No trades this week even though I have a 53,033 ranking.

1 Game to turn it around:
Fyfe better score against North in Perth or he is gone next week. JHF lined up to come in.

On Notice:
Flanders against Essendon needs to get more ball.
Hopper against Adelaide needs to look like he can run.
L Jones against StKilda with no forwards needs to play and intercept.

Backing players to turn it around:
Grundy
Marshall
A Brayshaw

Jelly to Cogs I think. Even if Jelly is gone for just a week, he's a disaster waiting to happen again and should have learned from the past. Much harder to cover for missing premiums this early in the season when the bench is full of rookies who aren't fieldable. Not sure on the other trades yet, Bruhn, Flanders and Hopper are problems.

Upon reflection I have decided to fix my structure as I am susceptible to rookie virus down back.

Out - Laird and Baker\Chesser.
In - Ridley and Coniglio.

This gives Hopper an extra week, I have gone the safer option in Ridley as Essendon will not play Hawthorn every week and no team is going to tag an Essendon half-back flanker.

Coniglio should have a greater presence in the midfield with the injuries GWS have in Perryman and Kelly.

It has reduced my cash to: $40,700

A few balls in the air atm, with some poor Rd1 performances.

Laird - hold for a week. Down grade would release a ton of cash but no one $560k+ really put their hand up.
Fyfe - hold for a week with a trade to JHF on the cards if JHF has another good game.

Would need to do the Laird trade to get enough cash to fix both these rookies if they don't improve.
F.Greene - likely hold for a week?
Chesser - likely hold for a week?

It's a massive call still going in with Liam Jones. I know he got injured, but if he played out the game he would've been lucky to break 40sc points anyway. I still struggle to see the value here and I took him. Makes me ill thinking about it.

I know a lot of us are talking about Nick Daicos and Hayden Young, but I think the sleeper very well could be Ed Richards.

His finish to the 2022 season and his first game this year shows that he seems to have found his niche playing deeper in defence. I know a lot were keen on Bailey Dale this year, and it was mentioned in the preseason thread, Dales run of poor scores coincided with Ed Richards rise in numbers late last season. Something to think about, loads of people were saying that Dale was one of the most reliable and stable SC scorers in defence but I disagree.

He was playing a lock down role in round 1 with Melbourne having B Brown, T McDonald, Gawn and Grundy all rotating forward.
In contrast StKilda have Mason Wood, Zaine Cordy and Anthony Caminiti.

If he can't peel of and take intercept marks this week then he's gone.
If he's out inj. he's gone.

If he plays I back him to beat an undermaned StKilda tall forwards.

Maybe, but it's vomit in my mouth material seeing him in my team.

Interested in people who saw the StK game's thoughts on H Clark. I tried to limit my midpriced exposure across lines, so ended up with Clark over the midfield options that I'd preferred (probably would have gone Setterfield except for my paranoia about including Essendon players).

He was names starting on all. What did his role actually look like? Is there any hope that he becomes a quality mid, or should I just cull him straight away?

Have Stewart to fix. But going to hold the rookies because a 20-100 is better than a 100-20 for cash gen.

(Also have Fyfe, but he's likely a placeholder for a missed rookie next week)

So Stewart -> someone, and then either use the second trade on Clark (can swing Ginbey to defence) or hold?

Really ****ing awful. I got sunburnt walking from the carpark to the stadium and back.

Looked up BOM because I was curious - 35.4 in the shade. Probably 40+ in the sun in the middle of a cauldron stadium. No breeze to speak of through the field either compared to outside the grandstand (we definitely noticed it as hot but less oppressive when we ducked out to get my daughter a new guernsey - wish she'd bloody stop growing, it's expensive).
That changes things for me with Laird. I didn't know it was hot over there

NFI what to do, but it will involve three trades. I knew I was underdone, but this was ridiculous. I think I want to downsize Stewart price-wise and use the cash on other problems. PLease help. Screen Shot 2023-03-21 at 12.16.42 pm.png

I can't bring myself to pick up any Dogs defender these days. It just seems like a massive game on musical chairs between Daniels or Dale or Richards or whoever was the toast early last year or whoever will be the toast in three weeks time, and I just know that when the music stops I'll be trying to sit in midair pretending I have a chair that's not just averaging 75 points for the last month.

And he's already going to be 1/2 this season. If it were round 18 or something and I had a backup premo or semi premo to cover for him, that would be fine. Not willing to risk an Oskar Baker on field right now.
