with 51K spare in the bank is it worth spendiing 21K to start MacAndrew over Madden in the hope he gets a call up at some stage ? (given Ladhams will be playing with knee tendinitis)
I wouldn't do it, I dont think McAndrew is even the next in line really depending on the availability of other players, McLean and Amartey still building into full fitness after pre season issues, can easily see them going a Reid and McLean/Amartey combo and just rotating them between Forward and Ruck, especially if the opposition has a mobile Ruckman.

Dees only played the 23 players in the game on the weekend.

Chandler 78% TOG.

You’d think Laurie (56%) and Woewodin (21%) fall out first.
Correct.

Viney and Fritsch in for those two if fit. The rest of the team picks itself. Salem likely to replace McVee once fit.

Sub to be one of McVee, Chandler or Harmes in my view.

Was thinking that with Fritsch back he's not best 22 though, played like he was best 22 last game. Fritsch, Kosi and Sprago seems like all the smalls you could start in one forward line that also has Brown, TMAC and often Gawn/Grundy. Sub role?

I any case I don't know about picking Chandler, Greene and Davey if they're all named, prefer the latter two due to job security and picking three small (ish) forwards seems like trouble to me. Chandler was able get some decent disposals up the ground in the VFL but don't think his role will be like that in your AFL side.

Fritsch is more of a medium forward who plays tall.

Definitely room for all of Chandler, Koz and Spargo in the 22. It’s just a matter of whether Chandler is the sub though. I am actually hopeful it’s Harmes who can play a variety of roles when he comes on.

Played a great game, but I think he is a placeholder for Fritsch

Yep, I did forget that Viney missed.

Will be interesting.

That makes sense, I guess the worry then is more a lack of job security without great scoring prospects. Wrote in my other post that his VFL role seems to be different to the one he will play in the AFL, given his disposal counts I assume he was playing some time at half forward at Casey?

There isn’t really anybody nipping at his heels in the VFL. Laurie is probably the closest thing but he looks miles off at the moment. Chandler was contending with Bedford at times for a spot in the 22 last season which obviously isn’t an issue anymore with Bedford at the Giants.

Yeah, he probably played a bit more up the ground in the VFL at half forward but also deep as a small forward at times. Just able to find a lot more of the ball against VFL opponents too. I think there’s a spot for him in the 23 each week, hopefully it’s not as starting sub though for those who pick him in SC.

He’s my current F8 fwiw as I prefer his JS to Sturt’s.

Sounds like we’ll get at least one of Cincotta or Cowan in R1. Ideally one gets a gig for 5 rnds before the other gets a crack!

Any thoughts on who the best “floating donut to play” might be? I was thinking maybe C Wagner?

I am wondering whether to put Esava at R3 and run a D/M donut instead (which can open up rookie loops in the Def and Mid slots as well)
Why not start with both, Def Cowan in Def and D/M Cincotta in Mid?
Whoever is playing will be the Cash Cow and the other one will be the Floating Donut.
In the first 8 rounds, ESS have late games (except Rd3 Sat 7.25pm and Rd5 Sat 4.10pm).

Thanks for the info mate. I might end up picking him but my main concern with Davey and Greene in my side already is I’m picking too many small forwards who have a hard time making money (especially because a couple bad games can freeze cash gen). I think the other two are a smaller risk of being a sub or missing games which is why I’m preferring them.

Ratuglea is one I just can’t make a call on. Don’t really rate him with scoring or JS at his price but as a R/F is important for those one week outs. Then is he R3 or F7 with donut R3.

I’m not a fan of the starting donut as one normally come fast enough but a captain loophole can make lots of points early.
I’m just praying he’s not in the side come round 1, makes the decision much easier.

Is Sturt from Freo just a placeholder for someone like Jackson? Anyone else they're missing?

Reckon planning for FD's is fraught... The ruck is where I'd look.

How many times have we seen players picked for Round 1 and dropped for Round 2. The triangular Forward / Ruck is the best bet I reckon FD is the way I'd go. But I feel a bit silly giving you advice, dude.

I'm not sure if it's lockdown related and not many great kids coming through, or that the pool of mature age rookies has been exhausted in recent years, but this is the worst year for rookies in a long time.
You not play last year?

There were like 4 defender rookies total, the 2nd best rookie a lot had to trade in round 2/3 because he only became that after an injury in round one, the 3rd best rookie was out with an ACL before he could do much and most didn't even get his good score.

Even the "good" rookies in JHF, Ward and Stephens were a mess.

What we had last year, similar to this year, was a ton of 200k+ guys to pick from. I can't see anything close to the Brodie/Curnow/Coniglio trio this year but who knows.

Shiels has said that he has come in on the expectation that he’ll be nothing much more than a sub, and a break glass in case of emergency in terms of senior footy.

Howe, if fit, is one that I reckon can definitely find his way ahead of one or two that are there or thereabouts the 20-26 on the list range.
I'd bet good money that Shiels plays wing round 1 and for a while, Clarko will want to win early as he's under a lot more pressure than the average new coach would be to win at a side that just won the spoon.

Their side is going to be very interesting, I reckon it's just about the hardest to pick right now, we'll see how committed Clarko is to winning now or rebuilding come round 1 though, there's so many choices that make clear statements on that position.

Would love some advice. I'm struggling to figure out how to get Constable on-field. Current lines are:

Docherty, Dawson, Yeo, Bowes, Jones, Ginbey (Wilmot, Constable)
Laird, Bontempelli, Green, Hopper, Worpel, Callaghan, Ashcroft, Mackenzie (Phillips, Baker, Cincotta)
Darcy, Marshall (Madden)
Dunkley, Rozee, Taranto, Gulden, Flanders, Ratugolea (Greene, Davey)

It definitely doesn't seem worth putting Ginbey or Mackenzie on the bench, so I suppose the question is:
(a) should I downgrade a mid-pricer / expensive rookie to a cheaper rookie (to justify putting Constable at D6 / M8)?
OR
(b) leave Constable on the bench?

Thanks in advance.
