Yeah but would you field him this game? I'm tipping you have Wilmot on the bench. Who's the better prospecct?
I think you have to. If a decision is made to hold him, it seems this is the game that he could possibly punch out a good score on, if you have a donut to loop I guess that's an option but even if he scores well this week I'm still possibly going to trade him next week. It's his moment to shine.
Thanks. Do you think the role is related to Stewart being out?

He seems like one that may be hard to gauge for the medium term by the time we have to make a decision (maybe like JHF being on the bubble before Boak plays a full game). Callaghan could be another.
Possibly, but he showed up all around the ground so I still think there's a role for him. He's cheap if he's getting minutes so not a bad stepping stone.

Thanks, that makes sense. Scott spoke quite highly of him, and to be honest I had wondered whether his JS/role had been slightly overstated to get him to pick Geelong as his destination club, so that concern may have eased somewhat.

I'm happy to take the extra week on Bowes but if he backs it up next week, then he deserves a spot in your squad. Thought he was one of Geelong's better players last night, especially in the first hour or so. If last night wasn't a fluke, then Scott would have to keep him in. He's too good to leave out. If last night wasn't a fluke....

I think when Geelong has guys like Bruhn unable to run out games, they would be better served by selecting established players. Bowes has a good kick, pace and can win his own ball a bit so I could see him maybe taking Bruhn's spot when Stewart gets back. 80s and 90s should be his go if he gets a good run at it. Geelong are 0 and 2 now so can't be stuffing around with their 22 too much. If a player like Bowes is playing good footy, then he has to be left in.

I heard Griggs (Cats coaching staff I think) on SEN pre-game talking Bowes up also so they seem to be into him. Whether 2 losses in a row now changes things I'm not sure.

Definitely agree that it is disappointed that debutants start as a tactical SUB.

However, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't players used to debut as a medical SUB and get a game registered but did not actually get on the field.

At least tactical SUBS get some game time (assuming one is made every game)

Definitely no need to trade. From what I saw he seemed to be a bit unlucky. Things like going over his head to another option further down the ground, being on for the switch but going the other way instead and a few instances not getting used when running past for the handball receive.
A couple of the kicks going over his head were after 100m runs to get to the spot too. Things like that get looked at in match review and corrected, coaches dont generally like seeing guys get unrewarded after gut running to create an option in the right spot eg. Broad and Hardwicks comments mid week about Hopper being in the right spot multiple times and not being used

Agreed - it was worse when they debuted for 5 mins or didn't get on the field.

Tactical subs will get a whole quarter in nearly every case.

Yes feel for the debutant but for once I'll side with the clubs, they should pick the team that will help them win the game.

Rumours of Gulden missing this weekend starting to surface.
Lol. Only picked him at the last minute out of desperation. Would only be fitting.

Always a question of where these rumours originate though. Guess we'll see in a few hours.

At worst (depending on info) I'll use him to get Hollands score on the ground. Not ideal though.

If Gulden misses that'll give me a chance to look at Bakers score anyway I guess. Not ideal, but it's something to cling to.
