Thought he was very lucky to score as well as he did, I had another 3 clangers they didn't give him, 2 of which were in the first half when the game was lost, also a poor miss on his set shot that cooked what was otherwise his clear best play of the day.

He was terrible in the first half, skirted the packs completely, didn't tackle, turned it over with half his touches and then gave away a horrible free kick at the end of the half.

2nd half he got some junk and was better but still was poor with the ball and putting in very little effort defensively.

Was just a terrible game by him, funny to go from playing out of control reckless last week to soft as, no pun intended, butter this week.

Going to be a rollercoaster and the bigger issue outside his poor play today was the role, seems to be the guy that Hinkley has picked as the reason they've lost the last 3 as his role is getting worse by the week, got a bit of a reprieve this week with Wines subbed out meaning he got some midfield time in the 2nd half but there are definitely concerns opening up.
Agree with you Wog though a poor Butters is twice as effective as a good Powell Pepper, in many cases Port are worse off after PP has done his thing with the ball. PP frequently kicks to disadvantage of his team, turns over ball and handballs to players under pressure. When the opportunity exists to handball to a man on the move and opening up the attack he doesn't pass the ball. One of the least effective footballers playing AFL at the moment. I do love his hardness at the ball and the man ( when he isn't taking out his own players) but this is not enough to sustain a key role such as his on ball role at Port.

Still a hard no on trading Butters?
Lol, I've really gotta stop posting advice on here, particularly about individual players. Reckon I'm about 0 from 10 recently.

Yeah, still a hard no for me though. Well, maybe downgrade me from diamond to quartz. I think he'll appreciate the 9-day break.

Was happy to forgive last week with the big hit and obvious discomfort. Not sure how much we can blame that for this week, but it was also just a really weird game.

I really like him as a player and as an SC prospect.

Can't deny he is starting to get in the way a bit in that F4ish spot, with so many good options. But I've made my bed and I'll see it through for now. Annoyingly has the first bye so we can't slingshot him, but maybe he can be pushed to that F7/M9 loop spot with Coniglio, if he doesn't turn it around. We didn't pay much for him so don't think that would be the worst result.

Without trying to sound like a sour Gawn trader, Port's game style was chip and switch it then kick it long allowing Gawn to set up behind play all night, or force a stoppage where they had no chance against him in the ruck (injured lycett/marshall). Not sure I recall a worse coaching performance, Mr Bean would have done a better job.
Here in lies the accountability. KH is a good man manager and communicator. Appears to need quality Assistants to get the best out of the team via game management. Not sure where Port will end up this year but almost makes me glad I am a bombers supporter.

got to feel to Port supporters putting up with ****e from their cross town idiots all year though........

No, keep posting advice @stephen - it was a bit of a petty jab from me!

I agree it was the correct move to keep him. Of course, I will only be remembering the score Green gets this week if it is 120+... ;)

(Bearing in mind that I started following footy in 2003) but I don't think I've ever felt particularly glad to be an Essendon supporter...

Nothing compared to the **** Essendon gets from 8-10 crosstown rivals... but you know what? That's because we are an historically hugely successful club. And this is the worst 15- 20 years in our history. We deserve the **** we're getting at the moment. A bad or good Essendon story sells papers. I just hope I get to see us rise again.

How long did the league bask in Richmond's mediocrity before they finally got it right. It's a ****ing hard gig, and if your not winning, you are ****.

And if you're not winning, there's always got to be a scapegoat...

And with all the respect to the SCS Port supporters, there are various factors that mean I dislike them (in a sporting way) just as much as Carlton and Collingwood and Richmond and etc.

Tribalism...

Port have more issues than PP.

Can losing a Key FWD and Key DEF have this much effect on team structure. Top 4 side to bottom four side in 12 months. Massive from reversal, and in a bad way.

Michael Voss on Gold Coast & Matt Rowell: “We’ve taken a bit of a system approach to be fair. We haven’t paid any specific attention to players outside of what we want in our system and when it’s a different guys’ turn to do it, they do it.”

“If someone in the game is getting off the chain a little bit, then we’ll give it some more attention. Clearly every team has their own strengths, we don’t pour it into one person because that would be ignoring the others.”

Doesn’t sound like Carlton are going to deploy a hard tag on Miller, I suspect Hewett may play a more accountable role but certainly not the double tag tactics that GWS used last week.

Hayes OUT for Ryder

Lolaints
Here we go...

Just my 2c. but if you're looking at a being a better team, it should be the other way around. Hayes is Ryder's unrealised potential.

Ryder was great last week, but at the expense of Hayes this week... nah.

They do have a riches in the tall/ruck type player though. I guess when they got Ryder they needed him.

I strongly its suspect because Ryder is on a big contract and Hanners / Hill / Ryder haven't exactly been value for money.

Ryder will probably get injured with a few games away
