Witts was impressive last night. My concern is GCS early draw:

Rd1. A v WCE (NicNat) Rd2. H v MEL (Gawn) Rd3. A v GWS (Preuss & Flynn) Rd4. H v CAR (Pittonet) Rd5. A v StK (Marshall) Rd6. H v BRIS (Big O) Rd7. A v COL (Grundy) Rd8. A v SYD (Hickey) Rd9. H v FRE (Darcy).

That’s a seriously tough draw for any ruckman !
Stanley was genuinely GFL standard I wouldn't read too much into it

I just dont see how you can pick 4 uber mids and expect to get away with it when theres literally no defence rookies with job security, its just asking for trouble IMO.
Had a quick play. I'm not saying this is a good team but it's definitely not that far out there:

Whitfield, Sicily, Ryan, Hinge, Gibcus, McCartin, SDK, Thompson
Macrae, Steele, Miller, Oliver, Neale, Berry, JHF, Daicos, Ward, Stephens, Hough
McInerney, Witts, Dixon
Martin, Treloar, Butters, Coniglio, Xerri, Rachele, Maginnes, Durdin

Obvious trade off in the rucks, but I didn't even head down the Preuss as R2 path. The mids are absolutely carrying your team.

Seeing a lot of people struggling fitting in mids so figured I'd show my team as I think I've found an ok way of fitting them all in (except Oliver)

Lloyd, Short, Whitfield, Hinge, Gibcus, McCartin / Boyd, SDK
Macrae, Steele, Touk, Neale, Cripps, Berry, JHF, Daicos / Ward, Stephens, MacDonald
Gawn, Grundy / Dixon
Dunkley, Butters, Cogs, Brodie, Rachele, Durdin / Hayes, Martin

Nice. Compared to my fake team, you've dropped Oliver and a forward keeper for the two rucks, which I prefer to be honest.

Trying to find a way to fit Cripps and Rowell in and struggling. Not willing to start Rowell over Macrae/Miller/Neale.

Also not sure if I’m willing to start 3 Def rookies on field. I think you need 4 premos down there unless some rookies pop up
Playing with those exact thoughts in my team.

Unless you sacrifice some uber mids or some cash gen, you have to choose between Rowell and Cripps I reckon.

I've got 3 defensive rookies on the field - Gibcus/Sinn/McCartin. It's allowing me to have Cripps at M5 (with Macrae/Steele/Miller/Neale) rather than Hewett at D4 which I see as the right choice. However if any of those rookies are not named may have to move Cripps down to Berry or a rookie and then one of those 3 rookies up to a mid pricer...

Hopefully we get plenty of those early twitter updates of first gamers being told by the coach a few days before this time next week.

I don’t have Sinn at the moment but if named will be considering. Only problem I see with all theee of Hinge/Gibcus/Sinn is that they could all be out of their respective teams by Rd 4 which will only exacerbate the lack of rookies if fielding three on field. Might be a risk I’m willing to take but at this stage I think I’d prefer to choose 2/3 and then if I get it wrong have the back-up option to trade in.

This is my concern, I genuinely dont think one of those defence rookies is absolutely secure in their side, even McCartin has a guy like Melican who isn't a bad player to stay ahead of, cant trust 3 of them on ground surely.

Mids amazing. But you'd have to be seriously concerned about fwds and backs?

Yeah they are fair points and a fair chance of eventuating as well. Once we see teams it may be Cripps down to Berry to allow for one of the 3 to be upgraded to Milera or a mid-pricer with better JS.

Said plenty of time before but never have we seen a season like this where rookie's will dictate structures due to their higher than average price tags and overall below average JS.

The problem is with Wednesday and Thursday games we might not have the luxury to be waiting to see who gets named for structural decisions.

True - hoping for Monday/Tuesday coach announcements for first gamers.....wishful thinking.

On Sinn:
Port coach Ken Hinkley spoke positively about an early debut for Josh Sinn (AF $268k SC $157k D/M) on afl.com.au. He said: “We don’t mind putting our inexperienced players out there early. He has to earn that and in pre-season he has been playing well. If he doesn’t play Round 1 he’ll be playing early. He’ll be right in the mix.”

On Hinge:
Mitch Hinge (AF $383k SC $180k DEF) spoke to the media this week and looms for a best 22 spot. Hinge said: “For me half-back is my number one position. That suits my game style and athletic ability. I’ll be trying to play on smalls and talls but even up on the wing. The more versatile I am, the more likely I am to get picked.”

On McCartin:
Dean Cox said: “He has worked extremely hard & trained well over the pre-season, which has put him in a position to play both of these games & put his name up for R1. At the minute, you’d have to say he’s close (for R1).”

On Gibcus:
Tigers assistant coach Adam Kingsley was positive about rookie Josh Gibcus (AF $274k SC $171k DEF). Kingsley said: “Certainly Gibcus has come in and seems to have taken that position. We’ll have a discussion and wait on the VFL results but he seems to have taken a position there and is going quite well.”

Yeah, I am not confident that his body will hold up.

"..........2021 season (Berry) was hampered by injury – first a hamstring, followed by a persistent groin issue and then a strained calf......."
At $268k his upside and ceiling is way too great to ignore, will probably make more cash than some of the rookies this year.
