As someone who was punished almost all season by Neale in 2020 I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t having a smile here and there at his performance over the last 2 weeks. Collingwood in round 3 and we know bucks doesn’t mind a tag either.

He’s priority one to get in my side when he bottoms out, even if it’s at the cost of a sideways trade.
This is pretty key I think.
If Neale drops to sub-600k through rounds 5-7 or something like that, I'm ready to sideways the most overpriced looking premo to get him in at that point.
Ditto Gawn and Grundy actually should I be so lucky.

Maybe a DEF has pulled out a 140 or something like that and is sitting at $550k+... back it in, pull the trigger.

If Heppell plays you’ll get the lowest of the two E’s.

Oh hang on, you’ll know Heppell’s situation before Melbourne play. In that case you could just bench him for Jordan. Or am I missing something?
Can't you just swap Jordon for Heppell , if Heppell is out ?
Yeah, ur both right.. I just over thought it because I really wanted to play Jordon over Berry..

Haven't seen the latest injury reports to see the extent of Big O's injury.

Fullarton certainly didn't look anything inspiring last night.

Not sure how far McStay is.

Wouldn't be surprised if they played 4 mids at the CBA and just conceded the ruck to Grundy , Berry could possibly play the "Dunkley" role and just shark Grundy's HO around the game.
Technically speaking he (McInerney) should miss Thursday night's game because they used the sub. I viewed it as a situation where they gave him the jab when he came off and it got him through another two quarters, but he had no strength in the leg and I guess the jab must have worn off enough (or maybe pain level had increased enough) for him to not be able to handle it in the last quarter.

Fullarton isn't ready for AFL footy yet - he's clearly not up to the speed of the game and plays small for a big man, which isn't a surprise given his background. He'll probably still be in the team, but they will also probably bring in Ballenden for McInerny, so I'm not expecting Fullarton to set the house on fire.

A player subbed off for injury (aside from concussion) doesn't have to miss the following game at all.

The process/procedure was stated on the AFL site & Fox Sports site (probably other sites as well) on what the club doctor needs to do and information they need to provide to the AFL medical officer in order for said player to be cleared to play the following game.

You must be living in an alternate universe - Bucks doesn't even consider tag any rampaging opposition on-baller during a game like ever now.
He’s certainly had players do jobs in the midfield in recent memory. Perhaps not as in game adjustment but he’s definitely set run with roles.

By no means am I saying he’ll definitely tag Neale, but I reckon there’s a strong case to be made for it after the effectiveness it’s shown to have had in the last fortnight.

Trust me as a Collingwood supporter it happens very rarely and it's a source of constant frustration amongst Collingwood supporters over many years, given how well it often does work when he tries it.

The problem we have now is we probably don't have the right type of player in our best 25 to justify bringing them in for a tag and we're in a position where we really need to get games into the kids this year, so I can't see him reaching for someone like Greenwood to put on a hard tag for a specific game at the moment.

Dangerfield allowed to play in VFL practice match today,as Zac Williams was last week. Suspension should mean suspension. Robbing a 2s player of a position in the team, who is trying to forge a career,
And allowing matchplay conditioning when he's been banned. It's like saying, you got caught doing 150 in a Maserati, but here, drive this Mazda 626 around for a while. Off you go.

It was interesting that last night slower players like Selwood and Lyons actually benefitted as fatigue kicked in. They didn't get any slower, but the players around them did. At one point in the last quarter Lyons stepped through a couple of Geelong players and then accelerated away from them, something that would never happen normally.

Geelong chipping themselves (and not the Lions) to a standstill might've had something to do with it. For most of the 2nd half they were effectively defending with the ball or wasting time. Make the minimum kick 20 metres and call it the Scott rule, it would be a fitting tribute to his "contribution" to the game as a player and a coach.

This is what I was going off:

https://www.afl.com.au/news/563193/afl-statement-on-new-medical-sub-rule

3. A Medical Substitute can be activated immediately after it is determined a Player is medically unfit to continue to participate in the match and, due to the nature of the injury sustained, it is reasonably determined the player will be medically unfit to participate in any match for at least the next 12 days.
a. Only the Club Medical Officer can determine a Player is medically unfit.
b. A Medical Substitute can be activated at any stage during the match.
c. A Medical Substitute can occur even after the Interchange Cap of 75 has been met as per current AFL Regulations when an injured player has exited the Playing Surface.
d. On or before the first working day after the match, the Club Medical Officer must provide a Medical Certificate to the AFL certifying that the Player replaced by the Medical Substitute Player sustained the injury.

I don't think this has changed since then and clubs need to put up a very good case as to why an injury which was thought to have taken a minimum of 12 days to recover from has turned into something which only takes 5-6 days when seeking an exemption to allow the player to play the following week - it's not as open slather as you appear to think it is, unless something has changed that I have missed.

I do agree with a lot of the media sentiment that the position the AFL has put clubs and themselves in with this medical sub is farcical and the whole thing needs to be scrapped imo.

Practice matches are practice matches - the rules around suspension are for games that carry competition points or finals. Nothing wrong with that imo - if anything the younger players in the magoos would probably benefit from having a best-22 standard AFL player lacing up the boots and running out with them in a VFL game.

yep that's the one

so now it's up to d.

I guess the thing is the club doctor is making the decision on what is available at the time , until the player have the chance to have a scan etc (if needed) they (the doctor) can't be 100% certain how long the player could be out.

The rule certainly places a lot of trust on the club doctor.

I haven't tracked , but how many of the players subbed off in Round 1 are playing this round ?

Fullerton does look average. But I will assume with more time on the ball could push to 50+.

None - Vlastuin was closest with a knee cork.

The day will come when someone pushes the envelope a bit too far subbing off a player with a minor non-structural injury like a corkie or shoulder stinger which they traditionally play through and then it will get very messy.

Be interesting to see what they do if Big O does indeed miss , Fullarton struggled to even provide a contest in the ruck , let alone win a HTA.

No idea what other options they have to use.

Certainly needs to score 50+ though to generate some quick $$$
