Giving Laird another chance to show up, he just looked off always seemed to be second to the ball, was down on kicks, marks and tackles

OUT : Josh Kelly - I need to be brutal this week to get back on track.
IN : Cam Mackenzie - Must have rookie that I didn't have the space for. Has a safe role and plays it well.

OUT : Nat Fyfe - Only saw the second half but did nothing to impress.
IN : Jason Horne-Francis - Plenty of time spent in the guts and used the ball well.

OUT : Liam Jones - Experiment failed.
IN : Nick Daicos - Was in my squad for most of the pre season, Time to come back in.

I could go for a more expensive defender but these trades leave me enough money to move Flanders to Ziebell in one trade if required next week, and I think that move will be on the cards.

You would know best as a Dees supporter? As an outsider, his delivery into the forward line was superb, I can't see how the Dees give up on that given they are rolling with a resting ruck in the forward line as their structure. He's one of the best kicks you have in the 22, I reckon the selection committee will do everything to try and keep him in the team.
Don't get me wrong I love the kid .He is one of those that walks into 17 other clubs but the dees have 2 talls <Brown and Tom mac a medium in Fritsch Pickett ,the small forward plus neale -bullen and spargo as the high forwards Harmes is the forward bench He remains behind these

Caminiti to Sheezel for me.

A lot of other appealing options but think I'll hold fire for now. Fyfe to JHF calls the siren song but need to see both one more time. Phillips might be necessary as well. And maybe Chandler, though I've been burnt so many times before with that kind of trade.

Disagree that Chandler remains behind Harmes.

It's a close call between Harmes and Chandler for the 22nd spot when we have a fully fit list and I'd argue Chandler has gone past Harmes. Round 1 showed just that.

I only just looked up Laird's heatmap to see where he was all game, these stats makes his putrid score even worse
I still can't believe how abysmal Laird was, my god. And to add insult to injury, it was his worst SC score since 2014. That's almost a decade ago. You cannot make this up?! Lol

If Jones misses then might go Jones to Cole and Greene to Sheezel.

Gives me another week to have a look at Day and Hopper before potentially booting them next week.

How many teams will tag him though? Hawthorn and GWS seem likely. I'm probably missing some, but I don't recall many teams tagging regularly.

People were saying the same thing about Sinclair last year as well, but he was only tagged in a couple games late in the year. The current crop of coaches don't seem to favour tagging.
Just to be clear I'm not against him as an option, I just think there is downside to this.

He doesn't even have to be tagged, he got almost zero attention the other day, teams just have to be more aware of him than the Cats were. Put even a little bit of physical pressure on him with his running, for example. I just can't see there's anyway teams are going to allow him to run around and notch up all these recieves 30 + times a game. If they do, they're just telling you they don't think he's worth the effort.

As Impromptu said, its a reasonably safe pick, especially when you factor in the ownership which is climbing towards half of the competition, so its also a defensive selection. Not owning him could really hurt us who don't have, but I'm betting other AFL teams are looking at this and thinking: "we aren't going to allow it." This was my read in the preseason and after only one game I don't really have a reason to change it as yet.

On Rachele he grabbed his hammy after a chase down tackle in the last quarter & looked to have done it. But he stayed on & they claimed it was just cramp.
Hard to know as many were cramping, just watch the injury list

He went back on and was running around fine after this; tells you it was indeed cramp. Can't do a hammy and do that. He played really well in that mid role, I was impressed.

Port have already openly said today that they planning on tagging him :-

Port Adelaide will “look at all the options” to try and stop Collingwood young star Nick Daicos, Power defensive coach Nathan Bassett says.
The Power and Collingwood face each other at the MCG on Saturday in a tantalising clash of the two teams who arguably impressed the most in Round 1.

After his outstanding debut season in the AFL, in which he comfortably claimed the Rising Star, Daicos hit the ground running in the first game of his second year against Geelong with 35 disposals and over 500m gained.

Despite it being a pre-season game Hawthorn deployed a tag on the young star.

Bassett said the Power had been discussing how to quell Daicos’ influence on Saturday.

“We have just been having that discussion,” he said.

“Cause he is interesting in the way he plays, he certainly runs hard and hunts that footy.

“He is a super talented player and as good for his age as anyone in the competition.

“It will be a challenge.”

The Power have rarely gone with a tag from the outset in games but Bassett said that could be on the cards.

“I think we look at all the options, what is the best way to minimise his strengths and potentially expose his weaknesses.

“So we will look at all the options.

“If we think the positives will outweigh the negatives and we think we have someone to do it.”

The Power have used Willem Drew as a tagger in the past, while Lachie Jones might also be one to do a defensive job.

Like the Power, the Pies were extremely impressive in victory in Round 1 with the fast style of footy blowing the Cats away.

I completely agree, he's not going to run around unopposed every week, but at 500k he doesn't need 120s every week, 105 ave is enough to be a good pick. I don't think the sort of attention you're talking about stops him from being a good pick. The only things that do are many hard tags, or him playing midfield like Collingwood pretended was a real thing. This is why I was trying to get an understanding of how many teams people think will actually run a hard tag.

Would it be wise to gift games to players on name basis and/or returning from injury and thus possibly underdone rather than rewarding form?

Also, what message does it send to the youngsters especially either in the 23 or VFL if there is a preconceived “best 22” and the long term consequences (player movement post season/future seasons if not given opportunities) and what does it also send to the established or older players if there is less pressure on their spots? Pressure is healthy, especially with the Dees in the premiership window.

Tackles are one of the key indicators I use for both rookies and premiums (K Chandler= Equal second last night with 7) but unsure whether coaching staff place the same importance on this.

The only player due back at the dees in Chandlers' position is Viney who is the dees best tackler so it is really Harmes vs Chandler
