Congrats and good luck this weekend to both @Bomber18 and @Diabolical. I hope selection is kind to both sides.

A bitter pill to swallow @lappinitup, but a great season by your boys.

On another note, do we have anyone keen to put together a Grand Final Preview this week ? Would be a good spirit lifter for those in lockdown ahead of the big game this weekend. :)

Round 14 - Timelords (2140) DEF BY Rangers (2242)
Finals Week 2 - Timelords DEF BY Rangers (2266)

Recent Form (most recent score first)

Timelords - 2057; 2029; 1982; 1932; 2075 - avg 2015

Grand Final Preview
It's fitting that the SCSUL |02 premiership comes down to a tussle between a fast growing rivalry of the Roppongian Rangers and the Arcadia Timelords. Season 1 saw the Timelords with the wood over the Rangers in the home and away season, however revenge was sweet for the Rangers when they met in the elimination final. In season two, each had a win away against each other in the home and away rounds. They met again in the 2nd semi final, with the Rangers prevailing to go straight into the decider.

After seven rounds, the Roppogian Rangers seemed far away from being a contender, let alone getting to the grand final. After 5 rounds they were 2-3 including a loss to the Arcadia Timelords, and by round 7 they were 3-4 after another loss in round 7. But from there on in the Rangers ran the table finishing the last 11 rounds undefeated and carrying that momentum to win both their finals to date. A combination of shrewd trading and healthy players propelled their premiership tilt.

In contrast, the Arcadia Timelords flew out of the gate, winning 11 out of their first 12 games. They would only lose two more games for the home and away season, including a home clash against the Rangers in round 14. Talent and consistent scoring allowed them to finish two games clear on top of the ladder at the conclusion of the regular season. After once again coming off second best at home against the Rangers in the second week of the finals, they overcame the tenuous YRA to make the playoff decider.

Selection headaches?
  • The Rangers will welcome back Toby Greene after suspension. Does the out of form Matt Rowell retain his spot or do they go with the experienced Dan Hannebury who only returned to play last round? They will be sweating on the fitness of Jake Lloyd and Luke McDonald.
  • The Timelords with be sweating on the fitness of Callum Mills (Achilles), Kyle Langford (Hamstring) and Tom Green (Hamstring). Could an under done Stephen Coniglio make a miraculous appearence for the big one?
Key Matchups
  • The Midfield Battle: Bontempelli/Steele/Merrett/Lyons v Macrae/Parish/Liberatore/Fiorini. On paper, the Rangers' midfield look far too strong with a core group of elite superstars but the Timelords could win this battle if the pressure of the occassion to the Rangers superstar mids comes to bear. Will the pressure of captaincy be too much for one of this group handing the advantage back to the other team?
  • The Ruck Battle: Hickey/Marshall v Darcy/NicNat. On consistency the Timelords have the advantage here. But does that mean anything in the biggest game of the season?
  • Boom or Bust: The Timelords will be looking to their forwards in Daniher, Thrillthorpe and Flying Ryan to sparkle.
Prediction: The Rangers to get it done by 145 pts as they carry their late season form to the premiership cup.

All the best of luck to @Bomber18 and @Diabolical in the big one, and thanks to all for a great season.

Thanks Ken, and good luck Sho!

There is a rumour going around that Stephen Coniglio has recovered from his sore toe and has been training well behind closed doors at the Tardis. He is right in the mix and could be a surprise inclusion, despite his lack of match fitness, as the Timelords look to add some experience for the big one! This could help release Mark Blicavs back to his more familiar defensive role as he has struggled a little playing more up the ground the past couple of weeks.

All the best @Diabolical! Will no doubt be a close game!

Nank seems to be a bit gun shy every time we play! Not risked last time with late out concerns and has already been ruled out of the GF!

Whispers are that Rowell will get the nod over Hanners, Rangers have taken the policy of no farewell games!

Best of luck @Bomber18

The Timelords have made four changes from the team that took on YRA last week.

In: Mills, O’Meara, McLean, Murphy
Out: Francis, Cook, Mihocek, Honey

Mills & O’Meara speak for themselves. McLean has come in to play along side Daniher and Thilthorpe in an attempt to try and stretch the Rangers defence height wise. Honey can count himself unlucky but he is more value as a DPP on the bench in an attempt to maximise back up coverage even if it means the lowest score counts.

Arcadia Timelords are about to come onto the ground. For those who can’t remember the club song* …

Manipulating space and time, so we are always in our prime.

Dominating every line, our silky skills are so sublime.

Cheering fans on the sideline, help launch us for our ladder climb.

Winning flags to pass the time, we are the envy of mankind.

We’re the Timelords

From Arcadia

Oh yeah

*For those who can’t remember the tune ...

Big day today @Bomber18

You have your nose in front, but not safe yet.

I just want to check if your score in the sheet 15/1430 is correct? I have you as 8 players still to play - Steele, Marshall, Redman, Merrett, Heppell, Hind, Lynch, McDonald - so something is not adding up as you can’t have 23 players … but it is probably just me missing something!

Yep still anyone’s game especially as Darcy could no doubt match NN’s efforts!

A lot riding on J Steele for me.

I think the score may be picking up TLynch RICH for me which should fix itself when T Lymch ADE plays.

Ah yes of course .., the curse of two players one name!

Yes I think Steele could be the deciding factor if he misses his average in either direction. If not, Darcy & Marshall will have key roles in that game.

@Bomber18 I needed to hold ground in that game to keep hanging on by my fingernails. Unfortunately Darcy may have put the first nail in my coffin … need Parish to outperform ANZAC Day now!
Commiserations @Diabolical - you had some rotten luck with some key injuries and the tag to Parish! Fortunately for me, my blokes stood up when it mattered, thanks largely to Steele and Marshall who have been instrumental for me in each of my finals!

A shout out to the six former members of @Darkie’s Darkness as well, who were all important additions to the Rangers squad for 2021 (all on one year deals).

Thanks Sho.

All good, I had a great run with injuries mid season that set me up for a GF tilt. All things being equal I think the Timelords were ranked about 4 or 5, so thrilled to have the season we did and get on stage at the big dance!

Good to see the merger paid off ;)

Now that the final siren has sounded, I would like to congratulate @Bomber18 and his Roppongian Rangers on your emphatic win.

Far to strong on the day, however, our emerging Timelords will be stronger for the experience.

I would like to extend a special thanks to our league commissioner @KLo30 and his trusty o***ider @Goodie's Guns I feel privileged and have thoroughly enjoyed being part of this competition over the past two seasons and look forward to going one better next year!

Congratulations @Bomber18! A worthy winner, after being the highest scoring side across the home and away season, and another high score in the big dance to secure the victory!

Commiserations to @Diabolical. They say that premierships are built on defence, and you managed to hold your opponents to the lowest average score, while being the second highest scorer yourself. Injuries late in the season make it tough.

The Darkness is pleased to have had an impact on this year’s final series … albeit perhaps not in the way we might have envisaged at the start of the season!

Coach Darkie is, however, happy to help any coaches looking to launch their 2022 premiership tilt, and ready to start as soon as Mad Monday is out of the way 😋
