayshaw then found Stringer's numbers , 3-4 scores over 80+ @ $ 325k in a season of Atkins , Hall , Hind , Impey , Walker , Ziebell etc surely he works as well.
Nope take a chance and he goes and get injured.
(Stringer was meant to be my fun trade)
Fantasia was a terrible starting pick (oh for Cumming or Jiath instead)
So yes from 60 in Round 1 , I am definitely skydiving without any chutes.
Stubbornness plays it part , 2-3 different choices of players who knows , bench not playing (like many) leads to poor cash generation.
Yes I would love to be bringing in $ 500k players when I upgrade , realistically that is not going to happen.
Accept my situation and hit "Delete Team" , trust me I am very close.
That's not in my make up though so will battle on and see what I can salvage.
17 Trades & $ 242,800.00 in the Bank
Mansell
Powell ✓ , Jordon ✓
Warner ✓ , Rowe
all are onfield at the moment and need to be fixed before even looking at "luxury" options of fixing May , Daniel , Cripps , O'Brien & Stringer.
Even looking at $ 500k players for upgrades I need to find $ 1,053,700.00
So what to do ?
Could very well be the last round for cheapies for awhile so :-
Berry - > Byrnes or Collier-Dawkins
McNeil/Rowe (both still with $$$ to make) or Warner - > Poulter
next round
Flynn - > Treacy
then just sit and milk every $$$ from rookies and then try and upgrade
Honestly I don't know , so if you have any short term suggestions that would be greatly appreciated.
Hope my reply makes some sense.
Too early for the BBL so I need to soldier on
Thanks again
Cheers
PS I think being 60th after Round 1 , the SC God's just set me up 😉
Nope my team , my ownership on decisions that have been massively wrong
