Funny how many people are scrambling to get Merrett in.

He's only played 1 game (134 vs Dees) you'd be happy with so far this season....
I think those who are considering Merrett this week aren't so much focusing on what he has scored this season to date but more so his recent scoring history in the latter part of the season.

Using this coming round specifically he has averaged as follows from 2020 - 2022;

2020 from round 10 averaged 123.9. Season average was 115.6
2021 from round 10 averaged 120.5. Season average was 115.0
2022 from round 10 averaged 116.5. Season average was 112.2

No guarantee that he does it again this season but his increased scoring rate in the latter part of the season has been the trend recently.

Juicy double ups against West Cost and North too. Realistically they probably only play 4 or 5 games against top 8 sides for the rest of the year.

I saw North supporters saying they'd like to see him play backline this week. Could help out his scoring potential.

Drury's also the cheapest of the options and has DPP which will be handy for shuffling players around during the byes. I just don't see how Sharp stays in the team and that early bye makes him less useful.
I wouldn't worry about R12 bye players, unless you're already on the heavy side. There aren't that many good R12 players that teams won't be able to field 21/22 players for a best 18 score.

Most will have the following premos out: See below (filtered out dead rookies etc)
Forward: Dunkley
Ruck: Marshall
Mid/Forward: Gulden
Def/Mid: one of Sinclair/Ryan or Steele/Neale/Brayshaw

That's only one per line, easily covered with a functional bench with people owning approximately one of Ashcroft, Willmot, Mckenna who can be culled anyway. I think R12 is going to be a very high scoring round for a bye round (bit of self perception bias as you can see I've only got 2 of those).

So yeah, I wouldn't write of sharp if you think his reasonable scoring keeps him in his team. Run him until R16 when you can pickup your last piece of the puzzle like say a DPP Walsh etc.

Cheers

Harry Rowston had a blinder in the VFL on the weekend - 19 clearances for the game & 13 in the last quarter alone  - which was a big reason for their comeback win. Expect a few changes to the Giants team after their 11 goal thrashing v Collingwood, Rowston must be a big chance of a recall now.

What's this 'functional bench' thing you speak of?

Oh, that would be a wonderful present coming into the byes.

Disclaimer - I am the only one PL who has him...:oops:

I already own Neale, Steele, Ashcroft, Wilmot and Johnson, all with the R12 bye in midfield. So doesn't make much sense for me personally to add another with Sharp. Ashcroft and Wilmot will probably be traded before their bye but still.

When I say "less useful" I just mean that typically, bringing in rookies who have the first bye at this time of the season isn't usually the best move because it's harder to trade them out during the bye rounds, It's best to have rookies who have their bye later on so you have more options to trade them to. With Sharp, come R13 (if he even lasts that long) he'll have already missed 1 price rise and you can't really trade him to anybody except other R12 bye players, which makes him a bit redundant. You would have to hold him for the entirety of the byes if you want max cash gen and again, I seriously doubt he lasts that long.

With Drury, if he stays in the team (considering how bad North are, it's a possibility), he'll be making money all throughout the byes and when his bye rolls around in R15 you can trade him to any R12, R13 or R14 bye players to give yourself an extra player.

Would be handy to get him back and to see some decent TOG to help with cover in the byes and some much needed cash gen.

North Melb.
Hopper, Callaghan, and Wilmot out this week.
2 upgrades and either Sharp or Drury depending on teams.

Sinclair comes into my side this week - glad I missed the 65 but think he's still a top 5-9 defender and is underpriced. Steele injury should mean more mid time too.

Then I'm tossing up Walsh vs. Butters.

Will be interested to see what Walsh' DPP numbers are like after the weekend.
Butters is probably still a bit of a POD and has put in a great month or so of football. 5 round average of 120.
Puts himself into the conversation for top 6 forwards again by end of year with half of their games at AO in the run home.

But if Walsh gets DPP as well then (and even if he doesn't) he's probably the better long term pick.

Anyone else got interest in Butters?
I like Butters but I’m fairly sure he’ll drop in price at some point with either a knock or a quiet game in a loss. I’m also concerned about Walsh’s injury risk but I think he’s better value at their current prices :)

Early trades are:

Chayce Jones, McKenna and Chandler
into
Walsh, D Cameron and Drury and 3k left over

My concerns with each are 1. Could chase some more value instead of Walsh but I have a few mid-500s players already in there, rather go with someone who's more consistent 2. If Gawn gets DPP, he probably outscores Cameron and is maybe less injury-prone? 3. No further explanation is needed

Fair bit of toing and froing (are they words?) Looking at BE's and preferred ins to make up for losing LDU and Hopper.

LDU and Chandler (high BE and could lose 29k) out
Gulden and Drury in, sort of have to go with Drury to fund a single trade of Hopper (wont lose cash this week) > Anderson next week

Don't have any boosts left but essentially
LDU > Gulden
Hopper > Anderson (if he goes over 153 then I'm screwed)
Chandler > Drury

I reckon that they're upgrades on the 2 outs, I try to make an injury work whenever possible but 2 in 1 week with low values makes it extremely difficult
