What if the great Voss goes Newman instead?
Was Newman in doubt for round 1 anyway?

I'd have had Doch, Saad, Weitering, Young and Newman as the locks, with McGovern a lock if fit. Which leaves Marchbank/Cowan/Cincotta/Plowman for that 7th spot, possibly with an 8th spot if the Doch midfield time is to be planned for, would think that both Cowan and Cincotta would be better options for the 8th spot if going that way as they could play other positions, Plowman can't even play the positions he gets picked in and Marchbank hasn't really shown anything elsewhere either.

FWIW Plowman/Marchbank would cover McGovern if he's out most likely.

Newman played every game until season ending surgery last year, didn't really think his spot was up for discussion when factoring on the kids.

Newman is clearly best 22, but not playing last game was strange. Maybe they just wanted a look at both Cowan and Cincotta and had Newman already locked in, no injury I have heard.

Not sure we will play both McGovern and Marchbank but have before. Marchbank is a talent just never had enough games to prove that.

Doch will play most time in defence now with Williams going down with a bit of pitch hitting in midfield and even then drop back and play that spare in defence dont think his role will effect team selection much.

In short Cowan or Cincotta could start round 1 but one bad game gone, in saying that good games will keep their position. Will be hard not to select them in SC if named first game but I will try to resist.

I'm probably going to avoid them, they're the easiest correction trades to get in and the hardest to get out. That way I get two games to see if they're needed. I have big fears that they play musical chairs for that spot with Marchbank probably also and it could just come down to matchups, they're basically 3 different sizes/style of players so could easily see it being a horses for courses thing.

I’m on the Gawn train. He’s such a well rounded player and will get his share of contested marks, goals and intercept marks plus his share of ruck duties.
At risk of sounding silly, I think he is genuine overs at $101 for the brownlow.
Good call on the brownlow, I put some money on the Bont.

Put a $50 on Cripps this time last year after his form in the preseason game.

Strong chance the infamous Samson Ryan (for his premature deficit debut) is a strong chance for the opening game this season. If named would anyone be tempted? Many Richmond fans are bullish on him long term and want to see him given a shot

Agreed. I saw that too and had to put a tenner on. 100/1! He could rip the comp apart this year, running around plucking grabs for fun.

He smells so much like a one or two round wonder if he gets named. I'd consider a sideways corrective trade to him in Round 3 if he pans out but I see no reason to have him in my starting team.

I can just see I’m going to start Gawn - he was such an imposing presence wherever he was in that piracy game. It’s not often you can get at under 10% ownership. Paying overs - maybe.
Give Gawn an eye patch, a parrot on his shoulder, and a big broad rimmed black hat, and he really does look like a pirate!!!

Yes, after watching the game he is on the bench. Played the last qaurter and was close to best on ground. Can definetly hold down a FWD spot and be usefull as ruck rotation.

Covers the ground well and would be an improvement on Soldo who belongs down back.

Now, no talk about Ladhams, WOW what a game. Got a bit bang up. Poke in the eye at the first bounce smashed across the jaw in the second Qaurter, minor shoulder stinger from tackle.

59% TOG and 91 sc points

I have seen reports Hickey will miss the first few weeks...

Anyone else Tempted.
