Like most years it will all depend on what rookies get named for round 1. Michalanney may be in a few teams if players like Wilmot/McKenna and alike are not named however if these players are named Michalanney will be in less sides as the players mentioned have more upside on scoring more points thus making money. Let the fun begin on Wednesday night when the first 2 teams are named fro the start of 2023 season. Good luck to everyone!!!

I don't really like Michalanney's job security even though he has apparently had a very strong pre season to date.

x - Butts - Doedee
Smith - Murray - Dawson

I'd imagine Parnell gets that spot and Milera apparently was set to go but didn't play the final pre season game due to a personal reason (still not back at training). Milera might not be good for round 1 as it's hard to know what's going on there but would put some heat on Michalanney's position instantly (Milera might be the sub possibly).

Worrell is the other who would be well ahead in the same position however he's had a few hammy issues this pre season, think I've read he's hurt it 2-3 times so they might be bit more conservative bringing him back (hurt it against Freo in the first trial game, not sure to what extent).

Not without a chance of playing but by no means a safe pick imo so it would be important for him to have a good first couple of games to buy some more games early.

That was me. Harsh it was, but I meant in reference to how lean and fast he was at the Bombers. Even one of the commentators said it, but they put it in a nice way, saying the Brisbane top made him look bigger...if that's a real thing, then Tipppa should never go to Brisbane.

I don't agree with the opposition excuse. Geelong were in 2nd gear and got smashed. That has to be equivalent to an average side in the real season. I do think Mckenna will get better over time, being out of the game for a few years. I also think he will score ok, but I don't see how he fits into the Brisbane side that's loaded with half backs. I'll probably pick him if named, but I can easily see him being dropped after a couple games based on what I've seen.
I don't think he was necessarily chubby, but I do agree he didn't have the same dash as at the Bombers. He might be a bit of a wait and see IRL, but Fagan has shown a tendency to stick with players and back them to work their way back into form/fitness so if he's picked in Rd 1 it's a great sign still.

Having trouble getting both a D/M and a F/M link in my midfield.

Currently have Mackenzie @ M8, with Phillips and Baker as 2 of my 3 bench spots. The 3rd spot can then either go to someone like Chesser / Cincotta (D/M), or to someone like Davey / McLean / Phillipou (F/M).

Alternative is to replace M3 (currently Kelly) with Dunkley, and re-introduce Coniglio to F1.

Thanks in advance for the thoughts.

Hey guys, I can only fit 2 of the following 3 "rookies" in. None of them are on field, but keen to know who you would drop;

McKenna | Phillips | Phillipou
Feel like I'm leaning towards fading Phillipou at the moment but there's not a heap of FWD rookie options that I feel comfortable with.

I agree - McKenna and Phillips from those 3, more certainty on their roles at this point for mine; assuming McKenna is selected and given a little time to gel with the lions players and plays.

One thing will Phillipou is that DPP may help early on field rookie choices

I've got $130k left over in my current team, and whilst I could have less (if Cowan plays over Cincotta and/or a playing $124k ruck shows), I'm really not sure whether it's worth spending. Granted, if the money is sitting there it's doing nothing, but on the flipside it's ready for a boost to early upgrade season without having to be 'unlocked' with a trade.
Nothing wrong with starting with cash in the bank if you're happy with your picks and structure. Gives you good flex for those adjustment trades. I'm pretty sure I started either 2013 or 2014 with $235k in the bank and that didn't harm my game at all

I'm not sure McKenna will be given time to gel. Brisbane IMO will be very aggressive this season in terms of working towards a premiership, they're right up there and I think they'll be playing in the GF. Whether McKenna is given time or not, it's a dangerous combination running 3 or 4 defenders this season with the potential to pump low scores like Jones and McKenna

You may very well be right, however I feel the Lions will also be keeping one eye on planning for September too - of course they could simply play McKenna in the reserves to gain fitness and form, however if he can still perform a role early without negatively impacting outcomes, I think he will play seniors. Just my thoughts tho.
Regarding rookie defenders pumping out low scores, I see that happening either in defence or in the forward line, and my thoughts are these 2 in particular are clearly more hardened through years of seniors footy, so I’d rather punt on them. Cole is another I put in the same boat, along with Allen, Rat and McLean fwd. Of these 6, I’ll probably take 3 I think.

From today's WCE training session :-

There was a large group (Waterman, Allen, Duggan, Shuey, LEdwards, Chesser, Petruccelle, Darling, BWilliams, Bazzo, Culley, Hurn and Jamieson) who came out a bit later as a group did some low intensity work then wandered off early. Two exceptions to that were Chesser and Petch who walked laps only.

I know early in the week but I would be surprised if Chesser gets named round 1 if walking laps only less than a week before round 1.

A lot of people are picking Chesser as a FDTP, but he's gotta be a vest risk, when he does play. I for one, am happy to wait for his bubble.

That's got to be a plan.

They must have done some high intensity stuff on the weekend behind closed doors. A quarter of the list doing extra sounds sports science loading.
