Michalanney was an unknown plus there were many 'perceived' viable options in DEF for R1 or more popular picks.

Buckley was a late in for Aleer in R1 on Sunday before their game. Priced at $205k and considering the circumstance, I doubt any teams would have a spot or the cash to pivot to him. He was certainly an option to correct to for R3 but again many probably had other spot fires to put out than a luxury Rookie upgrade to him.

McVee had unknown JS with clarity around Salem injury yet to be confirmed. Wasn't that inspiring at the bubble with scores of 50 & 23 but has gone on to average 68 since.
You raise some good points, but it is just annoying we didn't apply the same scrutiny to Constable when he was really only warming a spot for Wil Powell or Chesser who also scored poorly in the preseason off limited gametime.

I think it was known that GC had injuries and Constable would have queries against him later on. However the job was his to take and most people thought he would get more than 2 games before JS became an issue. I mean his SC scores would indicate he wasn't the worst performer in those 2 games. I think GC have a few of those players that are too good for VFL but not good enough for AFL.

Chesser was coming back from injury and that was well known. However he is also rated highly by the Eagles so I think the expectation was that once they thought he was ready to go it would be onwards and upwards. Plus both Chesser and Constable had D/M and that might have swayed a few people as well.

I think his JS is pretty good. The issue will be scoring IMO. Helped with Frederick out for a few. As a natural forward he's what Freo need, but with the coach seemingly trying to reinvent football, who knows.
I think I read / heard Longmuir quoted as saying the "Fyfe forward" experiment is over so that would seem to make Sturt's JS a little more solid. Still feels very much on the fringe but the only other option for me is go early on Cincotta which is a risk I'd prefer to avoid. Those who went early on Wagner are now paying the price.

I'd definitely take Sturt over going early on anyone.

This is the final update for the season.

Hope it has provided useful information for you to make an informed decision. Be prudent and patience with the Rookies you have and are about to trade in as the 'sub risk' has thrown us all an unnecessary curveball to deal with.

Gold Coast Reserves made pigs of themselves against a depleted Richmond on Sunday. Constable good but given the seniors got up and have a pretty settled backline now, hard to see Constable forcing himself in, absent an injury. Ben Long probably the only one down in terms of output but I think he's playing more of a defensive role. Humphrey probably comes out but you'd think Rosas holds his spot or maybe Blakely / Flanders are a chance.

Good rookie performances in the VFL/WAFL/SANFL:
Billy Dowling (117k MID, ADE) had 28 disposals (15 kicks), 8 marks, 3 tackles and 1.1 for 108AF.
Tariek Newchurch (123k FWD, ADE) had 16 disposals (9 kicks), 6 marks, 8 tackles and 4.2 for 114AF.
Jaxon Binns (117k MID/FWD, CAR) had 28 disposals (18 kicks), 6 marks, 4 tackles and 1.0 for 115AF. His performances are stacking up and is pushing his case for selection. Still wasn’t even an emergency last week which isn’t great. Carlton’s depth of wingers doesn’t fill me with confidence, but he did play better than LOB on the weekend so hopefully he’s goes past him soon.
Karl Worner (123k DEF/MID, FRE) had 33 disposals (16 kicks), 11 marks and 3 tackles. Been performing well for over a year now, but still never looks like a chance of getting a game.
Tom Emmett (117k FWD, FRE) had 17 disposals (12 kicks), 3 marks, 4 tackles and 3.2.
Corey Wagner (117k DEF/MID, FRE) had 16 disposals (12 kicks), 3 marks and 1 tackle. Only made the list due to his current relevance. Poor performance from him and with Worner and Wilson (26 and a goal) both performing much better, it’s hard to see him coming back any time soon.
Jhye Clark (175k MID, GEE) had 29 disposals (19 kicks), 5 marks, 4 tackles and 0.1 for 107AF.
Ted Clohesy (102k MID, GEE) had 26 disposals (15 kicks), 8 marks, 6 tackles and 1.2 for 121AF.
Connor Blakely (123k MID, GCS) had 35 disposals (15 kicks), 9 marks and 10 tackles for 155AF. Could he be the answer with Touk out?
Charlie Constable (123k DEF/MID, GCS) had 32 disposals (23 kicks), 11 marks, no tackles and 1.0 for 128AF. Typical performance for Constable, rack them up but no tackles. Can’t see him getting back into the team unless he seriously improves his defensive attributes or an injury occurs.
Thomas Berry (123k FWD, GCS) had 25 disposals (12 kicks), 7 marks, 5 tackles and 0.2 for 103AF. Surely he goes past Rosas and Oea soon, he’s a better player IMO.
James Tsitas (123k MID/FWD, GCS) had 20 disposals (14 kicks), 6 marks, 1 tackle and 5.0 for 105AF.
Ned Moyle (123k RUC, GCS) had 20 disposals (15 kicks), 7 marks, 1 tackle, 25HO and 1.0 for 99 AF.
Chris Burgess (138k DEF/FWD, GCS) had 20 disposals (15 kicks), 7 marks, 4 tackles, 21HO and 5.3 for 144AF.
Oskar Faulkhead (123k MID/FWD, GCS) had 17 disposals (10 kicks), 3 marks, 2 tackles and 2.2 for 72AF.
Wade Derksen (123k FWD, GWS) had 30 disposals (13 kicks), 9 marks, 3 tackles and 12 HO for 119 AF.
Cameron Fleeton (123k DEF, GWS) had 30 disposals (14 kicks), 5 marks and 5 tackles for 107AF.
Josh Fahey (123k DEF/MID, GWS) had 25 disposals (19 kicks), 13 marks, 4 tackles and 1.0 for 118AF. I hope he gets a game soon, has been killing it for weeks.
Harry Rowston (175k MID, GWS) had 16 disposals (8 kicks), 2 marks and 1 tackle for 44AF. Like Wagner, he only makes the list on current relevance. Very disappointing performance for owners.
Cam Mackenzie (245k MID/FWD, HAW) had 30 disposals (18 kicks), 4 marks, 3 tackles and 0.1 for 103AF. Doesn’t fall in the right price bracket but thought I’d add him in. Most have traded him, but for those that held, a senior recall is firmly on the cards.
Ned Long (165k MID, HAW) had 23 disposals (7 kicks), 5 marks and 5 tackles for 80AF. On the bubble if he ever returns. Scores of 67 and 51 in his first 2 games.
Bailey Laurie (123k MID/FWD, MEL) had 20 disposals (7 kicks), 2 marks, 6 tackles and 1.0 for 77AF.
Francis Evans (136k FWD, PTA) had 15 disposals (12 kicks), 5 marks, 2 tackles and 2.2 for 71AF.
Thomas Scully (117k FWD, PTA) had 9 disposals (8 kicks), 5 marks, no tackles and 4.4 for 70AF.
Sam Banks (123k DEF/MID, RIC) had 23 disposals (14 kicks), 7 marks and 2 tackles for 90AF. He has been performing well consistently for a while now, he must be close.
Cody Raak (123k DEF/FWD, WBD) had 21 disposals (15 kicks), 9 marks and 2 tackles for 92AF.

Collingwood, Essendon, North Melbourne, Sandringham (St. Kilda), Brisbane and Sydney all had byes this week.

For those with JVR, Tom McDonald kicked 2.1 from 15 disposals while Ben Brown kicked 1.1 from 11 disposals.
