I appears I have been playing a game for years without any clue about scoring. My bad. Kind of like playing poker all your life and not knowing a flush beats a straight. Maybe time to walk away Renee and take up lawn bowls. At least in that game I know if you drop the bowl you most likely end up with a sore foot.

I could be be wrong, going off memory from 4 or 5 years ago, actually I think the above maybe is what gets you most points from CD. Got a feeling their is also another tier of point scoring (slightly lower) for impeding an opposition from getting an effective disposal.

Would need to go back and look at the definitions CD released in the paper a few years ago.

Tackle= Using physical contact to prevent an opponent in possession of the ball from getting an effective disposal.

“A tackle is awarded to a player who through physical contact affects the disposal of the player in possession. Knocking a player to the ground as they get an effective handball to a teammate will not be rewarded with a tackle, regardless of the force of the contact. In contrast, a slight touch that puts a player off-balance while kicking can be rewarded by a tackle.”

Thanks @Connoisseur for the info. So in the scenario I described earlier, if the tackle forced the ball out of the possession of the player being tackled irrespective of who subsequently picks up the ball that would be a tackle. But a crunching tackle that still resulted in the player being tackled to get a random handball away under pressure that could have gone to anyone but just happens to get picked up by a team mate gets nothing. Interesting, weird, but at least clarified.

Thanks all, also found the below from CD from 5 years ago:

The defensive aspect of SuperCoach is just as important as the offensive.

Teams have lifted in the tackling department with the competition average jumping to 67.4 per game – the second-biggest recorded in any season to date.

A tackle can be defined as using physical contact to prevent an opponent in possession of the ball from getting an effective disposal. If a player has on, two, or more players hanging off him and executes an effective kick or handball, then a tackle will not be awarded.

The most rewarding tackle in SuperCoach is the run down tackle that dispossess a player, or otherwise known as the Cyril Rioli chase-down. This act is rewarded with six SuperCoach points.

A standard tackle, when a player prevents his opponent from disposing of the ball, is worth four SuperCoach points.

If a player is tackled and records a clanger or ineffective disposal — for example, kicking the ball out on the full — the tackler is rewarded with a ‘tackled by’ stat. That is also worth four SuperCoach points.

And Champion Data also records ‘disposessed by’ which applies to players who have won possession but doesn’t get a disposal away.

TACKLES SUPERCOACH POINTS
Run-down tackle dispossessed 6
Tackle 4
Tackle from dispossessed 4
Tackle by 4

No doubt it's a bad tackle but I'm struggling to see how that's a strike?

Wouldn't mind it being assessed as rough conduct though.

If I was Pickett I would be asking the ump exactly what the charge is. Ump caught up in the moment on that one. Free kick yes. Report no.
