Keen to hear thoughts on the best two MID premiums to trade in this week.

Currently have Macrae, Neale, Oliver, Touk.

My shortlist throughout the week has been…

Steele
Walsh
Parish
Petracca
Smith

Have been big on Smith the last couple of weeks, love their fixtures but just didn’t have the minerals to execute Hough to him last week, sort of kicking myself. But not sure if I should be going him when I can afford the other big guns.
I have been grappling with Walsh/Petracca/Smith all week (grabbing 2 of the 3).. so I have them top 3, and overall order would be:

Walsh
Smith
Petracca
Steele
Parish

Main thoughts are:

Walsh - Think he has the perfect mix of inside/outside to his game to score well across a few different roles. Doubt he gets the tag with Cripps rampaging and Hewett being so critical to their clearance game. Can see him being a strong scorer and love that he is in so few teams - with how similar everyone is starting to look I think a strong POD is gold!

Smith - The value is great, and I think he came of age in the back half of last year. This is such a tight call vs Petracca and his ceiling, but I think if you can get a premium for $520k that can not only be parked at M8 in the worst case scenario, but also frees up some cash for next weeks upgrades.. you have to take it. Can always be traded at his bye if needed but as you touched on, the doggies draw is unbelievable!

Petracca - Ceiling is huge but can also get stuck on some lower scores. Think he draws the tag more than Oliver because of how damaging he is, which means I don't see his price ever being unattainable - it'll just be the timing. Think he's a great player and will be good in the team.. loads of positives but just have Walsh (scoring, POD) and Smith (value, draw) slightly higher.

Steele - I posted something earlier but I just don't think paying $640k is a good idea when weighing up his next 2 opponents. back to back 90-100 scores wouldn't surprise me and I think he pops up sub $600k over the next few weeks. Absolutely a lock for final teams but you'd be paying close to the top and there is risk in the short term. He won't get more expensive, so pencil him in for an upgrade in 3-4 weeks and at worst you'll pay the same. I really think you'll get a good deal though (similar to last year).

Parish - I wouldn't touch any bomber at the moment, they're just lost! Getting smashed at the contest and struggling to stop teams from torching us with pace. Parish needs a slower, more contested game to maximise his scoring and that just isn't happening at the moment. Don't see him as a priority right now, so kick that can down the road and think on him when you need a final midfielder.

What are peoples thoughts on Rory Laird? Seems to have started the season really well and could be an ultra-pod in the midfield. Do we think he will sustain 115+ave for the year?

Looking for some alternative players that can be positive PODs as I've had a slow start. The other option who could still be a POD for a while is Walsh.

Smith has looked awesome but his TOG is so high you would wonder if its sustainable so prefer Petracca myself - also dealing with the Bevo factor.

Who's better to trade out - Chapman or JHF? Have to trade Hall and need a downgrade a switch to Petracca and Rosas. The other alternative is go go Full Monty and trade Hall, JHF and Chapman out and bring in Parker or Sicily but have no cash left for next week - thoughts guys?

Anyone with English considering a trade? Hammy’s concern me…
Only brought him in last week so he becomes a floating donut for the time being…need to get more information However likely to keep him.. differs to my decision with a Cripps based on his injury impacted history…

Chapman is out this week and JHF still has a gettable BE and could make a bit more money. Depends on what the price difference gets you (JHF is $70k less or so).

After shuffling around, going
- Hall > Green
- Hinge > Hayes
- Rowell > Brayshaw

Taking a bit of value while I can, plus it lets me lock Daicos and NOD into D5 and D6 for the moment instead of bleeding 30-40 points with McCartin.

If things fall my way, which they rarely do, it even opens up next week nicely:
- Berry > Hobbs
- JHF > Oliver

Many on the Petracca train this week, although not sure if draw helps him or not. Can be a big game player over downhill skier.

Agree with attention on Petracca and now Cripps, Walsh is interesting. Rory Laird also interesting. Both could be above Petracca. Hard to pick who is top 6-10 right now.

Trade who out?

Rowell vs JHF?
Dixon vs Durdin?
Rowell - Higher BE, probably less chance of hitting it given recent form.

If you're trading one of Dixon or Durdin I'd lean towards Dixon if it doesn't break your structure - made that touch more money and already injured. I'd sit on both though.

In order...
Steele: back to back 120+ seasons and is just warming up. You'll have to have him at some point.
Trac: looks like a 115-120 player this year. Has copped the tags already and it only dragged him down to 90s type scores.
Brayshaw(!): Same as Trac - hard tag he was scoring 90s, running free he just rattles off 120+ scores by getting everywhere. Looks like another 115-120.
Walsh: Only question is how he scores with a fit Cripps plus Hewett and Cerra, which I don't think is answered yet. That's the unknown which makes his range look like 110-125.
Smith: He's punched out some scores, but what if Bevo suddenly puts Bont back in the middle full-time? 105-115 range for me.
Parish: Can get loose and some serious leather poisoning but Essendon look rubbish this year and teams already aren't letting him run around for 40+ touches and 160SC. Another 105-115 candidate for me.

Owens, Hinge and English to Macrae, Preuss and S Hayes

It doesn't get me any more keepers, reduces the amount of cash left over for any upgrades in the next couple of weeks, and potentially ruins my ruck setup (Grundy is a dud pick and I'll now have no R/F link in my rucks). I'm using 3 basically sideways trades to get a reliable C option plus J Hayes and Preuss on field over the likes of Ward. Improved future cash gen too of course, although my last couple of weeks have been so bad that I really need points now.

I've had a horrible few weeks of life getting in the way of SC. How dare it lol. Anyway, 2022 started well + gone backwards 🤣 (I got heaps of forum reading to do!). I dunno if this is a good idea or not but this week trades (via DPP magic and yay for positions added at the end of Rd5) =
Out: Whitfield, Rowell
In: Preuss, Parish

Just a quickie, Alex Davies being omitted doesn't hurt Rowell's chance of doing a bit better given the proportion of stoppages Davies was taking.

Looks like I might be stuck with English as a loop agent for this week, question is do I fade Rosas and just have the two ins this week (Preuss + one of Petracca / Freoshaw) given we have SHayes and maybe Hobbs around the corner?

Also mindful that next week might be the week to use a trade boost with the way BE's look like they're shaping up.

All I can say at this point is thank goodness for the DPP changes last week, it would be a bloody nightmare to manage this without them but it looks like I've got enough flexibility to manage things around the MID / RUC / FWD loops this week and hopefully get the highest scoring players I can on each of the lines.

I looked at him. Think he is a good POD but Adelaide's draw so far has been kinda easy. Laird can still score well in loses but obviously you would rather have him in games where Adelaide are at least competitive. I think he has a better finish to the year judging by Adelaide's draw after the bye, that's when I will look at him, possibly as my last mid.
