Because he's not their only viable ruck. He's arguably not even a better ruck than Campbell and Heath is also pretty ready for AFL games and both are pure rucks.

Marshall is much better than either around the ground but he's also a hell of a lot better as a forward and they were using Mitch Owens as a KPF and it flat out wasn't working.

Basically Marshall forward does make a lot of sense, I don't think he will, Lyons has always valued the ruck (albeit the actual ruck not around the ground skills) and I think Marshall wants to play ruck and keeping one of your only elite talents happy is important.

I don't think anyone is really fading him, he's a mediocre pick in a field of bad picks, there's definitely very good and valid cases to not take him just as there are some good cases to take him. If people value durability, he ranks very poorly, proven scoring history he's also weak, job security he's in the middle. Different coaches focus on different priorities. Marshall only made the first draft of mine last weekend for example because he fails badly on durability which given I don't want to use trades on the rucks is a genuine issue.

I'd be more worried by anyone who has locked any ruck in at this point than someone who isn't sure, if you've locked any of these rucks I'd question your selection criteria and what is missing from it that you are at that spot because I can't see anything resembling locks. Dunkley is the only absolute lock I see right now, Yeo is if he stays fit. I'd say right now everyone else should still be on the probable list.
I was under the impression that Campbell was injured, and maybe borderline better at rucking in some areas but worse in others than Marshall, but even if he is a poorer ruck, he's obviously a threat if he's fit.

Heath I just thought wasn't quite ready.

I've locked in my rucks (pool of 3, I'm not insane) basically from the start because every single one will probably have some calamity occur to them, so might as well not stress and waste time and trust that it will equal out in the end.

Campbell was going to play in the practice game just gone, but pulled out late for personal reasons. I can't remember exactly what it was.

With Hickey out round 1, Witts v McAndrew .... his charmed run v 1st choice rucks being injured from last year continues
Is Ladhams out as well ?

I read about Hickey.

Won't they just use Reid to support Ladhams (if playing) ?

Think I read somewhere Amartey & McLean are injured as well.

Franklin , Ladhams , McAndrew , McDonald & Reid seems 1 too many.

Might be a fun ruck line if we get all of Heath , McAndrew , Ratugolea & Teakle all named Round 1 😀

Ladhams should play but managing knee tendonitis which is a worry for the swans

I expect Sam Reid is our 2nd ruck if he's fit (he is now but there's a couple of weeks until the season so...), he was exceptional in that role last year.

Ladhams if he's fit would be ahead of McAndrew. Both are place holding for Hickey, if Ladhams dominated he could maybe hold the spot or move to 2nd ruck but he failed really badly at that last year.

Still hard for McAndrew for mine and don't think he's anything more than an R3 option so really doesn't change anything in the ruck equation.

Jackson will be a great ruckman when he gets the chance as number 1.

Would have been better for him to go to WCE and learn off Nic Nat for a year then take the number 1 role next year. Will be wasted at Freo with Darcy who is very good and still young.

I would of loved him at WCE… would of been the perfect successor to NN 😞

His athleticism is just off the charts, scary talent.

Oh I get it. So as an example Reilly O'Brien attended 21 centre bounce attendances out of 24 total centre bounce attendances to give him a percentage of 87.5% centre bounce attendance attendances.

This McAndrew fellow gives food for thought
Yeah, don't know what the issue with Hickey is.
