It's amazing how these things perpetuate. Peter Ryan has run a couple of pieces citing that "56-touch performance" when it's clear that the only authority for that number was Eastlake's rough count of how many touches one of the opposition mids was getting while carving them up.

In one article Ryan writes: "He averaged 32 disposals, with a standout game against Eastlake landing 56 possessions." But Vandenberg could only have averaged 32 if he got 43 disposals versus Eastlake. If credited with 56 disposals, his average rises to 33.

As they say, a lie will be halfway around the world before the truth has got its boots on.

What!

The Fairfax sports department printed and stated as if it was a fact an inaccurate guess when they could easily have checked an official record. And then they repeated that in follow up stories... surely this can't be true, no way Fairfax would do that.

I'm shocked!!!!!

At the end there was a bit. Perhaps there's more music coming through on one side of someone's speakers and that created the problem?

Just on Vandenberg, apparently came to the club with a decent shoulder issue that he needs to sort out first.

On a side note, I'm now gearing up for 2015 and just ran a quick eye over the drafts. I've felt in the last few years there have been a strong handful of 'obvious' draftees who you could confidently say would be in the mix for R1 - think the Wines, O'Meara, Dunstan types - due to a mix of being a ready made draftee and going to a team with a spot for them.

This year, there doesn't seem many who fit that bill just yet. Petracca and Brayshaw are the obvious prototype but I feel Paul Roos and his 'draftees shouldn't have to play early' mantra might make this an issue for us as I'm thinking vesting might ruin their moo-ing capacities. Even an obvious mature ager like Boekhorst isn't held that highly by Blues fans despite him being a first round pick.

I think it's a little more clouded by the fact that GWS and GC don't need their draftees to play straight away anymore.

Love this time of year though!

More will obviously pop up as there is a loooong way to go this preseason, but I've just found it a very interesting start!

I agree. It doesn't look like there will be as many rookies with job security as there have been in the past few years. It might be the year for mid pricers or finding different ways to make money. I can't remember who it was but someone this year asked if they should trade out Kade Simpson at $594000. The general consensus was you don't sideways trade keepers. But even if you thought Harry Taylor could match Simpson's scoring the trade had a $240000 profit. As it turned out Taylor outscored Simpson for the rest of the year.

Not sure if he has already been mentioned, but keep an eye out for Nathan Freeman from the Pies in 2015. Reports from supporters who follow the open training session are that he has been one of the best performers on the track (fitness, skills and match simulation work). He should also be cheap after not playing last year due to injury.

Just about a lock for me if selected round 1, which from what we have heard is a near certainty if fit.

Good article on Nakia Cockatoo, he sounds very handy but I'm hesitant with Geelong new draftees.

Geelong haven't been much with rookies remembering Bews, Thurlow, Smedts, Kersten, Stringer, Sheringham, McCarthy, Schroder, Burbury, Simpkin since 2010. There's probably more, but either through injury or selection concerns I've had little confidence picking them.
Exceptions to this have been Blicavs and Podsiadly that I can remember.

Thurlow would have/will be an exception when they actually give him an extended run and game time in the seniors, will be a very handy half back or wingman for the Cats, I like him a lot.
