No, I paid $703k for Lairds consistency over a full season and not just one game……
Likely Laird score of 125-130 but if he gets injured this mitigates the risk…..
Is it worth risking for extra 17 points?
On the contrary, if he was selected for his consistency at his price then other than injury there should be next to no concern of a poor score and thus worst case for a full match could be 17 points in the other direction. Is there not a risk that every player stepping foot onto the field could be injured at any moment throughout the match, no matter if there is contact or not?

700k is a looooooot of consistency. If you're not going to use it the first time you need it, you have half an hour to save yourself a hundred k or so
Sorry Macca's.... My response was way too glib.

When you chose to go with both Oliver and Laird, you sacrificed a decent part of the rest of your starting squad. The benefit that you get from that is that each week, you can be pretty well confident that one of those 2 will come home with a 130+ for you as captain. It's where you're strategy is supposed to make up its ground for having the weaker bottom end.

This is where it gets difficult for you though because you have to demand more from those ultra-premiums each and every week for your strategy to pay off because most weeks, you will be losing out to the person that didn't have to field (rookie A)

Edit: And what Connois... Connassu... The guy said. I'll add that you paid up for Laird because he tends not to get injured. Now if he does, that's crumby luck and you will be on the end of that sort of thing from time to time. Chances are though that he won't get injured (touch wood, throw salt, etc)

hehe all good I’ve done this for enough years now, Laird deviated last year $24k so I’m comfortable in selecting him…
I take it you don’t have him in your team out of interest?

Thanks for the write ups Wogi, loving them. I dare you to do it for every game this season... :sneaky:

14/1212 - Bont. Pretty lame really. Cheezels on the bench was my only points missed so far though. Six prems and two rookies to come, I will be watching the GWS match with interest!
No chance! I like to do the first 2 rounds because they matter the most, after that they'll be few and far between! I'll probably be playing golf all weekend by round 6 if this start is anything to go by

Who would you give another week to bruhn or flanders? Need to bring sheezel in and one has to make way for him.
Bruhn role was much better, I think the Stewart injury and Parfitt coming on really hurt his role as the game went on, normally Parfitt wouldn't come on for a structural guy and it really threw them out, they were using Smith, Atkins and a few others at HB trying to cover and Bruhn kind of ended up the odd man out who floated out to the wing. Bruhn's limit is he's a pretty one dimensional player, especially for fantasy purposes, so if he's not in the role he's not great.

Flanders role looked similar to last year and I don't see it changing substantially. Rowell, Anderson, Miller and Swallow are just flat out better players and Dew is absolutely a coach under pressure so he's going to be playing to win games, almost at the expense of some of the younger guys at times.

Honestly though, I would be planning that both have to go.

Hmm.. Port seemed to have a pretty clear top 3. Rozee and JHF would lose a few CBA’s when Drew tags I’d say. Next 4 games are against Pies (Daicos maybe, but not a mid so doesn’t affect the CBA numbers for JHF/Rozee), Crows (tagged Laird last year I believe), Swans (Mills or Warner?) and the Dogs (could tag anyone).
The interesting aspect in that game was that Butters was the guy who went in and really shifted the dynamic up, when they had the 3 young guys Brisbane couldn't keep up, was actually kind of scary. Wouldn't be surprised if Butters gets more moving forward.

It doesn't really matter though as the one of the 4 that wasn't in there was playing as an additional midfielder anyway from the HF flank, Butters was just as involved as the others in the first half around the ground.

Stupid question ... why is the AFL draw not finalised after the bye rounds? I was looking at the draw on afl.com.au, and R16 onward are listed as "Date and Time to be confirmed".
They changed it a couple of years ago with COVID and they liked it so they've stuck with it, basically so they can mix and match the prime time games for how the teams are going.

agree there is that risk each time… this week I think it’s more the fact that I have already had two subbed players for a combined 25 points in defense…..

that’s the beauty of the game…everyone has a different way to play it and there is no right or wrong way….

He was in right up to the last week. Oliver was in his place before that. It's hard to fade the best players in the comp but having been disappointed in the past with starts from the likes of Gawn, Macrae and the injury affected Neale a few years back, I've gone for a more value based approach and avoided the big 700k guys. I even only picked Doc because I thought I was getting too tightarsed.

Bont and Macrae looked to have value and have so far justified my not picking Oliver. Sort of. THinking I can even do better than that now after the firt round and will have to rewatch a few games more closely as there might be an early punt or two worth taking. Let's see what Laird puts up.

What role did Butters play? More clearance and CP than Rozee.

Last season I had 5 VC scores in the 110s range, and I gambled on all of them.

117 - 153 (+36)
119 - 89 (-30)
115 - 99 (-16)
113 - 192 (-11)
111 - 156 (+45)

So 2 wins, 3 losses for an average of 4.8 points per C over the season.
