Does the X vs Y stack up with some of these players.

You swap a def premium (with some question marks) for a mid premium (who have mixed runs) and a decent mid/fwd rookie for sub standard def rookie.

Goater would be fine, Stocker too, if they play which has questions. Same with Weddle per Goodie. Cole history just doesn't support he will make much money and could give poor scores if on field (which at his price you probably want).

Weddle and Stocker play on the Sunday and wet also have sub risk now. I will be happy if Yeo is my D3 rather than D4, not prepared to have a mock team with more aggressive stance than this as it is those last swaps into round 1 which can undo us.
Rookies always dictate structure but if we go too hard on that there's really no point discussing anything at this point.

I've got a desired structure and now I hope the rookies exist to pull it off but I'm always flexible and have contingencies for if it doesn't happen.

Plus the original post was more throwing a few more names at the whiteboard rather than saying any are particularly good options.

Ultimately though, if I've got a bad option down back or a bad option in the MID/FWD this year I'm going to take the one down back because the premium options at the MID/FWD look so much clearer to me than the backs right now.

Still developing. A lot of faith being put into emerging defenders like Daicos and Young, very risky.

I'm struggling to find balance in the team this season. Trying to negotiate the sub early also might be challenging finding that balance of rookies to field.

Obvious exclusion Hopper. He's in and out. I like Callaghan this season also but that line has some movement. Titch is a watch also, I'm fence sitting there, I think there's a real possibility he starts racking up 30+ touches a game and becomes damaging. Would really like Docherty and Dawson or at least one to underpin the backline. Still think Cogs is a better pick then both Rozee and Taranto but can't fit him in.

Coffield will probably start to find his way into a few teams.

Have 120k in the bank to upgrade a couple 117k rookies to 170k if required.

A few XvY’s at this stage are:
Redman v Daicos. Will watch Redmans role very closely over the preseason. Daicos’s ownership is so big I’m already thinking about bringing him in defensively as we all know this kid is a serious talent.

Not many games early at GMHBA for Stewart and maybe with Williams injured Doch is back down back? Sicily also high on the radar - no need to point out why.

Been set on my mid premos for a bit now. I love Lairds low(ish) ownership & not many teams in his early draw tag. Could punch out a few big ones early.
Another XvY is LDU v Green and even though my north hat is screaming LDU think Green has a clearer role with less midfield competition.

Rucks could go either way. Set on English if he makes it through preseason and will watch Marshall’s role in the preseason. Also want to watch Darcy’s ruck split and could even go Witts to avoid the trouble.

No Taranto or Dunkley in the forwards are the big risk but at this stage happy to go in with Ziebell at F3 with confirmation he’s down back. Could go him down to Fyfe or shuffle to get up to Taranto. Not as bullish on Dunkley in a stacked Brisbane midfield as others. Every chance I’m wrong but happy to bet against at this stage.
Keen for some thoughts 😊

thanks for sharing….think you could be too heavy in the mids and may miss points in defense and forward…

if Redman fails to fire your behind the 8 ball…

could use your 120k in the bank to get a Sicily type in defense and move Ginbey into the mids?
good to see some different structures though…

I think Dunkley is a must have, pretty close to first picked in any serious supercoach team.

Thanks for the suggestions - can definitely drop a mid and bring in Dunkley. At this stage I do like the 2-1-3 def and think this is where most the rookies are. Gibney up into the mids is something I haven’t considered!

Not too keen on the light on backline. Currently Stewart, Young, Daicos, Yeo, Wilmot, Ginbey, McKenna, Weedle matched with the fwds of Dunkley, Rozee, Fyfe, Allen, McLean, JVR, Greene, Drury. Just looks a better balance to me. Still 40k to play with rookies. 2c

I don't think Wilmot will play will he? And he's one I'm a little worried to start on field.

Have you considered Cogs and Allen for Rozee and Taranto?...would allow you to beef up one in the mids and one in defence if desired.

Looked at a GnR side (no one priced between Allen & Daicos)

Young , Rioli , Daicos , Ginbey * , McKenna , Burgess * / Michalanney , Weddle

BONT , MACRAE , BRAYSHAW , CRIPPS , STEELE , Ashcroft , Mackenzie , McLean * / Bytel , Phillips , Baker

GRUNDY , MARSHALL / Madden *

DUNKLEY * , ROZEE * , TARANTO * , Allen , Daniels , King / Pedlar , van Rooyen

Bank : $ 19,900.00

Who knows about the rookies , could tweak a few of them.

10 premiums
3 speculative picks in defence
9 onfield rookies to be upgraded

Lacks any of the Big 5 midfielders

Interesting though :-

* Daicos - > Yeo (mid pricer)
* Steele - > Hopper/Fyfe (mid pricer)

Probably gets 2 of the $ 600k defenders and 3 of the Big 5 mids (holding Bont)

I just think if youre going to go a low starting premium amount you need to have at least some of the best of the best, lot of hope in this sort of side, if Young,Daicos,Rioli aren't keepers and Steele,Macrae,Brayshaw,Cripps arent getting close to the top line of Laird,Oliver,Miller,Neale I just think you'd be losing points on the comp every week plus have a mountain to climb to complete your side without mid pricers facilitating easier upgrades.

Exactly

Swap Daicos & Steele out and it suddenly becomes :-

DOCHERTY , DAWSON , Yeo

LAIRD , OLIVER , NEALE , BONT , Hopper

Bank has increased to $ 48,300.00

Still has 9 onfield starting rookies though which seems 2-3 too many , keep tweaking

I probably wouldn't class that as a GnR side. Guns need to be outright guns in their positions. Dunkley, Laird, Neale, Oliver, Miller etc. They're guys barring injury that are walk up top 6-8 on their line.

The more I look at it , it is a pretty ordinary looking effort 😀

Maybe we need to have a balance of premiums , mid pricers & rookies to get a better starting balance

Yet I keep reading midpricers don't work 😉

Just need to find and start the right ones I guess.

Back to my Jones , Coffield , Marchbank , Francis , Goater defence structural planning team.

Whats the right mix rookie wise is always the question, there's enough on paper but how many are definitely holding down best 22 and scoring sufficently? Most of the good ones appearing to be north of 150K isn't ideal either, one bad game and cash gen is hitting some serious road blocks this year.
