In Robbo’s tackle dislike column :-

6. Lachie Whitfield

The two-time best-and-fairest winner is plodding. His numbers stack up OK, although they are slightly down on last year, but the slicing and dicing in Whitfield’s game has been subdued. So much so, that teammate Isaac Cumming has gone past Whitfield as a rebounding defender. He has more disposals, metres gained and intercepts than his big-name comrade. Whitfield played halfback, wing and half-forward against Melbourne and was hardly a threat.

With NOD looking great/ start on the field worthy & Daicos getting defender eligibility, think I am moving on from him.

His scoring yesterday despite the possessions was the final straw, can’t see him being a top 6 defender this year.

I have Brodie and Rachele in mid.

Rachele and Ward not great picks in hindsight, but not pods so ok.

Durdin and Ward for Preuss and Rosas, Rowell to a premo mid perhaps?

The annoying thing about Whitfield is that he is now priced relatively similar to his current point production and actually isn’t terrible “value” anymore… Personally (and frustratingly), I am holding and looking to upgrade around him

Yep ditto. We've likely missed the opportunity to trade him out now as we're now approaching upgrade season.

Will likely need to hold him too and upgrade around him. If he ever misses a week... that'll be enough for me to pull the trigger though lol.

I’m going to have a quick word with Rowell and Berry to thank them for their service, however they will not be proceeding to the next round of masterchef, what they’ve dished up is not great. I’m pretty sure Berry with his commitment can secure a book deal, not sure I can say the same for Rowell. Between them and Hall’s visit to the knackery following his mid episode walkout, and withdrawal from the bank, there should be some premos dropping in for some masterclass sessions with debutant Rosas.

Thinking Steele and Petracca.
haha...nicely written

Just saying, how good are extra trades?

I know it's a pretty polarising topic but personally, absolutely love the additional trades and activity from coaches as a result.

Those who won't to sit tight can and those who want to trade aggressively can. We won't know which strategy is the winner until the end of the season but extra trades allows both and, more importantly, gives us more differences in teams which is only ever a good thing.

Hope we keep 35 trades (or more) moving forward.

View attachment 42842 View attachment 42843 As you can probably see, this week has shot my season to smithereens, so will be using a trade boost. Grundy to Preuss, Rowell to Macrae and someone to Rosas I think. Use the leftover cash to upgrade to another premium the week after. Need to totally retool my team I think.
You have Rosas, Hayes and Hobbs coming through, with not too many players too move on.

Grundy only had the one bad score, Whitfield looks like more of an issue, although, probably worn some price deflation already. Luke Jackson is more of a question mark and at a minimum move forward.

Now is time to upgrade not sideways.

I think given limited downgrade spots you want to maximise capital release, would be think Sam Hayes over Preuss.

Some options:

If saving trades/money this week, Rowell to Green.

If wanting to be more aggressive:

round 6
Luke Jackson to Preuss (assuming he is back), or go early on SHayes or preferably bring in Rosas and move Dixon to rucks.
Rowell to Macrae
Play Hayes at R2

round 7
Dixon to Sam Hayes round 7, Dixon could be dropped by then or closer to max price at $260k given he is a 60 players.
Round 7 also consider Rachele/Dow to Hobbs.
Daicos back for Gibcus, bring in Oliver.
Sam Hayes is your R2

Then you can sit on Jack Hayes if you prefer waiting to go up on Ryder out times, or chop early.

Ultra aggressive

round 6 - Preuss/Rosas/Rowell for LJackson/Gibcus/Macrae

round 7 SamHayes/Hobbs/Olivier for Dixon/Rachele/Dow/JHayes. Slightly better cash balance into round 8.

Just some alternative thoughts.

I'd be wary of NOD's scoring mate.

Played perhaps the two most non-competitive teams in two weeks, being GWS & the Dons.

He passed the eye test, I agree, but I'm not going all in on him being a lock to field in defense just yet.

Was on 48 at half time, when the margin was still under a goal.

Think he's field-able over Hinge, Gibcus, SDK and Mcartin

Theres a degree of risk there but honestly I don't care, Grundy is giving me the ****s and looks like hes checked out after seeing the cash, can't watch that bloke jog around and put in zero effort any longer, his ruck craft is horrendous he can't get by without dominance around the ground.
Grundy

3rd on HO attended
2nd on HO (beat ROB for HOW)
3rd HTA
equal 1st with English on clearances

on last year looks top be 10% lower on HO/disposals/marks and less goals.

Interestingly Gawn has fallen harder on HO/HTA (seems to be getting sharked more) yet picking up more possessions/marks than last year.

My view.
This is the reason why clubs should not sign players on long term deals.

I know Darcy Moore is a good defender but a 6 year deal at a Reported 900K a year. This takes him though to 32 years of age. Huge risk his last 2 years are injury ridden.
