Anyone have any interest in Hunter Clarke or Liam Stocker?
Clark stays fit 90+ isn't beyond him, pretty big if but gotta watch how he gets through the rest of the pre season, Stocker I think is borderline best 22 and have question marks on both genuine ability and the role he will play (lock down defender for 214K is disgusting), pass from me.

Beggars belief that these coaches want to take defenders (Himmelberg) who have an elite one wood at intercept marking 3rd man up and "add versatility" to their game by stopping them from what they do best.
I'm convinced that if you sent a modern coach back to the 80s, they'd have played Plugger somewhere else because he wasn't versatile enough...

Himmel is amazing because he's barely an AFL level forward and he was genuinely AA level in defense. Especially when you've got Hogan, used the #1 pick on a KPF and have Riccardi who can be a barely AFL level forward instead. Throw in the list of KPD that could be throw forward to offer similar levels of ineffectiveness.

Sicily fits in the same vein, you've got pretty much the best 3rd tall defender in the league who is an elite intercept mark and elite ball user, why mess with it, to be fair, I don't expect they will as Mitchell is one of the few coaches I've actually put some trust in so far for not doing stupid things.

its amazing that every year they bring players into the system and go about reinventing that player to suit a need that the club requires! Versatility is a strange word, it seems imply it offers flexibility to the coach and the team. Yet depreives the player of their best quality that the club saw in the first place when bringing them to the club.
I mean it does/has come off providing you are utilising their current skill set, but forcibly changing a players natural playing style to suit an outcome for the club isn’t the way to achieve it! Use the skill set the player has for the best outcome. Some players just can’t play defence and vice versa.

Imagine sending Plugger to full back for a season to understand how to be better defensively! Haha a steam train is gonna steam train thru whatever stands in his way! 😂

I actually don't mind Himmelberg playing forward. I have faith in coaching teams, they certainly know more about there playing group and game than I would. And on the + side, he plays forward, drops a heap of coin, GWS get an injury later in the season and he swings back to the intercept role. Just grab him then? It's one less decision I need to make in the pre-season so I welcome it.

In fairness, Himmelberg doesn't want to play defence, similar to Logue not wainting to play forward at Freo last year (and I'm sure countless other examples)

Obviously what's best for the team would override player positional preferences, but I'll disagree with the majority that it's clear and obvious where Himmelberg should play. Playing him in defence hurts Cumming (and Haynes etc) whereas I assume he'll hold out one of Cadman/Riccardi in the forward line until they are ready to go, which is probably best for the team.

All that being said, I'm surprised Himmelberg doesn't want to play defence after his good form there, but he said himself he'd rather play forward.

I've never took much credence into the Himmelberg is a **** forward angle to be honest, this is a guy that kicked 38.12 as a third tall behind Cameron and Finlayson as a 23 year old, he's hardly a hack up there.

Their forward line didnt function last year and they have plenty of defenders, really isnt that surprising they are going to use him forward again.
