I'd love to take Laird; his scoring consistency and ability isn't the question; but for me; it's either Laird or Oliver and Oliver wins by virtue of having the weight of numbers behind him; 6 straight seasons 109+ average; 1 game missed in that time; and 3 seasons to 1 with a 120+ average compared with Laird.
So Oliver due for a few missed games then this season. ;)

Did the Windhager injury look bad enough that Bytel might get a good stint in the run with role?
the Saints' afternoon was soured by a broken hand for midfielder Marcus Windhager, who ended the game with his right arm in a sling and hand bandaged after being sidelined in the opening moments of the first quarter. The Saints later confirmed the 19-year-old would undergo surgery on Saturday for a broken metacarpal in his right hand, but hoped he would be fit for round one.

It's why you have to leave that 100k spare

Look. Chances are you won't nail every premo and rookie. Add some MPM and you're right. Too much to solve in one week

So you bank yourself half a trade or so (100 k) by not spending it all at the start and it gives you extra choice at round 3 when you've a little more info. You also save a trade.

Takes discipline though. We are all like 10 year olds at the milkbar with a fresh crispy tenner to burn at the start of the year. Gotta learn to not spend it all at once
I have always wondered if leaving funds in the kitty to help with early trading should be something I’m doing as part of my strategy. Very curious to see how many people do this and if it’s something you pre plan for each year?

I do this most years, and would recommend it. I usually aim for somewhere around $120k, but obviously it depends on circumstances.

We often tend to think we’ve optimized our starting side, but realistically that’s never quite the case. Correction trades at round 3 are the most important of the year, and having flexibility with some cash in the bank can be extremely beneficial when you’re making those.

Don't think he needs mass cbas to be a genuine option, a decent increase would be enough for him, a bit like Butters in that regard.
This. Would an increased centre bounce attendance rate help or hurt his kick to handball ratio and disposal/kicking efficiency? Unless there are plenty of repeat stoppages in that same area of the ground after a ball-up, there is time in between for Gulden to link up around the ground or for a midfielder starting in the centre bounce to roll forward and switch with Gulden, etc.

Now I haven't watched any games or read much, but if a guy like Gulden puts up numbers like that regardless of it being preseason or not, the coaching group will notice.
Remember Horse is the guy that had Tom Mitchell racking up 55 touches in the reserves for 2 years forcing him to leave for opportunity, then he wins a brownlow!

I could make a team of 16 $500k players and claim I have 16 premiums, but it's not really a fair description of my team is it? As I said, I don't think there's anything wrong with differentiating between players like Sinclair and Daicos who are quite clearly different selections in terms of risk and expectations. But if you think they both deserve to have the same "premium" label then fair enough.
I don’t think you could do 16 $500k players. That’s $8m leaving only $2m for 12 bench spots.
Sinclair v Daicos? No different if you go Sinclair/Green v Daicos/Parish. It’s subjective labels based on your existing assessment of what they will do this year.
The labels are subjective, prices are objective but as I said at the start anyone picking daicos at $500k views him as a premium otherwise why pick him? Not a premium you want to pick and that’s fine. But you not liking him does stop him being a premium.

I think it should be noted that Gulden was playing a mid forward role last night. Yes he had a decent chunk of CBAs but he also spent a decent amount of time forward and kicked the three goals. The heat map above bears that out. Scoring what he did in those circumstances makes it a lot easier to pick him.

Yet both Swans and Hawks fans used him as a whipping boy when he finally plays 🤷

Has anyone thought of going light with premos in the midfield? Running with 2 and a green. And the rest with rookies and a couple of mid pricers. Thats where most the value lies. Spend more in the defence and forwards where we need to field less rookies?
