2024 fantasy football position preview - Quarterback - ESPN
2024 fantasy football position preview: Quarterback

The quarterback position in fantasy football has undergone quite a transformation over the past decade and a half........
..........Among the reasons for this is the growing number of mobile quarterbacks across the league and the strong correlation between mobility and fantasy production. Pocket passers, in this modern era, are at a distinct disadvantage. As we migrate into our examination of the position's value tiers, we'll start with the mobile quarterbacks, as they dominate the upper portion of the rankings..........

Tier 1: Stars who can run
Allen, Hurts, Mahomes and Lamar Jackson have combined to account for eight of the 17 best single-season fantasy point totals among quarterbacks in NFL history, and four of those have come in the past two seasons. Each of them also attempted at least 75 rushing attempts last season, accounting for half of the eight quarterbacks who ran at least that often in 2023.............

Tier 2: NFL franchise cornerstones
One could make the case that 2023 rookies Anthony Richardson and C.J. Stroud, each of whom exhibited elite-caliber impact, aren't far off from graduating into the top tier.........They join Joe Burrow, the 2020 No. 1 pick, and comeback kid Dak Prescott as the position's next-best options..........

Tier 3: Value picks with some questions
.........A pair of 2023 breakouts, Jordan Love (fifth among QBs in fantasy points) and Brock Purdy (sixth), will probably be the most popular from this tier............. Rodgers, he and Kyler Murray represent the "old guard" within this tier, ............Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, also stake a claim to rankings within this tier............Finally, a pair of household fantasy names round out the tier, with Kirk Cousins joining an enticing Atlanta Falcons offense, while a prime-age Herbert has gaudy statistical accolades........

Justin Herbert raves about Chargers rookie WR (msn.com)
Justin Herbert raves about Chargers rookie WR
Story by Aaron Becker, Yardbarker • 2hr

The Chargers parted ways with veteran wide receivers Keenan Allen (Bears) and Mike Williams (Jets) this o***eason.

That forced Los Angeles into a rebuild of its wide receiver room, which saw the addition of DJ Chark in free agency as well as Ladd McConkey and Brenden Rice in the 2024 NFL Draft. The team also has returning playmakers in Joshua Palmer and Quentin Johnston.

Who will establish themselves as the No. 1 wide receiver remains up for debate, but McConkey has impressed quarterback Justin Herbert so far.

"He's just picked up the offense so easily. It's like he's been a four- or five-year vet," Herbert said, via Kris Rhim of ESPN. "He understands the game."

McConkey will have to earn every snap during training camp, but he has set himself up to compete for a significant role after developing an early relationship with Herbert.

The No. 34 overall pick didn't put up crazy numbers during his collegiate career at Georgia. Over the past three years, McConkey registered 119 catches for 1,687 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also rushed for 216 yards and four touchdowns during the span.

However, McConkey always answered when called upon and played a large role in helping the Bulldogs win back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022.

McConkey has also done one thing very well throughout his football career: get open. According to Rhim, that hasn't changed.

"Second-round rookie receiver Ladd McConkey has been perhaps the team's best route runner in the o***eason program," Rhim writes. "His quickness and preciseness in routes is what made the Chargers trade up to get him in the second round."
McConkey must continue to prove he can be relied upon when the pads come on in training camp, but early reports are promising.

What's up guys.

Just wondering if anyone has a spot open in a draft cash league? I keep telling myself every year to join one and always forget.

Orrrr would anyone be interested in joining one if i was to create one. Thinking $100 entry with usual prize structure or larger entry fee and more and/or weekly prizes.

Los Angeles Chargers rookie WR can do what another L.A. rookie did a year ago (msn.com)

Los Angeles Chargers rookie WR can do what another L.A. rookie did a year ago
Story by Travis Wakeman • 20hr

The Los Angeles Chargers have a rookie on the team who can produce the same type of season that another Los Angeles rookie accomplished last year.

In 2023, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua came out of nowhere. The fifth-round pick set numerous rookie records including most receptions in a season, most receiving yards in a season, and most receptions in a game. He was unstoppable at times and it was refreshing to see.

But if you watch the way the Rams used Nacua, primarily on passes across the middle of the field, McConkey will most likely be used the same way by the Chargers.

Can Ladd McConkey put up Puka Nacua numbers?
McConkey could be a record-breaking receiver as well and with the options that the Chargers have in the passing game, he could be the team's No. 1 target in the passing game.

Jim Harbaugh is going to rely on his running game. He is not going to have Justin Herbert throwing the ball around 40-50 times per game. Herbert will look to his short passing game to move the chains and McConkey should see a ton of targets.

While Nacua's numbers (105 receptions, 1,486 yards) may be a bit lofty, McConkey could certainly get into the neighborhood of those and if he leads all rookie receivers in those categories this coming season, don't be surprised.

Rams Insider: Cooper Kupp & Puka Nacua Will Be '1A/1B' in L.A's Offense (msn.com)

Rams Insider: Cooper Kupp & Puka Nacua Will Be '1A/1B' in L.A's Offense
Story by Jacob Brockhoff • 15hr
  • Cooper Kupp has developed into one of the best receivers in the NFL during his time with the Los Angeles Rams.
  • The Rams also drafted Puka Nacua in 2023, and he had an excellent rookie season.
.......... Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua,..........Both of these players have proved now that they can produce at a high level, and it's tough to predict who will end up being better in 2024.

The truth is, it would be very hard to find a team with a better receiving duo than the Rams right now.

Kupp has missed some games with injuries over the past couple of seasons, but he's still managed to produce while he's on the field. ............

........Nacua was dominant in his rookie season, and was important during the time Kupp missed with injuries. Nacua finished just shy of 1,500 receiving yards, and brought in 105 receptions, with six touchdowns. He instantly became a contributor for the team, and finished second in offensive rookie of the year voting, while also being named a Second Team All-Pro.

Kupp and Nacua in 2023
Stat - Kupp - Nacua

Games - 12 - 17
Receptions - 59 - 105
Receiving Yards - 737 - 1,486
Yards per Reception - 12.5 - 14.2
Receiving TDs - 5 - 6
Receiving Yards per Game - 61.4 - 87.4

While Nacua was impressive in 2023, Grosbard did suggest that Nacua still has a little bit more to prove before being ranked above Kupp:
There's a difference between a guy going into his second year versus someone like Cooper who's, you know, had his triple crown season, Super Bowl MVP, all that, you know... It's a different level of someone who's been in the league for a while, knows how to take care of their body, versus someone who's getting their first real o***eason.

Grosbard does make some solid points here. Although Kupp has struggled to stay healthy over the past couple of seasons, his last full season was incredible. While Nacua showed a ton of promise in his rookie season, he's still got a bit to prove, hence Grosbard's 1A and 1B rankings.
Either way, having to decide which of your two elite receivers is the best sounds like a pretty good problem to have.

Unfortunately, the Chargers new OC is Greg Roman.
He is best known for his rushing offences,
In the last two years as OC with Baltimore it was 541 rush vs 491 pass and 526 rush vs 489 pass.
Maybe, as the quote states, there will be a lot of short passes but I'd prefer to see proof in the pre-season.

  • Quarterbacks are crucial in fantasy football, but their value varies by league type.
  • Drafting a QB in the early rounds is often a poor choice in PPR and standard format leagues, as quality RBs and WRs are more valuable and harder to find later in drafts.........etc.........

BUT: a big but for drafting in a Dynasty with a QB flex position,
I think it's OK to wait In one QB leagues but not necessarily in two-QB leagues.
