Wait what? CCJ?
Yuck for Xerri
I don't agree with this. Team sheets will confirm but CCJ is a very poor ruckman, he's picked as a forward and should be picked as a forward.
Kangas need a couple of extra targets to take some pressure off of Larkey and allow him to do what he does well (work-rate presenting).
If he's in instead of Xerri then it makes it easy. I'd say it's the best case selection news for Xerri, no doubts can be left about CCJ taking his spot if he's already picked in another.
Goldy is a very decent forward also, clever in his positioning and draws attention.
Definitely a risky pick but at that price the upside is huge.
I wouldn’t call myself a professional at this game or anything but I think people highlyyyy underestimate the benefits of a loophole not only in relation to captain but also rookies
I always carry around Atleast one loop aswell as often a non playing r3, and it seems to not hurt me to badly, in fact I reckon it gains me points in the long run.
The ability to loop rookies who are highly inconsistent probably is the best part
But each to there own
I don't know about underestimating the value of a donut, I think they're valuable (albeit I'm terrible at it and lose points every season). I seriously question the value of a round 1 donut. Macrae is set to make you ~10 points as captain, a 2nd chance on one rookie might make 40. So you've gained 50 points in round 1 and cost yourself ~150k on your final team which is ~25 points a week in upgrade value.
If you don't have a donut by round 2-3 anyway, then you're so far ahead of the game that you'll crush the lost points anyway because you've got everyone making cash at that point.
So why not just put Goldy in the VFL and give Xerri the responsibility and pick CCJ/Comben as the back up ?
Is Goldy a "clock face" ruckman or does he just have his 2-3 main hitting zones ?
Said it above but Goldy is a legitimately decent forward, easily their 2nd best KPF and possibly their best even. He's also an enormous asset as the 2nd ruck, he's one of the best first rucks in the league still, as a 2nd he's going to abuse the Jackson, Williams, Sava types.
Might have already been asked, but:
M Owens
N Martin
Would these have any better prospects than J Hayes, H Dixon, K Baldwin?
Very questionable job security on all 5.
Owens is in while Jones, in particular, is out but he's probably going to get a weak role and have to play amazing to hold his spot once a few guys get back (Billings/Clark are a month away give or take, Jones could be next week, no one knows).
Martin is right on the fringe with a few best 22 type lurking. He's mature aged and looks a goer though so he's every chance to actually hold the spot on merit. Think personally I might not take him but be ready for a downgrade if he's still there round 3. Think he's the clear pick of the 5 for potential cash generation and job security.
Baldwin has to play well enough to hold out Francis and Jones starting from probably next week with Francis. Ultimate will be great or terrible. Lot of competition.
Dixon probably has the best short term JS with about a month to demand minutes but hard to see the spot for him if others are fit and the team looks very weak and he probably struggles to score.
Hayes is out when Ryder is ready. DPP is valuable (goes for Dixon also). He showed good signs as far as scoring in multiple ways, particularly at ground level where repeat efforts generally results in points long term.
