Crows fans, is Luke Pedlar now fully fit/ a realistic chance for round 1?

123K Fwd/Mid - here is his draft profile:

POSITION: Inside Midfielder/Forward

DRAFT ANALYSIS: “Perhaps the biggest ‘bull’ in this draft, Pedlar is as hard as they come. His power and scoreboard impact separate him from other strong bodied midfielders in the 2020 cohort.” – Ed Pascoe

Glenelg and Prince Alfred College (PAC) representative Luke Pedlar started the year in fine form and despite missing selection in South Australia’s Academy Hub, he was able to earn a combine invite - which was a similar situation to last year's draft bolter Harry Schoenberg. Unlike Schoenberg, Pedlar wasn’t able to represent his state at this year's National Championships due to the Covid situation, and a late season injury meant he would miss both PAC’s Grand Final and also the All-Stars game. It means Pedlar could keep going under the radar, which may have not been the case if 2020 went smoothly for the 183cm midfielder. Pedlar is as tough as they come and despite a shoulder injury last year and knee injury this season, he could still be a factor for this year's draft given he boasts plenty of traits scouts will love and a style that holds up well for finals football. Also a talented cricketer, Pedlar has sport running through his veins and is a natural athlete and competitor.
I could be wrong, but I think he only played half the practice match with a heap of their best 22 missing so doesn't bode well for his round 1 prospects.

I love the look of Pedlar (someone told me he played like Gary McIntosh who is my favourite footballer ever!) long term but I struggle to see him getting a regular run at it - particularly early in the year. I personally would rather have him killing it in the SANFL and having his body right this year. I think he had off season (early on ) should surgery and has had various other body issues managed so i think they are exposing him slowly. That combined with him not putting his hand up to bang the door down means i would rather not start him and correct to him, as opposed to going with him from round 1.

That said if he is named and no one else is well i guess i am on board LOL

On Sinn, Hinkley said the line-breaking left-footer had put himself in contention for a round one debut against Brisbane despite his interruptions over the past two seasons.

"He's played six games in two years and his pre-season would suggest he's played a lot more footy than that. As a football club we don't mind putting our inexperienced players out there very early and giving them some experience," Hinkley said.

"Again, he has to earn that opportunity and so far in the pre-season he has certainly been playing well and we took him to the Gold Coast last week. If he doesn't play round one he'll be playing early. He'll be right in the mix."

Good signs.

I'll be honest, that's a terrible thing to hear from me and scares me if his not named round 1. I've taken players in the past with a very similar retoric that never played that season for whatever reason. One thing I've learnt is that a week in football is a very long time, it's much better now where we can reverse trades but I remember years ago where I was forced to trade early on a Wednesday I think it was only to find the player had injured himself the next day.

Let's hope he's just named and plays because he does look good.

Too many other options ahead of him I think , seems their are half a dozen they are going to roll into 3-4 spots , very hard 22 to break into.

Mind you yet to find a coach speaking negatively about players in preseason to the media.

I realised after posting it should have been a ? rather than a . at the end of my comment then, but couldn't be bothered editing.

I agree, if he's not named Rd 1, do you hold him on the fact the coach has said he plays early? I dunno if I trust it either. I do know Port have blooded rookies early recently, and they are one of the better ones in terms of naming team selections early, so hopefully this is reliable...

Yeah that’s sort of what I was thinking Blaze, Sholl, Hamill and Schoenberg probably all get picked ahead of him at this point and you've got Matt Crouch coming back in too. That being said I could see him getting a run a bit later in the season if one of those three is injured or their form is down and they are looking for a change. Also have Hately in the mix who's still a bit of an unknown at this point.

Only way I could see him getting a start early is if they see him as a viable forward and him Rachele both manage to push out Jimmy Rowe and Lachie Murphy, which isn’t beyond the realm of possibility.
