The problem is that, on form to date, Riccardi isn't actually that great - especially compared to Riewoldt or Lynch. He can mark and goal, which is valuable, but mainly shown it against lesser defensive options. I'd expect him to potentially get dropped for Cadman if he gets off to a slow start too.

He was in my team for a long while until his injury news - if played around the contest (by far his best position with his burst, clean hands, and a decent tackle), he's a sneaky 80 average IMO. If played up forward (where he has the goal sense of a potato and his other strengths don't matter as much) I wouldn't go near him ever. However I've adopted the common "no preseason, no selection" motto so he ain't coming in now.
Agree, that his current form hasn't been great, but it’s all about opportunity. This will be his 4th year, the only competition he has is Hogan and Himmelberg, Cadman is a 1st year player who may be eased into the season. So he'll potentially be getting the 3rd best defender. If and When Cadman is ready, might see Himmelberg move to defence again? I expect the game style under Kingsley will be too look for your marking forwards. If it doesn't turn out for me, then it's an easy downgrade to a rookie. Happy to give it a go.

I think he plays the exact same role he played in the practice matches. They are lacking a big body in the midfield that tackles and wins contested ball, thats where he plays imo. Essendon has enough wingers.
He only played inside mid for the first half in their game against St Kilda, in the second half he was purely on a wing, didn't attend a single cba. Which one of Parish, Merrett and Shiel does he replace in their core midfield group at centre bounces?

All good. He can get ~95 average of 50% CBAs
From 2020 he went at 97 ppg in 13 games where he had >50% cbas (average of 58.5% cbas). Eight of those games were in 2020 however where scoring was out of whack, he went at 107.4 in those games (58.6% cbas). In the other 5 games from 2021 onwards, he went at 80.4 (@ 58.4%). What the true average is, I don't know but 90 is not out of the question but he does need consistent inside minutes.

Any WC supporters have any info on Tom Cole, looking for back rookies that will play each week.
Is he guaranteed to be in the starting 22 each week? Who else is he competing with.

Cole I think should be a lock in the 22 each week.
In the past he has played on the most dangerous small fwd of the opposition- he is probably our best option to perform a defensive type role however he has been used on a wing occasionally in the preseason so maybe there are looking at expanding his role & adding some versatility.
Certainly a solid option in my opinion, just not sure on how well he will score/ role dependant.

I'm picking Cole as my bench coverage option as I think he is best 22 for Eagles. I think he plays every week and should average 55-65 which I'll take as coverage for a late out.

Tanner Bruhn looks a lock for round 1, midfield role

This guy has been in & out of my team, so hard getting a proper read on the strong cats team but this news with round 1 now so close makes him hard to resist…
Yeah, might flip Riccardi to Bruhn if he's in. But, how long will he be in the side for is the million dollar question.

That’s the thing - I can see a lot of rotation going on at the cats/ the inevitable late changes due to players having niggles & not having quite enough time to recover between games so no point in risking them with the depth the cats have at their disposal.

I still think he's got an opportunity to impress a new coach who has no bias to any player yet, just get the job done, would be Ross's mantra. Bytel brings a hardness and tackles really well, so hope he can cement a spot if not mid, up forward taking the Billings role maybe.
Would really love to see Bytel cement a spot. Got the one year extension so it's now or never for him. His Calder Cannons numbers had ball pig written all over them but he's just never taken the next step at AFL level. He's like the forgotten Jack at St.Kilda.

As much as Ross would love his player type, Windhager and Owens appear to have gone past him on that front.
