In the last two years of this competition, not many people have managed to score par or better:

2020: Bomber18, toxic, Ironhawk, KLo30 (4/26)
2021: Rowsus, Juzzo, Crowls, mike89, Ironhawk (5/27)

9 out of 53, or less than 17% at par or better. It's a tough course, so don't be surprised if you have a couple of rough rounds, everyone likely will!

Happy to be the only person to manage par or better both times, but if you look back to 2019 which had a different scoring system, but similar concept, I finished 26th of 27, so I can't claim to be too good at this. Probably been a bit lucky that my good and bad rounds have balanced out in the last two years, and a few of my risky selections have worked, unlike in 2019.

The rules for the practice round will be as follows.
  • Each game is its own entity this week you don't have to play every game.
  • Scoring - Correct bracket Eagle (-2); 1 bracket off Birdie (-1); 2 off Par (-); 3 off Bogey (+1); 4 or more off (+2)
  • Captain - We will trial something different here because simply doubling the captain was more often than not having a negative effect which isn't really the objective. This week the rule will be that the captaincy bonus can only improve your score so your captain score will double for a eagle or birdie but not for bogey or worse. Not sure I love this either but let's see how it goes.
Players and final brackets for the practice round. Note these have changed slightly since the ones I posted yesterday.

I did think about this last year, thinking there were some games I didn't really want to pick a captain in. I actually wouldn't mind that as an option - just choosing not to select a captain at all, and forfeit both the upside and downside that comes with it.

I'll be interested to see how an only-upside captain goes too though.

Next two days are super busy for me, so only entered game 1 at this stage, hoping I get time late Friday for the rest.

I always seem to be having to look up certain players I haven't even considered all season to get an idea what they might score. Couple in that first match already.

Not sure I like the captain change, I liked the punishment aspect for a bad pick, but we'll see how it goes.

If you're too busy too look up past scoring trends I'd just say trust your gut mate, that's what I'm doing.

I know that scoring variability is relevant but just note that the brackets above are defined around a players average for this year as follows.
  1. <70%
  2. 70% to 80%
  3. 80% to 90%
  4. 90% to 97.5%
  5. 97.5% to 102.5%
  6. 102.5% to 110%
  7. 110% to 120%
  8. 120% to 130%
  9. 130%>
Note this isn’t necessarily what will be used for the finals. The practice round will inform this to some extent.

All tips are in

Golf is hard

Think I prefer the old captain rule (punish the bad shot)

Thanks again for organising and running

Tips are in as well but what happens if a player on the list is an omission from the selected team for example Aaron Hall for Nth Mel.

The big bird would be a great result but has an air of extinction…. Sorry I was thinking of a Dodo and that’s not even close to par.

For the finals comp an emergency will be included for each team that is only used if a nominated player misses.

I will have a look shortly to see if I can switch out Hall for someone else for this round.
