I'm personally loving how scarce the rookies are, looks as though theres alot less cookie cutting than recent years. Structure wise I've been set on this sort of structure for a while, just need to pray and hope a D8 shows up.
DEF:
Crisp= I really dont think 110 is that far off a stretch. Similar to Laird/Mills last year, I really like guys who have plyed their time in defense before being unleased into the midfield. Just seem to be so much less panicky when they get the ball in a high pressure situation.
Ridley = Not too concerned about the whole kickout sharing, last year if he got more than 10 disposals he averaged 105...
Short = Didn't have him last year, but he's arguably must have with no Houli. If I need 30k he's going to Whitfield
Hewett= I think 96-102 is realistic and achievable.
Hinge / McCartin = comfortable fielding both, think Hinge's spot in best 22 is actually quite safe for the short term at least. I think SDK will play, and right now just praying to the gods a D8 rocks up from nowhere.
MID:
Steele/Touk = Neither have moved from my side since the teampicker opened. Absolute workhorses, no questions around role, perfect age. Having a fit Marshall/Witts should also benefit.
Kelly = In the words of Carl Johnson... Ah ****, here we go again..... This will be the 3rd year in a row I've started him. Can't believe I've been sucked in again. The role looked outstanding in the aami game, two full preseasons in a row, has he finally put the injury woes behind him...? At this point I feel Leon Cameron is the only thing stopping him from going 120-125, but if that role is anything to go by I really think he can do it.
Neale= Nothing else in this price range stands out, probably 15ish-best case 20 points underpriced.
Cripps= speaking of 15-20 points underpriced.... and speaking of 3rd time lucky (Chook). He looks fit, the role is there, the new coach loves contested footy. He's just way too cheap to ignore based on what we've seen over the last month.
Berry = Probably the 2nd biggest lock behind Cogs
Daicos = Think we're talking Walsh rookie year areas of 85ish here. Could genuinely end up D7.
Stephens= Looks stronger, fitter, and the Dawson role has been vacated. Think he's sliding under radar a bit and will end up once of the best rookie picks this year, with non selectors thinking "that was so obvious why didnt I pick him"
Davies = This could be Ward/Rachele/JHF. Have liked what I see from Davies, think he's being groomed as the Greenwood replacement as that 4th mid. Their Rd 23 split they ran last year, with Rowell eating into some more of Fiorinis is what I suspect they'll be running with this year.
M10/M11= Good lord. Got some info from Cats that theyre really keen to get Stephens games early in the year. Otherwise it's probably pray and hope two of Hough/Soligo/MacDonald get named.
RUCK:
Grundy = Hasn't moved since team picker, underpriced
English = Still getting smashed in the ruck, but geez if he plays that sweeping/intercept Gawn role and then gets involved with the link up play he's probably 15-20 points underpriced. Probably only needs to improve 10 points and cover some covid outs in both lines to be a great pick. The other benefit is if Preuss comes into the team and solo rucks or is scoring well, can swing him fwd via J. Hayes when required. Happy to start Preuss at R3, as I feel others may be using a trade bringing him in at some point.
FWD:
Butters = There's no way Ken can run the same 3 plodders through the midfield again after what happened in the prelim final surely...
Weller = Have been big on him all of preseason, was just hoping he didn't go silly in the practice games and end up 20% owned. He took every kickout he was on the ground for, to backup 11 last week. Lukosius is locked fwd, Bowes out, and he's the main man on kickouts. That's all I needed to see, they're not going to concede only 6 behinds every week.
Cogs = Nothing to say.
Gov/Brodie/Xerri= These 3 picks is why I love this game and come back every single year. Brodie is a bit of a FOMO pick and I'd much prefer Coleman or someone else but im concerned about Ralphsmiths JS. Fyfe hopefully a direct swap for Crowdens CBAS. If Gov keeps that role 80-85 is achievable. I'm happy to have a punt on Xerri at 200k, the fact that he's a forward makes it alot more appealing as there's alot easiers route of of the pick if it fails.
Durdin/Hayes= I'll pick the cheapest DPP R/F at F8 thats named Rd 1. God knows who is F7 if Durdin doesn't get named.
