Callaghan, last years no 3 pick is the one of most interest. Great skill set, moves well and should now see plenty of games early. at $244k he is a tough ask over a Will Ashcroft, but could well end up a better pick than Hopper given the lower price.
An update on Callaghan's injury:

New Giants coach “not concerned” about out of contract Victorian top five draft pick (sen.com.au)
BY NIC NEGREPONTIS - A DAY AGO

..........“Look, he’s out of contract, we’re in negotiations at the moment as I understand, but I’m not really concerned about losing Finn,” Kingsley said.

“I think Finn is the kind of guy you build a footy club around and he’s incredibly loyal and certainly his intention is to stay with us at this point in time.

He’s had a horrid run with injuries. Obviously that foot surgery towards the end of last year and he’s still recovering from that. He’s joined in with match practices the last two times and plan to again on Friday.

“He’s a beautiful mover, I love watching him play and I look forward to him being a Giant and having a terrific career.

“To be quite frank I’m not concerned about losing Finn.”..............

Out of interest, how deep are we currently batting in the mids?

I'm flip flopping from Hopper at M5 or M6.
Hopper at 5, pretty confident we get 3 decent mid rookies out of the likes of Ashcroft,Wardlaw,Mackenzie,Phillips and Johnson, feels common sense for your bench to have a defence/mid or mid/forward swing aswell just for a bit more flexibility being able to swing the likes of Ginbey and McLean could be crucial if things arent going quite as we plan in a certain round.

Hopper is currently M4, but likely to change to M5.
I'm not really happy with 3 Forwards over $500k (Dunkley, Coniglio and Rozee) and Cameron is there too (hoping he is match fit Rd1).
Basically, I am waiting to see how many good Rookies play Rd1 in the Fwd and Mid lines, as that will influence my decision.

Hmmm, I noticed that I don't have any Def, Mid and Fwd swings. I think they are important early in the season, to help with Rookie trading and important later in the season, when trades are low, to help cover injuries.

Wardlaw has ongoing hamstring issues I believe, North are wisely taking a cautious approach with him (don't think he has trained much yet) so I doubt we see him early on. Johnson is in a dogfight for a spot in Freo's best 22 - their midfield bats deep now so I am concerned about his job security.
Ashcroft & Phillips look very solid/ can certainly put them on the field with confidence. Mackenzie is looking good at training, hawks are a very interesting team to watch over the preseason games with how they go about things - I am a little wary of hawk rookie mids at that price as I recall Josh Ward looking great last year until the season actually started & he averaged under 50 a game for those first 8 weeks :confused: Think Mitchell played him more half fwd from memory after he was given decent mid mins in the preseason games.

Also rolling Hopper at M6 right now, I think the only way that changes right now is if I move him up to Macrae or Petracca at M6.

Laird, Oliver, Miller, Bont and Steele the 5 for me right now.

I feel really good about the premium mids this year, could backfire horrifically but just really like the group.

Looks great.

However he has not been involved in any match sim this year, and as far as I know, is unlikely to be ready for round 1. But given @Shaunpro1 has named him, I may not have all the latest information.
He was more the guy I want to keep an on field spot for rather than walk up Round 1 starter chance, think hell be way too good for VFL standard and they were massive on him for most of last year so as soon as they bulletproof the body across a full pre season I don't think he will be far away.
