Good points you make.

My concern for the immediate, is trying to improve my on field scoring and stay in touch and not so much my rookie bench options...I'm reasonably confident plenty of rookies will present.
Round 1 showed me enough to identify at least a few trades that I reckon would with improve my teams on field score with little chance of downside, except, and it's the big one, loss of trades and that's what I'm agonizing over as established SC lore is decidedly against it.
In the past this may have been true but are we now living in a new reality?
Perhaps one way of thinking about it is how many points you think each trade will add to your side (all other things considered). I use 150 as a benchmark across the season, perhaps more like 180 early on (given that no trade in R22 would have an expected value of 150 - and that early trades have longer to work).

We do have more trades than normal, but only by about 17%. It’s an increase, but not a wholesale change in my view.

The buffer, or number of luxury trades, could be up by a greater % than that, if you don’t think other circumstances (eg Covid) eat into that buffer at all (I think it will somewhat). We should still be looking for a good return on our trades, though, even if we can potentially afford to use a few more on less productive uses.

If you charge your trades out at something like 150 points apiece, I don’t think you’ll go too far wrong.

Dusty to Cripps Heeney or English not real sure yet...Dusty maybe longer than a week.
Depends on your ruck structure but I’d favour English. I’d want another look at Cripps as Richmond were off the boil with Pressure acts last week. And Heeney, well that rubber band is a gunna stretch and you gotta ask yourself if he looks more durable this year? Again a wait and see approach s your best bet.

I need to trade either Ward or Stephens.

It's a shame about Ward's foot as it clouds the picture a bit but Stephens seemed to have a more rounded game for his 59 (16 touches at 50% contested, 4 stoppage clearances, 7 score involvements, a couple of goal assists, a couple of inside 50s). He had 5 clangers (giving away 3 free kicks) and didn't lay a tackle, none of which helped his score. I think with one or two tackles and only one or two clangers it was closer to a 75-80 game.

If the JS is there I feel like Stephens is worth keeping as a slow burn mid bench rookie at the expense of Ward.

Thoughts appreciated.

Why do you need to trade one?

I am normally an advocate for holding trades, especially premiums, maybe next week if a correction is needed. If you missed rookies and you want to keep 2 trades up your sleeve for next week I'd pull the trigger there.
However there is huge amount of value this year. And most of the value are players we all talked about pre season. I don't know what move would be optimal without a crystal ball, however if you want to seriously contend for overall I think you have to make a move and be aggressive. Just holding your Prems won't get you 50k.
I'm strongly considering gawn to english, and Steele to Heeney. Which is like trading away 2 aces for a queen/jack. It's not because I think Steele and gawn won't come good and score well, it's the value from the other 2. I pocket 400k and get 2 forward IMO top 6 forwards. Even if Stef comes back I see english going 100-105 this season, bloke looks stronger and fitter. And Heeney looks mint and so fit.
The 400k wouldn't be blown, I'd be conserving it for upgrade time, which means I can bring in who I want and in some ways more importantly trade out the weaker rookies first.
I have all the right rookies and midpricers are fine.
I wouldn't trade til rd5/6 unless I had to after this and I would rather do these trades this week unless something major happens next week and we are forced to trade elsewhere.
You free up cash but you also have to get Gawn and Steele back at some point more than likely, just never been a fan of trading premiums personally, especially after one bad week.
