Thunder haven't got enough runs on the board
I think their batting order is one of the weakest in the comp - heavy reliance on Hales & Rossouw to go big.

They literally have Hales, Rossouw, Davies & Ross as 4 quality bats with Sangha now injured.

Sams is just a big hitting slogger to finish an innings & Gilkes.... well I don't get how he gets a game over Whiteman but thats another story.

If you get Hales early there is a fair chance you run right through this batting order (as we saw the other night) as Rossouw blows very hot & cold - very suspect.

Round 1: 1182 with 1 innings to go in a Strikers v Thunder game and 8 in play including captain - finished on 1187.

Round 2: 1183 with 1 innings to go in a Strikers v Thunder game and 5 in play excluding captain - finished on ?

Not sure I want to watch.
At least if it’s reversed and the strikers get rolled for stuff all you’ll get points. Unfortunately I don’t see the Thunder taking more than 3 wickets on this pitch.

It’s hard to fathom why Sams bats at 5.

It’s probably more, but it feels like he’s come off about 3 times in his BBL career.

I understand it in this sort of scenario when he comes in in the 16th over. I don’t get it when the Thunder are 3/30.
the trend amongst average/poor t20 sides is failing to plan for the bad day. all they think is if hales/gilkes/sangha/roussow pay off sams only needs to face 3 or 4 balls. shame t20 is a fickle game and players really only pay off one in four

Yeah, he batted at 5 last year with a string of scores <10 and a couple of 20-odd thrown in BUT in the middle of all those he had a 98no off 44 batting at 4.
Given that in his other 11 innings he scored 93 runs .....

I should add that although I'm not a big fan of Sams as a cricketer I do think he deserves his place because of his bowling.
He gets wickets, however undeserved/lucky they may be: BBL 11 - 19 in 15 inn; BBL 10 - 11 in 9 inn; BBL 9 - 30 in 17inn; BBL 8 - 15 in 13 inn

The thing that stu*** the Thunder up is the fact we didn’t retain billings. Means we have to select a sub par batsman/keeper in the team.

I really wish we could slot Cutting in the opener position with Hales, but it won’t happen without a competent keeper selection.

Then you’d have Rossouw 3, Ross and Davies at 4/5 (situation dependent), your keeper at 6 and then Sams at 7 which is where he really should be.

I distinctly remember that innings. He also went off late in a game 2 seasons ago (guessing) when the Thunder looked like they were dead from memory, or maybe I'm giving him credit for a Cutting innings, I don't know.

I rate him a poor bat, and yet he bats at 5 regardless of game scenario. No wonder the Thunder look brittle. It's baffling. That's just my opinion.

Now that would be a far better batting lineup - Billings is a huge loss no doubt

Has Holt had enough of a crack? Can he bat? Don't know a lot about him to be honest, know he's played a few games.

May as well open Rossouw and Hales, and slot Cutting in for death hitting.

Just think they need to do something. Agree Billings is a huge loss to the middle order.

Open with Davies and put Gilkes down to 7. Ross can bat 4.
