I'm not sure how mauch better Hewett could play compared to last night, I actually thought he was really good so for me that was close to his ceiling especially with Walsh to come back.

Do people think Docherty will affect McGovern, I didn't realise McGovern was so cheap? These $270k - $200k players look thick this season.

No Doch will probably play defensive wing with rotations with Williams or just play attacking HB. McGovern will score mostly from intercept marks and intercept possessions, Doch may take a few rebound kicks but won’t affect scoring much and JS at all.

Little talk on the Carlton board that he came off shaking his head. No ice after game, but strange we player 17 on field in the last quarter. McGovern is a hamstring waiting to happen.

The big difference here is that Sicily and Heeney are not in the midfielder line. They only need to improve a bit and are keepers. Cripps needs to increase a lot to become a keeper.

I think that line of thinking holds more weight for a player who hasn't achieved it before. Essentially you are either willing to bet that there has been something wrong the last two seasons that is now fixed, or you're not willing to (either because you think it's not fixed or because it was a permanent decline). The proposition that he has the capacity to be a mid premo is surely not in question.

Agree was just stating why more players have Heeney and Sicily over Cripps.

I have all three and they will all be common this year.

Ken Hinkley: "This week is - as much as we possibly can - a full dress rehearsal," Hinkley said. "Players, numbers ... and attitudes.

"What we want in round one, we have to make sure we are (on Saturday) close to our round one attitude and the performance (expected against top-four contender Brisbane).

"We will hopefully play 23. There will be one or two others just in case for minor injuries that you won't take a risk with - we just don't need to do that (in a practice game).

Very interesting comments from Hinkley - if they do just play 23, it will give us a very strong indication of their round 1 team.
