What's the info on Zane Trew? I think he was emergency a few times last season from memory, is he a decent player and chance for any games?
He is an inside mid/stoppage specialist but he is on the slow side.

Had a number of injuries last year, including hamstring strains - believe he is still injured currently, have not heard much about him at all this preseason.

lazy 38 disposals for Docherty in the VFL practice match
So awesome, big fan of the Doc

CARLTON'S inspirational leader Sam Docherty completed another step in his remarkable return to football on Thursday, producing a sizzling individual performance in a VFL practice match against Casey at Ikon Park.

Docherty remains unlikely to feature in the club's blockbuster round one clash with Richmond in a fortnight's time, but did everything right in his comeback match to finish with 38 disposals playing across half-back.

It was the former co-captain's first competitive outing since completing 12 weeks of chemotherapy last year, having been diagnosed with a secondary reoccurrence of testicular cancer in August.

Docherty patrolled the backline and played the full match, arguably finishing as the game's best player despite Casey easing to a comfortable 39-point victory. The former All-Australian's rebound and precision by foot was a standout feature of his performance.

Makes me think that players like Kemp & Boyd will struggle to hold their spots if named round 1 with Docherty looking so good in his return game.

Weideman, Bedford and Turner all played in the same match as Doch today so won't feature tonight.

So Melbourne will likely play 23 players with three of their best 22 missing who will be available round 1 (May, Salem, Hibberd).
Think most sides will do this, majority of them have a VFL practice match scheduled this weekend.

The likely return of a number of Fremantle’s star players for Sunday’s AAMI Community Series clash with West Coast will lead to some tough calls being made on who makes way, according to Executive General Manager of Football Peter Bell.

Speaking on SEN, Bell said Sean Darcy, David Mundy, Michael Walters and Luke Ryan were all likely to play, while Nat Fyfe also remained a chance to play limited minutes.

There are four Doig Medallists and four All Australians in that group of five, and Bell said their returns would mean some deserving players could miss out on selection.

All five trained with the group on Thursday at Optus Stadium as they prepare for Sunday's clash.

“We’re obviously going to have some difficult conversations with some other players who performed really well last Friday and performed well over the pre-season,” Bell told SEN.

“We’ll manage that as best we can and work out the exact numbers of players we’ll expose in the senior game against West Coast. There will be a number of others who will play a match sim with our alignment team Peel as well.”

Bell said Fremantle left Darcy out of last Friday’s practice match as a precaution.

“Sean just jarred his thumb a couple of weeks ago. He could have played, it’s not an injury that’s going to require surgery. It was a little bit sore but he’ll play this Sunday,” Bell said.

Fremantle are yet to decide on when Nat Fyfe will have his first hitout as he targets a round one return.

“We’ll make a call on whether he plays a half this week (against West Coast) or has a further week of training,” Bell said.

“We don’t have a scheduled match (next weekend) but we are planning to do some match sim that weekend.

“We’ll make a call on that but he’s going really well and just getting that touch back and kicking the footy as much as he possibly can, that’s paramount over the next week or so.”

The Gawn v Darcy decision is going to drive me crazy before round 1 :ROFLMAO:

Boyd and Kemp have some hope as they are both versatile players, Boyd was mainly a forward in the lower levels.

Good to see Jones named on the dogs bench, 117K Def/Fwd :-

Jones, from Claremont Football Club, is a player with tremendous upside, who can play as an outside midfielder or wingman, as well as a forward.

The 18-year-old is known for his endurance and impressive kicking skills, who turned heads with an impressive performance at the Draft Combine.

Jones hails from Mt Barker in regional Western Australia, and is a relation of the Krakouer family.

This kid play, very skinny but he has some real AFL qualities.

This makes me happy. Hope Cunnington gets back on the field this year too - another real favourite of mine and neither of them deserve what they've been through.
