I dunno but every year the "never again" list seems to get bigger with more players that busted more coaches' seasons.

It will be interesting to see how Doc turns out. Might benefit from the game slowing down as it often does after the opening weeks
From my perspective the problem is there are just too many variables at play. Take a "keeper" defender that goes 105, 105, 85 and 85 first 4 games. You would probably keep him. But if he went 105, 85, 85 then would probably would not get the fourth rd 105 because after two 85’s he is out the door.

And that is just you and what is going on in your head (FOMO on the other guy that is knocking it out of the park)without even considering the reason why your selection scored the two 85’s. If that defender was an intercept defender (eg a McGovern type) then did the two 85 games result from the opposition playing small forward with quick entry and chaos balls? That gives no chance for the intercept player. Or was it a change of role for that particular player. Eg I saw an article posted earlier saying Doc was pushing up closer to stoppages and missing out on the easy intercept points. How could anyone have predicted that happening? Or players being forced to play unfriendly SC roles because someone else in their team is injured and they are the cover.

But then you need to watch the game to see these types of scenario unfold and understand how the role of a player has changed or scour the net to get the info. How many games do you want to watch in a weekend? Or read up on results? It becomes brain overload.

I have changed position over the years. I once made a selection and then backed them in even after poor starts, you know the drill, don’t chase points and you spent the pre season doing your research. These days I have almost dropped that. I still do it sometimes for a player but now as soon as I see a player I think has a good role or is a goer, I trade and jump on. The extra trades helps. It backfires sometimes but often it turns out better or at least no worse than holding on to the original pick. And it means a player does not get onto the dreaded “never again list” because you cut them before you get to the point of completely doing your bun at them.

Any hawk fans in the know, certain that Mackenzie will play & no chance of missing/being rested? I want to loop Phillips score but that puts Chesser onfield & runs the risk of a donut if Mackenzie is rested or dropped. Is there any chance of this? Thanks in advance.

I would back Mackenzie to play, have no real insights into this.

Think they normally go early on being out (managed) if he was to be rested.

7/650 (no NC or C)

I'm ranked 60k, so Docherty, became collateral damage in a bid to bring Clarry in, ranking is poor, so time to at least have players in my team I can enjoy cherring on (no offence intended).

Bont with the VC and Clarry will get the C.

What does SAT mean?
You are probably like me @Russty_ , I contact people by phoning or emailing, not texting, where abbreviations are used to save time. Therefore I too struggle with abbreviations, one of the drawbacks for not keeping up with progress.

Can’t express how happy I am that Carlton finally drafted two ready made players from last draft. Hollands and Cowan have stepped in and haven’t missed a beat. Hollands once again ran and ran and ran all day long, goes hard all day and doesn’t stop, his defensive efforts are second to none. Pretty sure he’s topped the tracker in all 4 games so far, and ran about an extra km to 2nd place today. Cowan for a first year player has some of the best courage I’ve seen, puts his head over the every contest without hesitation and never backs down from a contest. We have two absolute gems on our hands and I expect them to both play majority of games this season. Going into this season I wasn’t sure where Hollands sat with LOB, but he’s made that wing his and it will be for a very long time.

Binns another draftee from last year, had 28 and kicked 2 in the VFL today, expect to see him be given a run at some point this year.
Agree with your view on Hollands, gut runner and very impressive so far…
think he only gets better the longer the season goes too with his strong endurance

882/8 (Naicos)

Sheezel with 4 tons to open his career has me wondering - will he be a rookie-keeper? Is that even a thing 😂
On current form you would have to say yes. Out performing some of our actual “ keepers”…

May finish the year like Daicos from last year, slight plateaus in scoring across the year but overall a safe pick to keep

Sheezel may be one less Keeper we need to trade in. My concern is that a young, 1st year player, may tire later in the season and his scoring drops. If so, he may need to be traded out, when trades are low.
I would prefer if he is rested and misses the odd game during the season.

He's kind of ruining it for everyone else isn't he? Ginbey is a ready made midfielder in a team with a stack of injuries, averaging 88 - that would normally be the pick of the litter. Even Ashcroft at 79 looks kind of disappointing through that lens despite being objectively very good.

I won't mind trading him out for 600k.

Some? Only 2 of the 22 (Oliver and Witts) players that started with a price tag > 600k have a higher average after 3 and a bit rounds.

Crazy what the kids are doing these days

How often in SC do we look back on the season and say, why didn't I just hang onto that guy a bit longer, after they have a few bad games and we offload them? I'm not sure what to do with him really, but I know I've already done too many trades lol
I think just as many time we hold a guy and say why didn't I offload him at the first huge break even.

In terms of keeping rookies, even looking at Nick Daicos’ scores last year, you could make a case for either trading at the right time or holding. If you held past round 11, you saved a trade and benefitted from 5 x 100+ scores as well as 2 x 90+. However, look at the scores in rounds 6-11. If you’d traded to a premium keeper, you could argue you’d benefitted from higher likelihood of higher scores for rest of season. None of us have the crystal ball or that Sports Almanac from Back to the Future 2 so we make the decisions at the time with the information we have available. Then it is better not to second guess and have regret due to hindsight! 😉
