I started Grundy with Flynn and Meek last year. I can see a couple of rookie rucks looking to break in for games this year.
Comben, Mirkov and Hayes are 3 I am keen to track in the preseason. Keen to have another crack at something similar.
I went with the same ruck setup last year and it backfired dramatically. Proceeded to burn trades, around 4 in 2 weeks to get my structure right to get gawn in - missed the boat with impey, CJ and the like.

Set and forget rucks, even if you start NicNat and you realise Darcy is a must have, its easy to just one trade.
Rookie ruck setup is asking for trouble - never again.

FWIW - Darcy, Grundy this year for mine. Then whichever rookie ruck is named R3

Nice work mate. I'm looking at Sam Butler, M/F for the Hawks. Play quite a few later games in the first 9 games.

Current team - looking to lock in the ''pigs'' in the middle from the start and ignore value here. I normally start maybe 2 uber premos in the middle, however this season our premo rucks aren't both 700k to start which helps picking more uber mids. Trying to trade in the mids who are the accumulators is just really hard when they sit over 600k pretty much all year- i look at players like petracca/bont, and i feel there will be the odd game where they hit an 80, where macrae/oliver will be more consistent (if that makes sense!) Only Neale at M5 is value, i really would like Titch to start with too.

Anyhow, i feel this is fairly cookie cutter which i like, and naturally like most teams there are the injury prone players - might look to rectify later and bring in crisp and drop heeney/butters for 200k players.

Llyod, Hall, Whitfield, Sinn, Gould, Wilmot, E - Dean, Chugg
Macrae, Steele, Miller, Oliver, Neale, Daicos, Clark, Johnson E Valente, mead, Butler(m/f floating donut)
Grundy, Darcy E Hayes
Dunks, Heeney, Butters, Cogs, Hollands, Smith, Bazza, Pedlar

With Jake Kelly joining Essendon it should in theory free Ridley up more to play as intercept marker so certainly on my radar. One concern is Heppell taking the kick in duties, I recall in the back half of last season Heppell taking far more kick ins than expected which was very annoying.
Differently gone all out in the fwds. I’ve done the opposite and filled the defence. Like it though.
Defenders

Jake Lloyd $586,600
Aaron Hall $572,900
Jordan Ridley $537,100
Lachie Whitfield $502,600
James Sicily $448,100
Will Gould $123,900
Garrett McDonagh [E] $117,300
Charlie Dean $102,400

Midfielders

Jack Macrae $699,900
Jack Steele $685,800
Clayton Oliver $672,000
Lachie Neale $543,200
Charlie Constable $213,400
Nick Daicos $193,800
Dylan Stephens $167,800
Ben Hobbs $153,300
Reef McInnes $123,900
Matthew Johnson $117,300
Greg Clark $117,300

Rucks

Sean Darcy $642,600
Oscar McInerney $509,600
Sam Hayes [E] $123,900

Forwards

Josh Dunkley $558,200

Season Greeting to All Members.

Here is the 1st Draft. Interested in all reviews.
Like the PODs NicNat and Rowell!

A few players I have some concerns about:
- Rioli: Has to average about 85 to make as much money as a 120k rookie who averages 45. Could happen, but I think Sicily is a stronger option at only 100k more, and he can easily become a keeper.
- Brodie: At this point, I find it hard to see him breaking into the Freo midfield. Think he might end up a bit like Dow last year - mostly forward but with spurts in the midfield. Although he has at least scored reasonably well before. There should be enough forward rookies to pick one more instead.
- Maynard: Interested to hear your logic on him over someone like Short? Would have to improve on last year to make the top 6 defenders.

Rioli, with Houli gone I assume Daniel will get his role expect 90+ Looked ok in the role later part of last season. Preseason watch and will shift forward at some point. Sicily, Hawks are stacked with options down back, prefer day and bramble myself.

Brodie, midfield rotation spot up for the taking with the departure of Cerra. Fyfe if he gets onto the field has bang up shoulders and Mundy is 1000 years old. Apart from Serong & Brayshaw their are a few midfield spots up for contention. Brodie is Walters long term replacement expect him to rotate through midfield and play forward. Can easily downgrade to RK to upgrade D4 if needed.

Maynard, speculation pick. Is training with the midfield, is as good as it gets one on one and may be De Goeys replacement on the ball. Let’s see if he has the tank. Pre Season Watch. Can easily shift to a Short/Ridley type.

Fair call on Sicily, could switch forward at some point! Just noting Rioli averaged 79 down back, so would need to improve a lot in that role to get to 90.

Cerra does open up a spot, so we'll get an idea in pre-season if that gets filled by Fyfe or Brodie (Brayshaw, Serong, and Mundy seemed pretty set in the midfield last year).

Ah interesting to hear Maynard is training midfield! I wonder if that means Crisp will stay down back mostly.

Seems quite clear Hawks (based on comments made recently) see Sicily as a defender and now have several young targets up forward. Risk to me is Jiath as an interceptor and Sicily coming back from ACL.. Even in his good years was a little prone to a 60.

Thanks to @gutsroy for his brilliant team picker resource assisting those of us without a Gold subscription.

Mostly $123,900 rookies as I have not bothered nor paid much (if any) attention to the draft, etc so far. Petrevski-Seton occupying a spot until options emerge in preseason as well as providing a possible structure I like, if I need to go that deep down back.

First draft.

Hewett could become Bramble. Expecting a big improvement from Yeo if fit and with new WC game plan. Need to see what changes they make first however before sticking with that. The Policeman and rookies are really just placeholders.

You only have 9 spots in the midfield you need 11, hopefully it doesn’t push it over the 10 million. Looks good though 👍

Like the Anderson POD pick. If he can stay healthy, he’ll likely be a top 10 forward in my opinion.

Agreed re staying healthy is the key. If he can have a good pre season that will help a lot. In 2020 he scored over 140 three times plus another score of 170 plus. Enormous ceiling but a health risk.

My early thoughts are that I’d prefer Heeney or Butters if looking at that price range.

Anderson has only had the one good year (15 games, shorter qtrs too that year) and outside of that his best average is 87, which still isnt good enough for a premo fwd. Now has Greenwood and the LDU / TThomas breakouts to deal with too. Injury concerns too !
