For those that started English, well done, massive jump in the pack

For those who bought in English last week or this week, has durability been factored into the equation? Starting injury/concussion prone players makes sense as you’re not burning 2 trades. For the record I’m not saying English is a bad trade but there must have been reasons for not bringing into the original team so what’s changed now?
For me its an aknowledgement it was a bad choice to leave him out of my starting team.

In terms of injury, one factor is the other rucks are not exactly durable. Even Witts, who is arguably the most durable of the current premo rucks has missed significant time with injury. For Timothy himself, his age gives a greater leeway for me in terms of injury recurrence. This is not a situation like with Elliot Yeo who is quite a bit older with very signficant injury history. There usually are quite a number of young players who do do soft tissue injuries during the pre-season where the load in terms of running is highest but then have no issues during the season. For example, Jordan Dawson did a calf in the 2022 preseason but then played a full regular season. Teams are very scientific these days in approaches to training with load management and I have no doubt after English missed a big number of games last year the Dogs have adapted his schedule this season. This is not to say he won't get injured, but that they will put in safeguards to avert that possibility.

Another very big factor was the disparity in scoring between Timothy and the player I had in previously in Shrek, and the flow on effect this week in terms of cash gain/loss for each player. We're likely talking about $100k difference between changing this week to next week. That's a huge amount of $ to lose with upgrade season approaching.

The biggest factor is Tim's scoring. He's going just under 140 average for 3 games in three very tough matchups. At this pace the distance between he and the next best ruck will be quite signficant even if Tim gets injured: if that happens owners will bank a huge amount of cash +points, get the next best option and likely still have $ leftover for an upgrade. That's a massive advantage over non-owners.

With 36 trades + boosts, the old school approach of "holding your premiums" is largely dead in the water if you want to compete for overall; hoping for "something to happen" is never a good situation to be in in Supercoach, and basically this is where non-owners are at with English right now.

Is it a ruined debut?

He’s playing. He will be on the field at some point.

It’s not like the injury sub last year where he might not get game time.
Hardly memorable though, is it?

In all likelihood he will be coming on in the middle or towards the end of the 3rd quarter.

Don't really think it's how any player would like to debut.

I think what bothers me the most is all the talk of them being "at AFL standard". That's a few coaches in a row that have used the same phrase now in that situation.

But... Isn't part of that standard being able to keep it up for four quarters?

In my case I started with big Max and going into this week English was the standout replacement. The moment I traded him in I stuck the VC on him, and expected to use it, which confirmed to me he was the right trade in.

Yep well aware that he’s prone to the odd niggle (and a concussion would be a trade-out in his case, as it would be 3-4 weeks , I’m hoping for him, and me!, that doesn’t happen). Niggles are the more likely and more tricky problem coz 1-2 weeks.

Which is why I want to bring Cameron into forwards, but the only viable path is via Callaghan. Not sure I’ll be able to afford it nxt week in a single trade, I can just do it now. Cameron beng named forward with the new fella being named in the ruck is putting me off. Plus losing Callaghan who I still like for a 75-80 average.

Not seeing a lot of prospective premos in the forward line. Gut says Cameron as #1 ruck is a premo fwd this year. Not worried about Cox I reckon the clear plan is 80/20 fwd for him.

New guy listed on fanfooty as 193cms. Is he a ruckman??

Trade Callaghan to Cameron? Y/N?

They are still getting a taste of it - I don't have any issue with a younger player being eased into the big time. Do you think Lachie Neale loses sleep over the fact his first few games were as a sub?

I think alot of the rage around this is a hangover from last year's injury sub system where the debutant may not get a game. I don't remember anyone having a problem with sub debutants in the original 2011-2015 sub era.

Like no-one seemed to have a problem with sub debutants in the original 2011-2015 sub era.
Some don’t like it, some don’t mind it.

Some had a problem with sub debutants back in the day, some didn’t.

If I was playing competitive sport for the first time, most likely with my family and friends in attendance, I know I would want to play from the beginning. But hey, that’s just me.

English V.C 139 x2
Baker E 95
Ashcroft 80
McKenna 57
Wilmott 69 Depending what happens with Chesser/Constable

Overall, happy with last night. Finally nailed a V.C even if it was accidental. Meant to use LDU but dozed off for a minute or two before the game and next thing i know its halfway through the first quarter.
Looks like it'll be hard to catch you in our PL match. Good start!

Yep, I am glad I kept him. That score of 5 drops off

I am. I got rid of the Doc for #35 this week. Ridley's BE is not as high as Docherty's

Very true. I have had Setterfield since Rd 1 as a POD and want people to stay away from him.
Your decision, but its a mistake to get rid of DOC. Ridley role will change from week to week, Granted Doc has had a slow start but its a long season and the cooler weather is on the way.

"AFL Journalism" has to be at all time low, all these nuffies all trying to outdo each other with their outrageous takes just to get clicks on stories.

IF the Hawks finish last they get the clear number 1 pick Harley Reid who dominated as an under age player last year
Yes "CARO" has produced some howelers in the last few days. My Goodness talk about being vindictive.

Agree both are must haves. Couldn't really go wrong with either first, however Darcy rucking alone this week and coming off a lower BE.

I'd also back Oliver to clear 117...downside risk is maybe 10 points, upside is 30+
117 less stress.

I got greedy RD1 and passed on Doc to go Laird, and we all know how that turned out.

Rowsus: 5/402 - VC burnt on Bont - Wilmott + Baker stuck on bench. 2 x Prem, 3 x Rookies.

Wife: 5/403 - VC burnt, 2 x Prems, 3 x Rookies. Only difference, she has Wilmot (69)t on the ground, I have Jones (68).

Laird C? v Port
2022 Rnd 23 - 133
2022 Rnd 3 - 93 - his first game of the season.
2021 Rnd 21 - 119
2021 Rnd 8 - 125
Not spectacular.
I've gone with Laird hoping for 120+. Other options I considered from my team T Green, N Daicos. I think S Darcy will score huge this round
