Is there anyone else that is a little questionable on Taranto?
Richmond game plan doesn’t really deliver big scoring mids. He didn’t really wow me last year. I kind of feel I need to have him though considering everyone else will and if he does go well I’ll be behind. But I’m not sold yet?
Not particularly. His durability is by far my biggest concern. When he's played midfield he's scored because he tackles and wins the ball, not really a game style thing that will restrict him.
If his role is terrible preseason it might change but they went after him for a reason, their midfield last year was terrible outside Prestia and some flashes from Short and Cotchin.
Realistically he needs to average about 98, while that's the unideal F6 filler level I think he can push towards 105 if his body holds up and the role is there which would be a solid F4 level barring huge DPP additions.
I do have him behind Dunkley and Rozee and in a battle with Coniglio who I'll prefer if roles are similar as both are fairly equally underpriced, equally terrible on durability and Coniglio is juts a far better player with higher upside if they stay fit.
How much was it Richmonds game plan holding their mids back versus the fact that their midfield was just very very average? I'd like to think now they have Hopper and Taranto they can win the first possession and score well.
I think you've nailed this. Their mids that are quality have scored just fine over the years. Prestia has basically been a 100 guy when he's fit, he's just rarely fit. Martin was 100+ for the best part of a decade with some huge seasons. Cotchin was basically 100+ for 7 years with a couple of big seasons.
Heck, Short wasn't even very good last year and he put up 96 as a midfielder.
I don't think Taranto or Hopper are nearly as good as those 3 are but they're young and hungry and will hunt for points. If either of them have been taught how to dispose of the ball to teammates then they could absolutely push 110 ranges and while I doubt that, neither really needs to go that far.
