Combination of Newman coming back into the side and ZWilliams returning to the traditional attacking defender role has forced Doch up the ground. It’s a conundrum. Supposedly they recruited Zac to play midfield but he’s shown how much more effective he is as a defender. I’m actually tempted to bring him in. I guess Carlton are just going to have to work out which one of them can play up the ground more

Does anyone think Docherty will remain in a wing role?

I noticed he went back later in the game and salvaged a score. That was probably a temporary measure to cover Newman who went down in the third.
Interesting on On the Couch, they were amashing Doc for lack of defensiveness. They suggested Teague needs to make hard decisions and Doc Murphy need to be dropped. Review under way at Carlton, has macro risk factor in my view.

Bad coaching this season has left Doc exposed one on one with key forwards at times, blames Doc for "lack of defensiveness", makes sense. Moves Doc to a wing, Doc blamed for not being defensive enough still, puts Newman in the backline instead knowing that Newman of course is basically Doc lite, blame Doc anyway. I suggest the hard decision is to tell Teague to learn how to spot defensive mismatches and to stop them from happening to begin with and that Doc isn't Glenn Archer.

Doc is a great floating defender because of his intercept ability and his kicking and a decent small defender but he's a very ordinary winger as the last month has displayed.

The worst part of him to the wing is Newman is a very good winger and not a very good defender. One of those weird moves that coaches make that just makes no sense. On a positive, Docherty and Newman had already switched roles with Newman onto the wing in the 2nd half before Newman went down so hopefully that will continue.

If Teague bows to pressure from some muppet on a couch and dropped Doch, they should just fire him now.

Chin up mate - last time he had a really poor score (51 points in round 11) he went on to score 118, 96, 94, 87, 86 for an average of 96. Never great when a first up score is a disappointment but anything could happen from here and he has the scoring pedigree so hang in there!

Got a mate in a pretty competitive final this week. He needs to trade ZWilliams and can afford any player. Already has Laird and Stewart so it's pretty much a choice between Rich, Mills and Lloyd. I'm pretty much discounting Lloyd. He's been solid and safe but just hasn't been the seagull of old this year. Looks like Dawson has been hurting his numbers of late. His opponent has Rich so that's the break even move but I'm still a little nervous that he can keep it up. Has never averaged over 100 in SC and is now pushing 32. Clearly in career best form and has had a juicy run of late. Mills feels like the safer pick and Sydney has a good run home. Just worry how he'll go after two weeks of not being able to leave the house. Crisp, Dawson and Ridley the other considerations on the next rung down.

Think Mills will be absolutely dandy. 2 weeks off at this point in the season should mean he starts making other players look like witches hats by the 4th quarter.

Rich a risk averse play but even if he gets value out of it this week what does it mean for the next 3?

Mills no question for me - the break would of freshened him up you would think, although we have no idea how well he handled the situation personally.

Do not let Rich’s age be a large deterrence. Quite cliched and consistently misapplied by most, as it is highly relevant for midfielders and ruckmen but not so much for defenders given their uncontested style. If they have avoided serious injuries throughout their career, it is a lucrative fantasy role well into their mid to late thirties. Excluding the 22 from 44% TOG last season, he has averaged 90+ in 4/5 seasons under F@gan.

Ranked in the top 5 for kicks per game and metres gained per game over each of the past three seasons thanks to the rule changes of which he has been close to the biggest beneficiary due to his elite skills by foot.

I have traded Zilliams to Whitfield.
