Has there been any indication from WC that Naish comes straight into the 22(23)?
Theyve got a couple coming back in the early rounds that just push Naish straight out for mine, be interested in a WC fans perspective though.
For me I think he probably comes in and plays a fair amount of games if he plays like he did on the weekend.

The role is there... We have struggled to fill that opposite wing to Gaff for a few season now since Masten retired. We tried a few there last year like Brander, Redden & Sheed... but none owned the position. Chesser was the one coming in who looked like he was going to get first crack at it but as we know he's out most if not all of this season.

Naish has good endurance, nice skills and is more an outside player... that fits perfectly with what we need in my opinion to play on the opposite wing to Gaff.

It's a good sign for him that he can fly over on a Thursday after having nothing to do with the club, play a qtr and a half on the Sunday... then by Wednesday be signed up as a listed player.

A rough guess for round 1 :-

Backs :- Nelson Barrass Rotham
Half Backs :- Hurn McGovern Foley
Centres :- Gaff Kelly Petrevski-Seton
Half Fwds :- Petrucelle Dixon Rioli
Fwds :- Jones Kennedy Ryan

Ruck :- Naitanui Redden Shuey (if fit)

Bench :- West, Waterman (is versatile/ play either end or even on a wing at times), Williams, Naish

Sub:- Joyce/Hough

*Not sure on where Duggan is at, pushing for round 1.

*Shuey on the news last night said he was ramping up his training this week, much will depend on how he pulls up for round 1 prospects. If Shuey isn't right to go, Joyce would be the logical replacement I suspect.

*Witherden suspended round 1, would be straight back into the team 2 I expect. That being the case & depending on Duggan's availability, would mean Hough is probably one to avoid.

*No official word on Yeo, when he will be fit - calf injury so probably about 4 weeks but that's just a guess.

So looking at the balance/ what areas the top up players can help in, I think Dixon is the best bet followed by Naish with his run & carry.

Joyce if Shuey has another setback would be next, I just think Hough is too skinny at the moment & has a few in front of him.

Williams really needs to show something to start the year or I could see Strnadica coming in for him - played very well in the WAFL last year & is quite decent playing as a tall fwd target when required.

Yep, would love an explanation on why he is 123K not 102K, makes zero sense to me.
Totally agree.

SSP players go on to the rookie list and if the player hasn’t played a game previously, his price should’ve $102k.

If he was recruited as a delisted free agent and on the main list than fair enough, but he’s still on the rookie list

My perspective is that your assumption that anyone whose spot Naish is taking will return without incident is tremendously optimistic; however, as is the way of things Naish probably gets injured anyway.

This will be an unpopular opinion, but I'd personally cull JHF before Stephens or Ward. Has a worse roll in a rebuilding team and is higher priced. There's a solid argument that Ward could also end up with with a bad role, but it will only take one injury and he should slot straight into the midfield.
I'd be making the cut somewhere else to be honest.

I'd say that JHF, Stephens and Ward are all in the top 7 rookie options this year and it gets pretty meek the second you move past that 7th rookie as well.

SDK right now is the only 123k rookie I'm genuinely expecting to make the round 1 team, there are always a couple of shocks out of nowhere, but right now he's the only one I'd put any money on being there and more than that he's the only one I'd think about betting on being there by round 3.

Agreed. I've got some serious cash sitting on my bench right now. It hurts to look at.

How many games do you think Dixon could play if you had to guess conservatively based on what you know of injured/returning players who could/will push him out?

I am trying to figure out if he can get to 6-7 games.

As many games until Darling is back would be my guess ...
Thanks, Just found out Oscar Allen is also out for the first 4-5 weeks so that plus the Darling situation makes sense.
I really don't want to pick him as I don't think he will score well in a beaten up WC team early on, but it's hard to find a solid F8 at the moment.

West Coast forward Jack Darling has been vaccinated and will be eligible to re-join the team for training this weekend.
The West Australian understands that while the paperwork surrounding the vaccine-reluctant star’s return is yet to be finalised, it remains the one hurdle delaying his return.

That hurdle is likely to be cleared at some point on Friday.

The news means that Darling has satisfied the league’s vaccination mandates which require players and staff to be double vaccinated to be allowed to attend the club and participate in training sessions

Darling has not been able to attend West Coast’s headquarters and has been training alone since the deadline for the first vaccination on January 21.
